Default Ready for another Canoe/Camp trip with the wife...

As the summer starts to wind down the wife and I start talking about another camp trip on the lake this fall or winter. We really enjoy the 4 or 5 days without seeing, hearing or smelling another person. Here are a few photos from our Late November early December trip last year.

Looks like a great time except you put in a butt shot of the wrong person.

And what's wrong with my butt? I thought the gun belt accented it quite nicely.

Why yes it does, that gun belt is just gorgeous and makes your butt look fabulous.

You sir, are a very lucky man to have such a willing/trooper wife. I have a canoe and I enjoy paddling our local rivers. The New River, Yadkin, Dan , all of them are great. Un-fortunately I have to do them solo, my dear Miss Patti has a back injury which prevents her sitting in a canoe for prolonged periods. I wish she could accompany me , but instead she enjoys the photos I bring home.
I hope you will share this years adventure with us.
Good Luck, Jack

We like to go Kayaking and the padded adjustable backs on the seats are soooo much more comfortable than those darn canoe bench seats. My biggest problem is at 55 I need a comfortable bed and I have had seven or eight air beds that all got holes at the worst possible time. Lately I have been sleeping on a 2" thick foam pool float/mattress, and its not too bad but it takes up a lot of room and still doesn't have quite enough cushion.

Yes I could not have done any better on my choice for a wife. She is pretty tough and a gamer. However if you will look at how packed that canoe is I also know things will be much more enjoyable if I make her as comfortable as possible. She will stay out as long as I will. God blessed me with a gem.

Was this the trip where you had the most unfortunate accident that lost all your guns in an unknown but very deep part of the river/lake?

In the third picture looks like a Remington 760 pump hanging from that tree. Iron sights, too. Good choice of rifle. What caliber? Pity it got lost in the lake.

Actually that is a Sears model 200 12g. I got it at the second hand store my wife manages for 50 bucks. Fixed it for another 50 bucks and now it's the official canoe gun. I carry slugs, 00 buck and bird shot. Nothing I can't do with that. Here is a better pic of it from an earlier trip. Sadly it the Model 19-6 on the gun belt and the G26 in this pic were all lost in that horrible canoe accident.

Jbull, I found a really great looking boat and I believe I`ll buy one as soon as I can test it out. Google the Esquif Rangeley boat. It is available in 13 15 & 17 ft versions. The 17 ` looks like the perfect boat for you and your bride. I`d post a link, but I don`t know how.

You keep a fine camp, sir. Wondering about the circle rock with hubcap rings(?) along the fire. Hang on to the young lady also. Good you found a keeper.

Me and my buddies Pyro and fuzzy used to do a fair amount of winter backpacking in the West Virginia mountains.
We'd get the same thing. People'd want to go with us then start complaining about the cold. I'd tell them, "it's not all that cold, it's only 30 below." It was probably colder than that but that's as far down as my portable thermometer went.
Strange but then they'd always be too busy to go on the next trip.

Yup, when I was single I was always a "minimalistic" backpacker. No tent, I'd put my sleeping bag in a bivy bag and put it somewhere that looked reasonable soft and put a cover on my backpack.
Now with my wife, it's car (or truck) camping, huge tent, air mattress, sling chairs, cooler and bath houses.
I did introduce her to Ramen noodles and single serve packets of instant oatmeal.
I gotta give her credit though, she's not afraid to poop in the woods.
