Default Dad carried a 44

He was 6 foot 4, about 260. A loving husband and father. A Vietnam vet. A state trooper. A gun nut. Bought his first gun at 8 years old in 1960. A savage over and under 410/22. He carried a 4 inch 29 on duty. How many leo's really carried a 44 mag. Sadly he passed in 1988 at the age of 36 due to heart attack. He was kind, gentle, strong. He had a heart of gold. But he carried a 44. I still shoot that ole 44 every now and again. He sure left me a whole lota guns. Thompson 45 acp, high standard 12 ga auto,30-30 marlin, ruger 22 auto pistol, s&w 38 hammerless, that ole 410/22 was mine the day I was born, way too many to list em all. There are so many even a 22 derringer on a belt buckle. I am a gun nut too. Not a leo, just a gun nut that happens to carry a 44 too.

Not a thing wrong with your upbringing. Sounds like your Dad was a good one. Pass the good works along.

I have posted before and will repeat here again, it is the stories and the history behind the firearm that make them so special.

To have a family heirloom like yours is simply fantastic.

Pawncop--You just touched on one of the most important factors the anti-gun folks are clueless about. What the gun controllers don't realize is that for many their guns are a connection though time to beloved, long-gone family, better times, beautiful memories. I nearly cry every time I handle my dad's Winchester 21 or my grandfather's Fox Sterlingworth. They are haunted in a beautiful way, I touch them and I instantly see my dad or grandfather, long since gone over the decades. Probably just like the gentleman that originally posted here.

John
