Was up in the Soo about 4 1/2 years ago. Went to a little hole in the wall restaurant. Only three or four indoor seats but car hopped outside. It is called the West Pier. I can remember the taste of the burgers as they were the best I have ever ate. They close for the winter and dont know what time of year they shut down. When you are there check out the Soo locks visitor center the history is awesome. Whitefish point is also an awesome trip. And something to remember. Small history I was raised on a river and my Father worked for the Corps of Engineers. So the area to me was almost like being a small child again.

Cballman, thanks and jotted that down too. I like a good burger and carhop places are fun. I'm thinking maybe lunch at West Pier and dinner at Antlers when in the Soo.

fermerril I've lived in the Mohave desert and the UP and I agree.
Most people forget that Michigan is a two peninsula state with water on three sides, humidity can be in the high 90s during summer, even temps in the high 60s can be unpleasant with high humidity.
Mohave desert with temps over 100 are not bad because humidity is less than 10%.

Brian41:
I hope for a report on your trip after you are back across The Bridge.
(Or while in the U.P., eh?)

As mentioned, Clydes west of St Ignace, and also for the best smoked white fish dip head to Manly's. It looks like a green bay packers shed. Best white fish dip to grace a ritz cracker. If you make it to Paradise, just west of town on the north side of the road is a little restaurant called Brown fishhouse. This is the best and most fresh whitefish you can get. Be there exactly when they open for lunch or dinner because they fish in the morning and afternoon with their own boat. If they dont catch fish, they dont open. Crisp Point light house north of Tahquamenon Falls off county road 500 is a nice drive. Lake Superior Brewing company in grand Marais has great pizza and beer.
