Default Redwood Forest decorated with tp

My wife and I have been in the coastal redwood forest of Northern California for the last 10 days. These groves are magnificent! 330 feet plus in height surrounded with ferns, streams, elk, dear, and bear. Truely an American wonderland.
Unfortunately, we found wads of toilet paper behind every tree beside the road and some along the miles of trails. It just pisses me off to see these people can't carry a plastic bag to cart off their paper! My wife is as pissed off as I am!
There is a rest room at the entrance to the forest..... I just don't get it. Any thoughts?

Hey, that is the Humboldt nation for ya!

There was a class at HSU that dealt with how the introduction toilet paper has contributed to world deforestation, as well as oppression of.... non.....occidentals. I' glad it wasn't a requirement for the wildlife program.

There is a serious homeless problem there. They live everywhere. For such a groovy community there sure was and is a lot of litter everywhere.

Glad you got to visit such an awesome place!

Lived in Humboldt County for 30 years in a little community called McKinleyville. There was a sign outside of town that read, "Welcome to McKinleyville, where horses have the right of way."

I did of lot of packing with the pack string into the Marble Mountain Wilderness, Trinity Alps Wilderness, and into Redwood National Park during those thirty years.

Unfortunately, those individuals who claim they want to be "one with nature" and who proudly flaunt their bumper stickers that read, "Love Your Mother Earth," on the bumper of their smoke-belching VW vans are the ones who seem to be the biggest offenders.

I have often met backpackers on the trail and have offered to pack their garbage out for them. Still, many times at abandoned campsites, I've found plenty of empty freeze-dried food wrappers, empty butane canisters, and exposed piles of fecal material complete with toilet paper blowing in the wind.

Even cats and monkeys have enough sense to groom themselves, but many of these folks don't seem to share that same wisdom.

It's beautiful country...no doubt about it. Too bad it seems to be going downhill due to many self-proclaimed
"environmentalists."

These tissues are from female tourists, not aging hippies or renegade greenies! Just too lazy to pee in the provided restrooms....we stayed in a cabin in Trinidad. Lots of o,d hippies there.
