My first CCW was a S&W 457 45ACP. The last 15 years my CCWs have been Commander size 1911 45ACPs. I just bought my first 9mm a month ago. It's a S&W Shield 9mm. When my back is giving me a problem I can now carry the Shield, much lighter in weight.

Ruger
SP101
.357 Magnum
2.25" barrel
Stainless
This was my first full-time, legal carry weapon. I was living in Idaho at the time, it was 1993. I also had a Springfield Armory 1911 .45 ACP, but I found the little Ruger easier to carry all the time.
Looking back, I could kick myself. I traded a Safety Hammerless 4th Model, .38 S&W, 2" barrel, in pristine condition, along with a well used Security Six for the SP101! But I HAD to have it! If I only had a dollar for every bad trade I made in years past...
I wish I had known then what I know now, "Impatience is the breeding ground for bad deals!"

My first official legitimate carry weapon after Texas began to issue CHLs was my 3rd generation Glock 23.
It is a mid-size .40 S&W
the barrel is 4.02" long
The original finish is a matt black tennifer. I eventually had the slide bead blasted and polished.

My first CC gun was an old Beretta md 1934 .380 semi auto with
standard blue finish and 3 7/16" barrel. It wasn't mint by any stretch
of the imagination but was very reliable. It is long gone now but I
have several others that are in much better shape as well as a couple
of beaters. They are all very reliable.

SW1911 billboard, one of the early ones. Didn't get specifically for CCW, but then I got a MS VMII. Surprisingly comfortable carry and easy to conceal.

It was chosen for both name and caliber. When I used it for CC, it still had the original black rubber wrap around grips.

Colt Combat Commander in Nickle just like straight shooters.
I used it as my first duty weapon and carried it in an inside the waistband holster small of the back, when I had a small of the back that is , under my shirt.
I reloaded and shot it a lot.

A Charter Arms Bulldog with a 3" barrel in 44 special. Still have it and still carry it. Hard to beat, light, small, 5 big bullets and 5 more in a speed loader. Fits in a front pocket, a jacket pocket or a small inboard holster.
I now have a nice Taurus 431 in 44special, but it is quite a bit heavier and a 3" model 36-1, but still like the Bulldog best.

My first civilian carry weapon was also my first handgun purchase, a Ruger LCP. Had the slide & barrel Diamondkoted because, well, why not. It was reliable and easy to conceal but has been replaced by a compact 9mm, among others.

I've carried a number of different guns for one reason or another, but this one has probably been carried most often.

THE Combat Magnum, S&W 19 2 1/2" Blued Steel.
When my oldest daughter was about 15, she claimed it as her pistol, and picked out a set of ivory stocks for it. I retired it that day, and it became a safe queen for my princess. It was given to her "officially" on her 21st birthday, but it is still a safe queen. Great gun!

My first true EDC, that has been with me everyday since purchase, is my BG380. I tried larger pistols in the past but wound up sometimes saying "not today, too heavy and too much to hide". Same size as my wallet now and feel naked without it.

Interarms
Virginian Dragoon
.45 Colt
Single Action
7½-inch barrel
Blued
Believe me, it was like trying to conceal the Queen Mary, but it was the only handgun that I owned at the time besides a Ruger Single Six. I carried it in a shoulder holster under my coat. I listed a little to the left when I walked, but for some reason, I felt pretty darned comfortable just knowing it was there.
One of my sons has it now. He's 6'5" and 235 pounds. He doesn't carry it concealed, but it fits him a lot better than it fits me.

My very 1st actual carry gun was an NIB S&W Model 10, 2" .38 Spl. Rd Butt Blue. I had my cousin purchase it for me a month before I turned 21, as I was entering my Dept's Academy. A few months later I was 21, & had graduated from the academy & transferred that beautiful M-10 over to my name. Sadly though, about a year or so later AMT Back Up .380 acp appeated on the scene, & I just had to have one. I traded in my M-10 for the little .380, & it was 1 of the worst moves I ever made. That AMC was a true piece of sxxt !! BTW, it's a good thing I always save sales rcpt's of my old guns. About 20+ years after my swapping off that Model 10, my cousin called in in a panic. He stated that 2 ATF Agents visited him at this business & were asking about his old Model 10 ? His initial reply was, "What Model 10" ? As my cousin wasn't really a "gun person"l he couldn't even recall ever owning it. BUT, perhaps his "gun nut" cousin would recall something about it ?? Sure enough, I filled him in on the 20+ year old favor he did me, & gave him a copy of the trade in rcpt from the shop where I got rid of it. Boy, was he was a very happy camper ! Always save your old firearms rcpts, even old ones.

Big mistake! I hated shooting that thing and sold it within months of buying it. Darn thing gave me blisters and bleed every time I took it out to shoot.

My wife has had her "Saturday Night Special" since she was a teenager. It's a little Raven .25 auto. It's cute.

Ruger New Vaquero, 45colt, 4-5/8" barrel, stainless finish. Not an ideal CC piece for a number of reasons but was all I had for many years.

Full sized 1911 military Colt in a Vietnamese made shoulder holster. Relocated the Colt from a careless shave tail butter bar lt. that left it laying over the seatback of his jeep. When I left country I gave it to one of my buddies.

My first pistol that I carried was a blued Browning High Power
in .9mm with the standard 5" bbl.
It had fixed sights and the only thing I ever did to it was remove the mag. safety.
Like a fool I sold it. I've had several other HP'S but now the two I carry most are a S&W 642 .38 spec. or a CZ 75 LW Commander .9mm.

This was a tough decision to make, as far as answering the poll question. My first ccw gun was a S&W 2 1/2" Model 19. My decision was based on manufacturer, caliber, and barrel length together. Finish wasn't an issue for me. I guess the most important feature was the barrel length, because I bought it strictly for concealed carry......

As a young and poor police officer I could only afford one gun:
S&W 686 4" stoked with .357 mag silver tips that I carried on and off duty - I thought I could take on anything with 18 rounds, including werewolves!

My very first carry gun was a Glock 27. Unfortunately, the reason for this particular gun isn't in the poll; it was my only gun at that time.
I'm actually surprised that only two of us had a Glock as our first gun.
Well, I've wised up since then. I sold that gun and haven't looked back.

A G19 was my first handgun. I did end up using it as a primary CCW with the 642 as a BUG, but I bought it for learning/HD.
It's gone now though...

Taurus M605 .357 2" stainless revolver. It was perfect right from the box. Wish I still had it but I gave it to her when she left me. It was simple, reliable, never rusted, and with some .38's in it she should be just fine as long as she points in the right direction and pulls the trigger. I should buy another one. I carried it in a Bianchi IWB holster.
