Default My son's school

My son is in Kindergarten. Today we had parent teacher conference in his classroom. As we were talking with the teacher, I noticed a dry erase board with the letter "G" on it and some words that started with G. To my surprise, one of those words was "gun". I pointed it out to the teacher, and told her that it was refreshing to see someone who wasnt all paranoid about being PC. She said it was one of the words the kids shouted out when she asked for "G" words.

On Fox News, today, it was announced that a five-year-old drew a picture of what the teacher perceived to be of something resembling a gun. The teacher drew up an anti-suicide and anti-violence statement and forced the five-year-old to sign it.

Bet you live in the country. Where I live in Maine the first Saturday of deer season (no hunting on Sundays) is kids day, and every year there's at least 4 or 5 pics in the local weekly paper of boys and girls with their first deer. Something to be proud of.

Downeast and northern Maine - The way life should be.

Southern Maine? A liberal stronghold. Life sucks there.

First grade. My granddaughter brought home some homework. "Vowel sounds". Little pieces of words, like UG. She was supposed to make 8 words from each. I told her to just go down the alphabet. aug - that a word? No. bug - that a word? Yes. She did her 8 UGs, and the next vowel sound was UN.

BUN
FUN
GUN - no no, could not use that one. School policy said the word GUN could not be used, period. It was in the school handbook. My daughter showed it to me. Stupid.

What's the odds that it was your son that shouted out 'gun' as the example...?

Here I would bet the vast majority of kids have shot guns before they leave the 6th grade. You can get a hunting license at 12 and a CC permit at 18

I like my son's school. He's 5 and he's repeating pre-K which was our choice and he's doing very well. The teachers think highly of him and its so much more laid back being private school. During March they even hold a Sportsmens dinner with raffles, hunting displays etc. (and this is New York!) But you can see the creep of some of the things we don't want. The local public school just got a new superintendent and she was one of the architects for Common Core here in NY and I have heard local parents who have their kids there complaining about the new rules and stupidity coming out of it. The old saying is that elections have consequences, we are seeing it now with our country being transformed into who knows what. I thought it was funny, we never enrolled our son in public school, he never set foot in the place, but two weeks after school started, we got a call from the nurse there wondering why our son hadn't been to school. I started laughing and informed her he was not even enrolled in school there and with how competently they keep track of records and their kids, he wouldn't be gracing their presence anytime soon.

Good thing I don't have kids, cuz when they got to the UCK and IT words there would likely be a phone call or twelve.

Doesn't take a dirty mind to use the word that comes to mind with my first option, since that is the all purpose part of speech. Noun, verb, adjective, you name it.
