Default Arizona Must See- For Western History, Cowboys Buffs

In that other thread, we got going on Cochise and some other things in SE AZ.
There is one more place that you need to see when you go down that way.
That would be the Empire Ranch.
It's E of Tucson, W of Benson and South of I-10. It's a large old style Arizona ranch.
The main house is open and you can drive around on some of the ranch roads.
The thing that I had a problem with is the main house was for a long time the only house. It was added on to over and over. It contains the owners quarters, the managers quarters and the Cowboys bunkhouse.
And the kitchen is also there.
Attached to the rear of the house is a horse corral. Nothing like having 30 horses outside your bedroom window in AZ in July!
The reason for all this was of course fear of the Apaches. As you can read in the online write up, this ranch was remote and subject to a raid. But they were ready to defend themselves and having everybody in one building sure didn't hurt!
