So I walk into this shop in Ohio.......
No I don't believe it was the shop that kritter stops in at but still a good day
So I don't believe daylight has been seen in here for quite some time.
I ask the gentlemen behind the counter if he has any older S&W's sitting around...he say's nope
So I ask if he has any old grips laying around? He turns around and pulls a small plastic tote down and places it on the counter.
Most of what was in there were plastic grips but I did manage to find two S&W grips.
I placed both on the counter and ask "what's your best price on these since all they are doing is collecting dust"?
He points to the first set (K target) and said $20 and then pointed to the second set (N Magna black washer) and said $15.....I didn't even try to get a better deal...paid the man his $35.
The targets still had a small round sticker on the bottom #15...not sure if insp label or what.
Cleaned them up tonight.
Will make another visit next time to Ohio to see what else I might find
He did have quite a few Pachs in boxes priced at $11-$14 I believe but he said they were for Colts
Both no major damage or wear.

You might want to secure the border.

I'm sure my next trip in December I'll have to go through a check once I cross the Ohio River
Always love finding those small shops.

I had several LGS's in St. Louis that had magic dump boxes for old junk. I've found lots of treasure in them. Speed walk the guns and head for the cardboard boxes behind the counter.
For you newbies, ya gotta hold a straight poker face, sorta like you are buying junk just to help them out, or the price will magically go up.

I have a friend that owns two gun shops on Long Island NY. He always had boxes of stuff laying around and you really didn't know what you'd find in them. I'd ask to check the boxes out on occasion and although it's not S&W related found a 1903A4 stripped bolt and a model of 1917 bolt in cherry condition. Total cost was $50 bucks. When I had to fly back up there one time I stopped off at a friends shop down here and got a copy of his FFL. Went through a huge box of used S&W model 10's. Just thrown in there like matchsticks. One of the salesmen whom I've known for years asked why you fooling around with them old revolvers?. I told him the model 10's I'd seen for sale down here cost way too much and didn't look as good as the ones in this box. Cost plus shipping was $120 still have it today. Sometimes it pays to check out those old boxes. You never know what you are going to find. Frank

Most shops that have been around for a few years have boxes of "parts" and "misc". Always ask, and also at gun shows. I still use a shoulder holster for a Thompson Contender I found in the used holster box at one of our older gun stores, and I got a killer deal on a couple sets of stocks at a small (50 table) gun show.

Back before I joined this Forum and gained so much knowledge, I bought a S&W 625 because I just liked the gun.
I did not like the stock rubber grips, so I went to my LGS to find some wood. They had a like-new set of Football Targets labeled "N-Frame S&W ... $7" so I bought them.
To my dismay, I learned my S&W was a round butt and the stocks were for a square butt. They fit but did not look right.
So I returned them and got my $7 back.

I used to be 6'-4" tall. But junk box diving took care of that.
If, after having just met me, you had asked "what my best price was" the answer would certainly been a little different...
