I always thought a perfect gun for Law Enforcement would be the Smith M&P pistol with a thumb safety. Its very easy to train to flick the safety off during the draw and before the gun is on target so no time is lost. Also a lot of negligent discharges occur during reholstering so the safety is always on before the gun goes back in the holster. Massad Ayoob always liked tradition double action autos carried with the safety on in case of a gun grab. I've heard all the reasons not to have a manual safety....the best safety is between the ears, keep your booger hook off the trigger, blah, blah, blah. But a lot of things happen when your under duress, injured, tired, sick, bloody, distracted, depressed, rushed, etc. I've heard of cops, after firing shots with Sigs or Berettas forgetting to de-cock when they reholster and that's a little scary, and we have all heard of Glocks getting there trigger snagged on something during reholstering. Loose clothing, jacket draw strings, worn out or flawed holsters, limbs from vegetation, etc.
