My 1st car was a Dark Blue 1965 Chevrolet Impala 4 Door with a 283 engine and 2 speed automatic. It went everywhere even in untroden forest breaks. It showed 68,000 miles on it when I got it, though it was probably more...It lasted almost 100,000 miles more!

Owned lots of used cars and trucks, but only ever had 4 new trucks (never bought a new car). All 4 seemed to come at that stage in my life when I had more money than sense, and no family obligations.

The first new one was a 1989 Bronco II. Made the stupid mistake of trading in my like-new 1981 Jeep CJ7. One of the most expensive decisions I've ever made.

My first new ride was a 1981 Yamaha Seca 550. I thought it was fast, probably was for my 19 year old skill level. I used to pick up my girlfriend (now wife) on it.... her mother did not approve. I did marry the girl, so all was made good. I had to sell the Seca during the bad economic times in 1983, I did keep the girl though.....

Not my first vehicle, but my first new vehicle was a 1990 Ford Ranger extended cab with the flair side bed. 4.0 V6/5sp manual. All black. Great truck. I wanted one for years. Traded it on a PT Cruiser, which I also liked, but wish I had kept the truck.

1956 VW bug. It had 36 thundering HP, one more than the 1955 model because of the dual exhaust. I kept it for several years, drove it from El Paso to Boston, MA. Did my own maintenance on it, and finally sold it.

A fire engine red 1970 Chevy C10. Three on the tree & no options whatsoever. Dad & I later added AC which worked so-so. Then a second-hand AM radio. Then an FM converter.

Man miss that truck!

Dad's company car, which I got to use sometimes, was a 74 Olds Delta 88 with a 455 four-barrel carb. It's a wonder I survived HS. I was a popular guy on Friday nights. You could fit endless numbers of teenagers & cases of beer in that beast.

Sounds very much like my "first" was well. I think I had a '67, might have been a '66. Emerald green with white "racing stripes". Quadrajet carb, Hurst shifter, would outrun most 289 2-bbl Mustangs. Overhead cam, stright six but they had poor oiling system for the cam and it would wear flatr in 50 K miles. Ran like a turpentined cat though!

A mid seventies ('74?) Maverick LDO 2 door with a 302 (2bbl and detuned). LDO meant Luxury Decor Option. It was tricked out with genuine leather look-a-like vinyl seats, shag carpeting, fancy wheel covers and deluxe gas cap. Dark forest green metallic over a white vinyl. Tan interior. Loved it but made a huge mistake by not ordering A/C. I almost caught up to a guy in a '55 Chevy hot rod once.

First new vehicle was 1981 Ford cargo van (no windows except front). Short wheel base with 300 straight six and 4 on the floor. After putting on headers, got close to 30 mpg using overdrive and then speed limit of 55 mph.

1965 Pontiac GTO - fire engine red - thumpin big V8 - close ratio gears - heavy duty suspension - drove like a truck but would make your ears bleed accelerating in a straight line. Couldn't decide if GTO stood for "great thirsty ox" or "gas tires and oil."

Yet another reason I like this place... you guys with the classic muscle cars!

First new car was a 1991 Mazda MX-6. Not a great car, but reliable, and drove well. Second new car was a 2001 Audi TT (the 225hp version). Should have kept that one. Since then, CPO. The current one (2013 Audi RS5) has scratched the muscle car itch.

My first brand new car came after my divorce from my first wife.I treated myself to a 1987 IROC Camaro.Electric blue.IROC was suppose to mean Italian ride of choice.Found out it really meant instant ripped off car.broken into 11 times and stolen 3 times. It actually spent most of its life in the body shop getting insurance claims fixed.

Default Thanks for the memories...

My first car was a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible with a big block and a 2 speed automatic... got it 3 days before my 17th birthday in 1983... best man from my wedding is turning it into a resto-mod killer machine - he was the first "guest" in it when I got it... my first NEW car was a 1990 Mustang GT 5 speed... it was totaled by the son of my friend that got the car... my last NEW car is a 2013 BOSS 302... planning on being buried in it... I am proud that I have never owned a front wheel drive for me to drive...

I had 5 used cars before I bought my first new vehicle, a 1995 Dodge Dakota shortbed. It had a 2.5L 4cyl and a 5-speed manual. I had another used vehicle after that I drove for several years then I bought my latest car new. A 2012 Kia Sportage SX Turbo which is only driven on weekends and vacation. It has just over 18,000 miles in five years.

Sir,

I had a '73 Plymouth Duster. As I recall its Dodge counterpart was called the Demon. Is my memory working here? Not a big deal of course; they were essentially the same vehicle.

Andy

I have never had a new car, and most likely never will since the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis are out of production. I have lots of used cars, and I'm perfectly happy with them. The "newest" car I've ever bought, based on mileage, was a '85 Ford LTD Brougham in 2011. Only 48,000 original miles. The "newest" in terms of years was a 1994 Grand Marquis LS in 1999.

1972 wife, daughter and I going to New Orleans to a National Conference
of State Legislators. I bought a brand new Buick Le Sabre. Daughter
had a fairly new driver's license, so we had 3 drivers. What made the
trip memorable was going through El Paso, Texas on a Sunday morning.
It was over 110 degrees and our air conditioner quit. Stopped at a
few service stations but no habla.

1964 1/2 Mustang Coupe. 289 HiPo 271 HP, 4 speed, 3:89 rearend. Within a year it was at 300 HP and weighed 2,104 pounds on the ice house scales. It was an in town terror from stop light to stoplight. Today old bear's new Camry would outrun it. Ain't kiddin' either. And get 34 MPG.

Threads like this help remind me that a lot of you guys are older then dirt! I am not that far behind but it does make me feel like a youngster. My first new car was a 1987 Chevy Cavalier Z24, 5 speed, 2.8 liter V6, drove it for two years and traded it for my second new car a 1989 RS Camero with a 5 liter and T-Tops, good times

My first new one was a 1969 International Scout. $3400. Blue with a white hard top, V8, 3 speed, 4x4. It hauled Dad and I and my first mule deer back from Idaho to Ohio. Loved that vehicle.

My first ride was a wooden go-cart I made when I was in 6th grade. I can still see it in my mind's eye. Every nail, nut and bolt and the old cast iron 2hp engine that would barely move it on the discarded lawnmower wheels and the fan belt that would slip off the wrong size pulley every few yards It was a thrill beyond description for a young boy.

First actual car was my parent's 1967 VW bug that had dropped a valve and been sitting in the street for a year or so. They would not let me fix it until I tuned 16 and got a DL because I had so many tickets for driving without a DL on my motorcycles and the court making them appear with me to explain why I was out of control. Wild child till I got into my mid 20s... surprised I survived it. None of my friends did.

71 Nova Super sport, 350/4gear, Fireball Orange with black vinyl
top. $2200 out the door. Bought it right off the bus on way home
from RVN. Job I had required a lot of driving on expense account. So I got a new one every year. Except 1972, I got 2
because of a total. 1972 Z-28, 1972 Camero LT, 73 Firebird,
1974 Dodge Challenger, 1975 Blazer. Then the fun ended. Got
married and ended up with boring wheels from then on.

My first new vehicle was a 1974 Chevy 3/4 ton Camper Special pickup. I only bought it because I couldn't find a heavy-duty pickup that wasn't beat to death, and it was an August leftover bargain. My wife's first new vehicle is the 2002 Avalon she's still driving with 180,000 trouble-free miles on it. Another August bargain purchased way below invoice from a big Boston dealer.
