Dr. Oz, not our friend
The column of Dr. Oz and his cohort in today's paper was basically about how we should forget about ebola, be worried about the "gun epidemic" in our country. What trash.

The problem isn't with guns or owners like those who frequent this fine forum. The problem is with those who illegally possess and use and that fine segment of society can't be named for reasons well known to us. Not to far from where I write this is a little part of Jersey City that's known as Bullet Town. Maybe Dr. Oz can take the train over here and treat that epidemic in person. LOL

We don't need to worry about ebola or "the gun epidemic," but we do ned to worry about the crime epidemic and the society that refuses to punishes the law breakers.

What little I know of him, ive never taken seriously. He reminds me of Dr. Phil--whom I also cant stand. To me-they equal Jerry Springer--for having a real unscripted talk show--of the talk show circuit.

I've always want to take some one like him with his "superior" attitude and drop them off on the South Side of Chicago around midnight. I of course would offer them an option. They can try to walk out of there unarmed or if they prefer I'll give them a gun. I bet that attitude would disappear in a heartbeat!

His medical credentials are pretty solid. That being said, he has no more credibility, maybe less, on topics such as crime, gun control, or anything else than most members on this forum.
I'd no sooner ask him for advice on crime or gun control than I would who is going to win the Super Bowl.
He got his start as a guest on the Oprah show. Which tells me all I need to know about his credibility.

Speaking of celebrity "No Nothings" I'd like to go one on one with Bill O'Reilly. I'll never forget the totally inane statements he made after the Connecticut shooting that anyone could walk into a gun show and buy a machine gun or a bazooka. I emailed him and corrected this politely and I'm sure others did as well. I never received a reply nor did he ever correct these mistatements on his program. Unfortunately individuals of this type are insulated from the rest of us so they don't get taken down a peg or two as they richly deserve.

Dr. Oz was in front of Congress defending his credibility and the nonsense he was pushing on his program. He has no credibility, yet many people believe that celebrity "equals credibility" and well eat up anything he has to say. He was NEVER a friend to gun owners.

There is nothing that O'Reilly hates more than someone showing him to be wrong. As a result, he hates a lot of people.

I talked to a former co worker the other night. He was out for six weeks after a hip replacement. He said he wasn't quite ready to come back to work but daytime TV drove him so crazy he thought a bit of discomfort was worth it to get out of the house!

I agree that most of the TV experts are pretty bad, but the companies that sponsor these people are even worse. Writing to the actors is not going to get you anywhere, writing to their sponsors gets might get some attention.

I have not read the article on firearms by Dr.Oz but I have found his perspective on health issues to be much better then the "pill pushers" that most doctors are these days.
I can pick and chose who I listen to on any given subject and I know I will never agree 100% with any one person.

Like all of the rest of the "doctors" and medical shows on TV, one must take them with a very large dosage of salt. I have no doubt that Dr. Oz has credentials in his field, but it seems to me that he never met a camera he didn't like. IMHO he is little more than an over-glorified snake oil salesman, as his testimony before Congress on some sort of program he had was proven to be little more than a farce.
The only medical advice I considered credible on TV was that from Dr. Red Duke...he was for real.

It would be interesting to know how many "anti-gun" people own guns? Most of them consider themselves in the "elite class" instead of the "working class", so in their minds, if guns were abolished, prohibited, forbidden (choose you own word), it would not apply to them. It's just another example of certain people wanting to "control" others.

Many people will accept what a doctor says simply because, well, they are a doctor! However, if you think about it, not every doctor can claim to have graduated at the top of their class! Some had to have been average, and some had to have been bottom-feeders!

In terms of popular TV docs, Oz ranks below Marcus Welby, Dr. Who, Dr. Kildare, and Dr. Doolittle as far as credibility goes. The guy is a buffoon and self righteous charlatan.

Years ago my wife watched his show and Oz told how much mercury you ingested while eating tuna which I did everyday for lunch. So at my wife's insistence I had a the lab check for mercury while having my annual exam. The result was 0% mercury in my blood and it cost me an extra $175.00 for the lab to check for mercury. I was done with him from that point on. Snake Oil salesman.

Someone with a warped agenda making off the wall comments is all too common. It's too bad that there are so many brainless dolts who are willing to gobble up the spoon fed nonsense.

I think the same happened with Dr. Phil.
Between oprah, oz and phil, I won't waste my time listening to any of them but evidently some of the more enlightened ones do and likely follow their lead without question.
Sad and scary.

What do you want to bet that Dr. Oz lives in a gated community, with an armed guard manning the gate 24/7?

Bill O'Reilly can be irritating sometimes but--he was being fascious (SP?) when he said that. However,he would "spin" his way out of that like anyone else would.

I quit watching povich about 6 years ago. Only reason his show was on--was for noise while I messed aroud o the computer. It seems the only topic he does--is trying to find out who fathered whos kids...
