Ever see a chest of drawers with a hidden pistol compartment?
In October my wife and I bought a large cherry chest of drawers to replace my not as large cherry chest of drawers. This thing is 5' long and 4' high with 9 drawers of various sizes. Went to move the dresser a little and the front crown molding came loose in my hand. Behind the crown molding is two velvet lined drawers 18"x16" and 2" deep. My wife promptly placed her 6906 in the right side drawer staking her claim to one of the pistol drawers. Kind of a surprise actually but who can say what those crazy Amish will try.

perhaps not exactly hidden compartment but I have seen a wardrobe with a very shallow drawer mount up at the top which could easily be mistaken for just a piece of trim or part of the structure - it is deep enough for items such as watches or belt buckles or a wallet but also for most handguns - not sure a Desert Eagle would fit in there or anything with a scope on it - but most handguns as it is a couple inches deep with no handle or other obvious marking on it that makes it look like a drawer.

Chest of Drawers... So that's what they're called.
I always wondered why a piece of furnature was named Chester Drourz.

Kind of like Davenport or Chesterfield sofas.

Police Report Writing
We had a "country boy" that worked at our PD for about 20 years and would always get a little chuckle whenever we reviewed one of his reports. He would spell words just like he pronounced them. He assisted in a search warrant and found some narcotics "in the chester drawers". An accident report he wrote indicated that a truck drove through some "bobwire". He was a great guy so nobody would correct him.
We figured if the case ever went to trial the jury would know he wrote his own reports and wasn't "coached".

My sister's husband and step daughter spell phonetically when playing scrabble, drives my sister a bit crazy.

With dumb luck my neighbor was working at his grandfather's house before it was sold and for some reason decided to check behind a built-in cabinet and discovered a very nice Remington model 51 in .32ACP hidden behind some drawers. His grandfather had lived there for 40 years and they could only surmise that it had belonged to a former owner.

Walnutred, that's a lucky break, isn't it?
My mother had a combination chest of drawers and writing desk which had at least one secret compartment. I think my sister-in-law has it now.

I have yet to find a hidden compartment with a gun, but I have found a few hidden compartments with drugs. I wonder how many I didn't find.

They are a cool idea. "Smash and Grab" robbers are usually in a real hurry and only look in the obvious places.
1. Some furniture has large bed posts with drop boxes attached to the bottom of the decorative finial on the top of the bed post.
2. Some nightstands have sliding forward TOPS that move out to expose a velvet shelf.
3. The dressers may have large drawers that pull out as normal but ALSO have a hidden little pull out drawer at the very top of the big drawer, recessed inside about six inches where a crook would almost surely miss it.
4. AND, as mentioned, the classic 4 or 5 drawer "chest on chest" design sometimes has the mid-line moulding actually be a drawer. That's what it is in this case. As you can see, the drawer is just tall enough to hide a single stack or a J-frame.
As the old saying goes, "You can always crook a crook," or at least conceal something that he might miss.
BTW, my chest pictured is by Samuel Lawrence. They've made quite a few versions in the past. Don't know if they still do . . . since so much production is being done today by the Chinamen.

Thanks, that is how ours is set up though as I mentioned it is only a single chest and the sliding piece of trim in under the top. We bought this chest in the scratch and dent section of a furniture store while visiting Ohio Amish country.

We have a dresser where what appears to be a heavy molding at the top is really a lift up lid, revealing a large space about 4 inches deep and the full size of the furniture. Unfortunately to make use of this would mean never putting anything on top of the dresser, which is somewhat impractical. Plus it is the furniture used by my wife. My dresser has open shelves inside it, more an armoire than a dresser, in which I have bolted a GunVault deluxe. This gives me a relatively secure place (from grandchildren) which is reasonably accessible, and large enough for three loaded handguns (two different carry guns and one home defense gun).

Yes. Holds my 1911 nicely.
But it's easier to get to these:
