Default Full size SAA cap gun

This is a rather impressive toy, or should we call it a replica? There was a troll thread not too long back, about the 13 year old ordering a .45...This is one that a kid could

Made in Spain by a company called Kosler, it is all metal with what look to be walnut grips. Size and weight are dead on, feeling just as realistic as the Euro made .22LR clones.

Half cock and full cock are functional. So is the loading gate and the ejector. To load on tears off single plastic caps (you can cup up 8 shot rings) and these are placed on the nipples occupying the spot that a primer would fill on six included replica metal cartridges. These are then loaded in exactly as live rounds would be in an actual gun.

It can then be cocked and fired, with bang, spark and smoke.

Supposedly a John Wayne edition exists, but I have not seen one.

I got mine off Amazon, of all places. A google search turns up a few replica arms places selling them as well. I am honestly not sure if it is meant for children in Europe or sold to adults in countries with restrictive gun laws. The box is marked, in English only, "Single Action Fast Draw Army 45".

The gun itself is marked Single Action Army .45 on the left side of the bbl and has no other markings other than an easily removed "Made in Spain" sticker.

Maybe made for the 'spaghetti westerns' that were filmed primarily in Spain? Similar to the plastic prop guns used by Hollywood.
Maybe Clint would have touched one?

Would also make a good gun to practice your "gun spinning" without damaging the real thing.

Gohner, pronounced "gunner" apparently, also in Spain makes a Python in several bbl lengths, a 686, and I believe a Detective Special. These are mostly metal, save the grips, but are somewhat less realistic in size and weight. They take conventional 8 or 12 shot cap rings, but are of good quality usually. There used to be a guy in Poland who had a sign line selling them to the States.

In Europe these are sold in toy shops.

A few models are imported by Paris, the old drill rifle company, though not the Pythons and Smiths.

Perhaps 30 years ago as a boy I had a Spanish cap gun made by Coibel. It was a full size 1911 with working safety. You worked the slide to cock it.

Amazon shows them between ninety and one hundred dollars.
A bit rich for a cap gun.

Just the thing for your kid's next visit to the candy store. A little more realistic version of cops and robbers.

The price must fluctuate. I paid around eighty dollars. Twice what an Edison lever action toy cap rifle sells for locally, but adjusted for inflation likely not too far from the 30 dollar deluxe capguns of the 80s imported from Spain and Italy and sold, at the time, at Toys R Us.

In Wyoming, they sell equally realistic looking Western theme toy guns AT the candy store. Though like the cap guns sold from the 40s on, common sense plays a part. Apparently it is assumed in the EU that a such is still...common... That societal expectation remains in force in Wyoming, but other than theatrical or training use it may be less wise a purchase, or even forbidden by law, in some places like NYC or Los Angeles.

Obviously, the country survived many decades of realistic cap pistols apparently without significant problems. But the facts of life have possibly changed slightly, with the recent incident in Cleveland(?) involving a 12-year-old being a more or less predictable result both of an older child's misuse of a fake gun and an adult's reasonable belief that sometimes older children use real guns, which look about the same. The rare laws on orange muzzles are an attempt to address this changed reality. The removal of the tip gives a hint as to what might have been going on with this kid.

A death resulting from drawing a gun on a policeman is never completely wasted.
