SEC champ 4 at best, probably 5
Based on tonight's games and all the rhetoric of the BEST TEAMS OF THE MOMENT, here is the ranking as I see it!!!
1 - Florida State – Undefeated (respect), won conference beating #11 GA Tech
2 - Oregon – Won conference, played strong, beat #8 Arizona
3 - Ohio State – Won Conference and after a death on the team and with a THIRD string QB, by ALL measures man handled #13 Wisconsin
Tie 4-5 – Leaning Baylor
- Baylor – Beat TCU, won conference, and beat #9 K State
- Alabama - Struggled for 3 quarters with a weak #14 Mizzou who struggled with Arkansas, played weakest team of top 5
6 - TCU – Played unranked team and didn’t win conference outright, lost to Baylor

You should discuss a situation that would be far easier to work out and generate far less controversy like peace between the Arabs and Israel; Democrats or Republicans; or World Peace.

Completely agree with ya on #1 & #2 seedings.
However, I do believe Alabama will stay in the mix at #3, and Ohio State will slide into the #4 slot. This allows the committee to completely avoid both Big-12 "we don't need no stinking conference championship game" teams. Sorry about that, Bears and Toads......
My matchups:
#1 Florida State vs #4 Ohio State
#2 Oregon vs #3 Alabama
That makes it sort of a South vs North, and West vs East setup. In any event, it should be interesting when the announcement is made tomorrow.....

What's funny Fog is I can easily see 3 and 4 beating the higher ranked teams. I think in your matrix OH ST would beat FL ST and Bama will beat Oregon.
PS. I truly feel for Baylor and TCU too this year. I think an 8 team playoff incorporating the bowls would have been far better. As we saw this year parity is becoming the rule rather than the exception. Problem is the number of games these kid have to play, they are already at 13 games.

The SEC has stood head and shoulders above the other conferences in Championship scenarios. During the entire BUS era the SEC had far more appearances than any other conference. The SEC only lost two championship games when placed against the best of the rest. One of these games was to another SEC team. Tim Tebow single handedly embarrassed Ohio State. Unlike any other conference the SEC has proven what their champions are capable of when pitted against the best of the rest with a championship at stake. Its no accident that any discussion of college football championships begins and ends with the SEC. The SEC West top four teams are arguably the best teams in the country.

Alabama 4 or 5? Mizzou a weak team? You're kidding aren't you.
Why do all the lesser conferences hate the SEC so much?
Actually I know why.

Dog....I can't help but notice you neglected to include the Oakland Raiders in your rankings....probably a good call!
Kuddos to THE OS Buckeyes. They are my least favorite team, but they have gained my respect for overcoming adversity like few teams ever could. Of course I hope they loose their next game (my guess against the 'noles).

It's befuddling that now that we can have 4 teams playing for a National Championship instead of 2, there is still the same amount of controversy.
Let's give everyone a trophy.

Ok, I'll admit it, as an Ohio State Alum I am biased. However, I would really like to see that Florida State matchup and if OSU plays FSU as well as they played Wisconsin they will pound FSU into the ground.
Unfortunately as an OSU alum I am all too aware that Ohio State tends to get distracted by all the hooplah at a bowl game and just don't show up at the game ready to play. So, I won't be placing any bets on Ohio State, with an over 40 year history of not showing up prepared for a national title game I fear that Florida State will make them look like a high school team.

I can't completely disagree with your historical evaluation but as an alum and a native Buckeye, I'll point out that the attitudes have been changing and I think Urban Meyer is the man to make that a pattern of history The way they recovered from adversity this year is my only proof
OH, did I mention that was the only shutout EVER in a playoff game? There is no SEC in EVER

SEC champ #1 (doesn't matter for this conversation), but Miss. State #5.
1. Bama' - I just think they are the best team.
2. F.S.U. - I am a Gator, so I ain't happy about it but, they are 29-0 - defending National champs (I still think Bama was robbed in 66'), and the only team that is undefeated.
3. Oregon - 2nd best team in the nation.
4. Baylor - Beat two top 10 teams (including T.C.U.), only loss to W.V.U. on road, Conference Champ.

#1 Alabama
#2 Oregon
#3 Florida State
#4 Ohio State
You can say what you want about about TCU/Baylor belonging, but neither team played in and won a winner take all conference championship game, like the four above did.
It's a legitimate discussion to quibble about the order. I've watched Alabama all year, and they are a cut above. Oregon rules the West, and crushed a ranked team in their conference championship, as did Ohio State. The only reason I have Florida State at 3 is because they were undefeated. I think they are potentially the weakest of the four.

It's pretty easy to justify any number of scenarios for the final four. But ponder this: How many folks could have envisioned a few years ago that two relatively small, church based private schools like Baylor and TCU would ever even be talked about with all of those large state schools?

SEC - over rated?
Umm, what is it now? 7 of the last 10 NC have been from the SEC. I guess I can see where we get that over rated feeling.
I'm not a Meyer fan but I have to give it to him this year. He and his staff have done a great job getting OS ready to play under some extreme circumstances. The whuppin they put on Wisconsin last night after what had to be a tough week was impressive.
As much as I don't like JW if it was up to me Florida St. would be #1 just because they have not lost.
After #1 it don't really make much difference to me. Alabama will be in the top 4 and that's good enough for now. Win 2 games no matter who we play and we get to keep that over rated feeling.
Roll Tide!

Looks like the entitled SEC folks are waking from their dream, too bad they still believe it was real
The system is more messed up than ever, even worse than the BCS, and to me should be returned to the old Bowl and Poll system from 20 years ago. Gives everyone the entire off season to "discuss" things and enjoy. Now all they've done is kicked off the discussion 6 weeks early
OH, I notice you didn't say we wouldn't beat them, just not shut them out!

The entire SEC West is bowl eligible. Even after playing each other. What other division can say that?

I don't think Art Briles is helping Baylor's cause spouting off last night and all morning, plus calling out selection committee members by name on why Baylor should be in. But I come from the day of when you win say nothing, when you lose say even less.

I feel sorry for TCU. They area a very small, private school with great academics and all they did is beat the heck out of everybody they played except for Baylor, who is pretty darn good. A field goal at the end of the game on the road was their only loss. Ohio state played a weaker conference and got whooped at home in front of 110 thousand of their fans by a 6 loss V-tech team.

Nick Sabin had the best answer a couple years ago. Just let the SEC champion and the ACC champion play for the national title. One or the other wins it nine times out of every ten anyway.

It doesn't matter what four teams got in. This thread would still be here, only the people and school names would be different. I think they got it about right. As much as I would like a Texas team in it, I think the Tide would drag Baylor all over the field. I see Baylor kind of like Oregon, a gimmick offense that will be exposed by a good team with real defense and a running game.

We don't hate the SEC conference...it's the SEC fans we hate.
Art Briles really lost it...he called out everybody and their brother including Bowlsby for running an ad campaign for ONE TRUE CHAMPION then promptly naming co-champions. No love lost here for Bowlsby who was AD at both UNI and UI. He's a self-important stuffed shirt. He forced Tom Davis out as round ball coach and the program promptly went into a 10 yr. dive. He could have hired Bob Stoops as head coach but dithered and said he had to form a committee first. The Stoops clan said stuff it and went to OU.

While I agree with your post it was Chris Leak that started and played QB for Florida against OSU in 2006. Tebow did play some but not a lot as he was a freshman. He was the starting QB in the NC win over Oklahoma in 2008 though.

I'm still PO'd at that sack o' ..... Urban Meyer for doing FL the way he did. Health issues my foot. Not a word since he got the Ohio State offer. I don't care he wanted out of FL. Heck he needed to be since he burned thru all the talent and hadn't recruited anyone. The next few years were going to be nothing like the 2005-2008 teams regardless of who was head coach. He should have just been up front and honest about wanting to leave. The whole health issue was a load of malarkey. Foley just made it worse by hiring Muschump.

The SEC West top four teams are arguably the best teams in the country

Well the ONLY reason LSU lost to Notre Dame is that God stepped in. His momma's school you know

Never fear...Auburn is out buying some new players even as we chortle!
Man...Cardale and Ezekial really showed up didn't they?
Meanwhile in Iowa City, Kirk Ferentz is trying to explain why he can't find ONE good QB and ONE good RB???

Because 90% of the Hawk's allotted budget goes to paying Ferentz's exorbitant salary? The rest goes to Bail-Bonds for Hawkeye players. Nothing's left for recruiting.

Yes, a lot of reprints of the AP article which contained NO PICTURES.
Here's the local TV coverage, with footage......
Firefighters, Police Respond To Campus Celebrations After National Championship | WBNS-10TV Columbus, Ohio
And FYI, the Ohio River does not run through Columbus (except in SEC text books )

It borders both states. Last I checked.
Pretty sure the worst Auburn fans did was toilet paper the snot out of Toomers Corner.
Congrats on the win. The Championship was earned on the field, no doubt. Maybe the Big 10-12 can be represented in the next 8, too.
OH! I'm truly sorry for the lack of pictures. I forgot they were required for Big10 text books.

Yeah, but yours are nuts! Ha ha!
Auburn people didn't set fire to the TP.
Stupid kids driving on the field. Neither were in celebration, as are THE OSU fires.

What he said!
So if we look at the final rankings that just came out, and then go back to BEFORE the bowl games, give Florida State the benefit of the play (undefeated), the results pretty much agree with where this thread began!
