I am crushed I tell you, just crushed.
So tonight I go to one of the local fast food places here to pick up a to-go order and the young lady behind the counter is polite, professional, and then just crushes me, inadvertently I am sure, but does so just the same.
I am really not sure how long it will take me to recover, but I know it will be a while.
So you ask, what heinous act did she commit to put me in this deep funk?
She gives me the SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT without even asking!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I'll go sulk with a glass of wine now.
Couldn't even enjoy the sandwich.
Oh that's annoying.

I hear ya. I'm 49. About 7 or 8 years ago I was at a fast food restaurant. Clerk was a teenage girl. Gave me the total and said I got a discount. I asked what for. She said " for the older folks" .
I thought it was pretty cool.

I suggest you go buy something at every liquor store in town until someone "proofs" you. That should correct the disturbance in the force you're experiencing....Or just take the money and run!
Look at it this way....would you have rather gotten a discount because the bread and pastrami were really old??????

Similar deal few weeks back. Young lady checked me out at Kroger. "Do you need some help with these going to your truck?" Talk about wind leaving your sales. Pawncop, I feel your pain. We must be aging rapidly in the Houston area.

I wish that they WOULD give me the Senior Citizen discount without asking! I'm an old fart and there is no point in trying to deny it. Even my Grecian Formula 16 can't hide the years on this tired old fool.
Around here, you always have to ask and they always make you prove that you qualify for the Senior Citizen discount. They don't want any youngster 64 year olds trying to get away with that 10% off! Gotta be 65 or else!

I know I'm old but - dang...it is only 20 lbs!!!!
It seems to be the question that all checkout people ask today....Don't take it personal....

The other day I got the double whammy. I was walking into a convenience store. I saw a young lady heading for the same door. I was ahead of her and thought I would hold the door for her. She looked at me and sped up to the door. She then held the door open for me! I said thank you and she said "You are welcome, sir." When I finished and began to head back outside, a young man saw me and held the door open for me. I felt ancient and wasn't sure I had the strength to get back to my truck. I'm only 57!

Most of my friends want me to go to lunch with them, and pay---------that way they can get the senior discount too (which some are not "old enough" to qualify).

Well I turned 64 last October. I do NOT feel like a senior. As far as looking like one........ I guess I will need to re-evaluate that.
Dang, honesty is not for sissies.

There were 2 milestones in my life that made me realize I was getting older.
The first time a teenage girl called me "sir". I wasn't a youngster anymore. Age was 26.
Second was when I was 46. I was at a gun shot and an "Oh my god" mid 20's beauty, wear very few clothes and the ones she had on, she had outgrown years before. She was hauling around a WW II Ithica 37 trench gun. I actually looked past her and drooled on the gun. When I realized what I had done. I felt like shopping for a walker. Then again it was an Ithica trench gun.

Many people that said "Don't trust anyone over thirty" started eating crow 40 years ago and aren't full yet.

My son was driving to work one morning in South Beach when he was delayed at an intersection by a half dozen incredibly beautiful and scantily clad swimsuit models heading to the beach for a swim suit shoot. His first thought was that they needed to move faster so he could get to work. His second thought was that maybe he had been living there too long.
Another ( under appreciated ) thought from me was that maybe he was getting old.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You darn children have no appreciation for the finer things in life (I'm 58 yrs. old ) By the way, this happened to me twice last year when I was buying a bag of ice from a convenience store - though, in my defense, I was using a cane at the time. I was so impressed by the offers for help from the two different (female) sales clerks that I called the manager to let him know how much I appreciated their kindness, and he just blew me off. I then called the owner and told him, and he thanked me for the call, and said he would take care of both the sales clerks, AND the manager.
Regards,
Dave

You know your getting old when young people start holding the door open for you instead of slamming it in your face.

We used to have a gas station that was closed on Sunday's, the college girls used to have a car wash there to raise money for something, well anyway it always turned into a wet tee shirt contest, all the old guy's would get their car washed and drive around the block and get back in line again.

You should not be moaning about this.
Au contraire!
We so often see threads moaning about today's young people being stupid, unaware, and having no common sense that you should be glad you've encountered a bright, perceptive, observant one!

If some place wants to offer me a senior discount I take it. Thirty seconds after I leave they won't remember me and I save money.

Oh, it just keeps getting better. Wait until your at a restaurant and a 20 something young gal is waiting on you. She stares at you while taking your order and it's flattering. Until she states you remind her so much of her grandfather. To add insult to injury she mentions he died last year. Oh the Joy!!!!

Thats better than being christened an Old Fart--at the age of 37 like I was. All just because I was working a crossword puzzle sitting in my car outside ofmy apartment one decent Sunday afternoon.

I'm NOT a dirty old man! I'm a sexy senior citizen! I'm also too old to care about a senior discount. As for some young ... person calling me sir. I find that a too seldom used word of good manners.

I hear ya' friend.
I'm 54 now and i still can't get over being called
sir by the 20 somethings crowd.
To this day it still throws me for a loop.
I know it's a sign of respect but i just don't feel
like a sir. I'm just a regular guy who can still do
everything the young pups can. Just maybe not as
frequently or as fast....

I love it when a place offers a discount for the over 55 crowd. I qualify and I am happy to save any amount I can. I am finding that places that offer a discount for AARP will sometimes just offer a discount for a certain age. I do not particularly like the politics of the AARP and can't see joining.

At least they are respecting their elders, which is NOT a bad thing. I've seen some teenagers let the door slam on an old lady with a walker. I had to go over and help her with the door while they just walked away laughing. So much for respecting your elders!
