My 2nd mid-life crisis purchase ! What's yours ???
Hi All, Well, I had a second mid-life crisis even if I'm a little late for it. I know what my wife would do to me if I had an affair, and besides, if I could catch a younger woman I probably wouldn't know what to do with her !!! So, I've always wanted a custom chopper, and now I can actually afford one. Time to get in the wind !!! No regrets, that's my style !!! Go for it !!! The new "Shoobike" !!! What's your mid-life purchase or dream ??? Shoo

Yeah, she's cool with it since I still have my Victory Kingpin, she can ride on that anytime she wants. Funny thing is, I've had that bike for 2 years and she's never been on it. Now when I decided to buy the chopper she says to me,"Hey, there's no seat for me to ride on." So of course I told her she won't go with me anyway, so what's the big deal ? Well, being of the female persuasion, she says, "but I might want to go for a ride sometime", yeah, right. Women.....55 years and I still have no idea.... Shoo

Explain to her that it also means there is no place for the "Other Woman"
You'll never understand them so reverse the field.

As I’m a bit passed mid life, my Crisis is shown in my avatar picture. Plenty of room for 2 people so the wife normally rides shotgun. Things could be worse!

My midlife crisis is finding enough money to stay gone from home for the winter. So far it's worked out. I just don't look at the bank account for 3 months and eat beans the rest of the year.

I bought this when I turned 50 back in 2004. They had just changed the body style making it look like a Mustang again and these GTs were damn hard to find.
Now I'm 60, I just like driving through the Ford dealer's lot telling the salesmen, "it's paid for."

First I want to apologize to everyone in advance. I just bought a new Ram 1500 Sport, so when gas prices jump to $12 a gallon, you know whose fault it is.
I told myself that I needed it if I wanted to tow the Harleys down to the winter place, but truth be told I just always wanted a truck!

I never had time for a mid-life crisis, I was too busy working my butt off. But now that I am retired I can truly enjoy my Triumph Thunderbird when the weather cooperates. I'm certainly not rich, but I find that at my age now there is really very little that I want or need that I don't already have, other than better health and more energy! A small motorhome might be nice, to get away for part of the winter season, and maybe I will just go ahead and get one someday.

Hi guys, Looks like many of you have some very nice toys too ! Thanks for the comments on my chopper. It is in fact a 2003 Big Dog Chopper Model with a 107" S&S engine, I think they put out about 105 horsepower. Bought it in Virginia last Fall, it only has 2,800 miles on it ! I thought about owning a muscle car again but the prices on stuff nowadays are astronomical. I had a chance in '87 when I was leaving the Navy in Virginia to buy a mint 1970 Plymouth Superbird with a 440 and a 4-speed, orange with black vinyl top, and it was only $7500 !!! Now I wouldn't be able to touch one for $75,000+ !!! Anyway, nice to hear about all your cool stuff and pics are great ! Keep 'em coming !!! Shoo

This was just "next". I was asked if it was the Mid-Life Crisis purchase, but it just followed suit. Back in '87 I had a Firebird, then a GMC Jimmy in '91 (186,000). Bought a 2004 Monte Carlo in 2004. After 128,000 I bought this last February... The Monte had a 3.8L V-6 200HP. This has a 3. 6L V-6 323 HP
2014 S&W Blue Camaro RS/2LT
EDIT to say, NICE SHOOBIKE® !!!

Don't know much about the new Triumphs but I had a Tiger in 1970. I believe it only had about 38 hp but it only weighed 395 lbs. She could break 100 mph without much effort. It leaked buckets of oil, the rocker arm covers would vibrate loose and the headlights bulbs lasted about a week. We used to run 115/145 octane aviation fuel (for supercharged engines) and that perked them up a bit. Everyone ditched Triumphs when Honda introduced the 4 cyl 750. I suspect they are much better now.

Let see my last midlife crises was back in 2006 when my wife dragged me kicking and screaming all the way down to the Ford dealer to get yet another used car for my daughter (I think it was the 4th or 5th car for her in as many years) so her boy friend could wreck it. So she ended up with a very well used Ford Escort and I end up with a new Screaming yellow Mustang convertible. Anyway the boy friend wrecked the Escort in less then a year, and I have no idea how that Supper charger ended up on the Mustang.

My midlife crisis
Mine started when I was about 25, 25 years later my back wouldn't take the rough water anymore so the crisis is now gone.

Yeah those 4-cyl CB750s were quite the thing when they came out. I bought my Honda CB750 back in 1972 at the ripe old age of 19. The biggest thing I remember about it is doing 107mph over the Oakland Bay Bridge (lower deck) at ~2:30am after leaving the Hefner Playboy Club and heading back to my ship. Those were the days!
I had that 750 for about 9-years, as I recall. But as I mentioned above, I now ride Harleys.

Hack,
My first 4X4 was an ORANGE Jeep CJ5 soft top. I am truly impressed with your Jeep project. I'm surprised you have time to read this forum.

I've always wanted a mid-life crisis, but I haven't had one yet and I'm 66 years old, so it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.
I told my wife that if I ever went through a mid-life crisis, she'd be able to tell because I'd quit wearing Wrangler jeans, long-sleeved shirts, boots, and a Stetson.
Instead, I'd have my hair bleached and permed, wear Hawaiian shirts opened down to the sternum, gold chains around my neck, white polyester slacks, and hush puppies without socks.
Also, I'd sell my pickup and drive around instead in a sporty little powder-blue Corvette. Cuddled next to me would be a 21-year old bimbo, wearing pink lipstick, a very small top, which barely covers enormous…enhancements. Enhancements which compensate for what is in her head.
My wife just looked at me, shook her head sadly, and in her sweet little way politely told me that if that ever happened, she'd place her size 7 cowboy boot firmly upon my caboose!
So, like I said, doesn't look like I'll be having my mid-life crisis anytime in the near future.

My one and only midlife crisis purchase was a couple of dozen years ago when I bought a 1985 Z-28 with T-tops. I was about 44 then and that thing would fly. I never had another vehicle I enjoy driving as much as that Z-28. I had not had it a full year when some thief stole it while I was in a shopping center down in Houston. Oh well, probably saved my life. LOL
Oh wait, I don’t know if it would be called a midlife crisis purchase or not but I also bought a 1957 Chevy back 6 or 7 years ago. That was a terrible purchase and not so much fun. It needed far more repair and restoration than I was capable of giving it.
I sure would like to have that Z-28 again.

Boy, you guys sure do have some nice toys !!! I did buy the chopper but have had Harley's mostly in the past. Bought a real nice 2007 Road King Classic so the wife would be comfortable when riding. Had a big old soft touring seat on it, with a backrest for her, and footboards instead of passenger pegs. Man she loved riding on the back, all of about 15 minutes ! So I bought a nice touring bike for two people to ride around comfortably and ended up riding pretty much alone. I plan on carrying a stick with me or maybe concealed carry so I can commence to keeping all the young hot babes away from me and my chopper !!! I think they'll be flocking in now..... Shoo

Thanks ! Yep, I know. My wife thinks I'm nuts when I go out in the garage and sit on my bike like I'm riding it. I don't know how much longer I can live up here. I may have to bribe Sal and see if he can put me up for good in sunny Florida ! Hey Sal, nice yellow Vette ! Back around '81 I had a black '63 Roadster with the soft top and factory removable hard top. Although the '63 Corvette wasn't available with the big block mine had a 435 horsepower 427 from a '67 Vette. That was one fast car ! And I could even live with the 5 miles per gallon I got ! Shoo

I'm 68 and as yet haven't had my mid life crisis. But in the extremely event should happen would like to get a M113 armored personnel carrier. getting into it may be a problem and while it isn't anywhere fast I'd be the only old fool around with one. Would sure beat the rich guy's down the road hummer. Frank

Hack, The last Jeep I did frame off was a 76 CJ 5. The body looked like the Orange one. I found a cherry 54 M 38A1 body and put it on the frame. Up until 75 body and frame mounts were the same. In 76 they changed the frame. I had new frame mounts added, added the body and put on a artillery windshield I had found.
Ended up with a long front fendered OD M38 with a straight 6. Most folks never knew it wasn't legit. After it was done I gave it to my son.
Over the years I took 3 more down to the frame and restored them. Boy that was a long time ago.
Thanks for the PICs.

I embody crisis avoidance by maintaining flexibility in all things.
Hey, I'm middle aged if I live to be 98.
