Factual news reporting beliefs. Just reading in Stars & Stripes where Brian Williams is recanting a story about when he was shot down in a chopper in the middle east. Seems some soldiers got tired of the "stuff" that was untrue. Oh well NBC your bad . Could this be construed as stealing valor? Kinda maybe?

It's a case of a small mind wanting to become large. NBC should be ashamed of such rot.

Dick, just two days ago, on this very forum, I was told I was of small mind. I don't go around birds much anymore so maybe I'll be safe. Would hate to be labeled as that sort.

Default Phony!

I despise phony people. Williams is now on that list. The list includes Tiger Woods and all others who present themselves as who they want to be (at best) and lure others into admiration.

These are awful human beings.

Be safe.

Brian said he "misremembered". Over the years the story has been embelished. Reports I have read states his bird was an hour behind the one that took RPG fire.

Did I ever tell ya'll about when I was at Bull Run? Oh, NBC's contact email is out of service. I wanted to leave a comment. Heh,heh

It's not a lie if you convince yourself it's true.

I've been shot at enough that I never needed to lie about it.

I am here to tell you that one really knows when one's helicopter is struck
by a rocket propelled grenade.

At the very least, Mr. Williams ears would still be ringing.

Sadly, that type of behavior is systemic and now standard operating procedure in the network newsrooms.

I've all but given up on the network news. I don't expect much from what they air (and elect not to air), but I do insist on an anchor who is believable and credible. Mr. Williams has proven himself to be neither.

Perhaps there's a future for him in politics!

A bit off subject but isn't it odd that we can protect a helicopter from high tech Stinger-SA7 but the old low tech RGP is devastating.

When he comes on after local news--is why I immediately switch to CBS--who aint much better. If they are twing a certain line I dont agree with--TCM, Fox or some other--gets the nod.

This from the same news source that altered the Zimmerman 911 call to make him look racist and guilty. And faked the chevy pick-up gas tanks exploding several years ago.
Kind of looks like a pattern to me.

Same kind of thing that a now-long since fired CBS anchor whose name I refuse to say::did with his totally false""Bush Papers""stories. That twit was also the one and the same--who labeled our guys in Vietnam--as Baby Killers.

Live by one simple rule: Trust but verify. You simply can't believe anything or anyone anymore. As long as the people reporting have a political slant, either direction, the story will always be tilted in that direction. There are no more politically centered journalist. For that matter, there aren't too many journalist remaining. Now they are simply puppets or aggregators of information that accept anything they read as gospel.

Read his bio on Wikipedia. See who he was an intern for. I'm afraid to say so on this board. But it seems just the sort of background that NBC would like for their newsmen. Not that it doesn't suggest that he'd cover the news from a partisan viewpoint.

Williams has very few actual college hours, and no degree in Journalism. But he comes from the right background and has the looks for the job.

Today's news about Williams jogged my memory cells a bit.

About two weeks ago, and a few times since, during some TV shows a break in the show would bring none other than Mr Valor on, for what sounded like heart-felt commentary.

The message allowed as to how there were so many "good" things in the U. S. news that never got mentioned, that he wanted to end his nightly show with mention of one good bit of news. Bless his heart !

My thought then was, Oh hell, if we have got to be TOLD by one of America's most respected faces how good we have it, it must REALLY be bad !

I now believe he already knew he was about to be exposed for his Valor theft, and was already laying down his base of BS and fertilizer.

If you really want to see how bad his lie is, see if you can find his Letterman appearance where he tells the harrowing and terrible experience; with a straight face.

Okay, I'll be the first to admit, my memory isn't what it used to be. But, with that being said, of all the things I may "misremember," getting hit with an RPG while flying in a helicopter is not one of them.

Now, if I think back, didn't a certain First Lady "misremember" something about taking sniper fire while visiting Bosnia in 1996?

I guess when you're in the so-called spotlight, it might be easy to "step over the line" when it comes to telling the truth in order to look more spectacular in the eyes of the rest of us lower-class citizens.

I've never been in combat, but as I told the wife while we watched his TV show that I remember BOTH times I wrecked my motorcycle. First time in 2007, funny how my mind wont let go of the details.

Having been shot at by a bunch of people, I will say one thing. I pray to God that he ensures that they are all bad shots!!

My co-workers and I have spent a decade at least in war zones fixing computers, heck it was rare that we did not get shot at. We were remembering the stunts that we pulled in Iraq, lucky we survived.

The difference with Mr Williams is that a lie got told, and no one threw the BS flag when it occurred!! The snowball became an avalanche.

The military keeps track of what happens to helicopters. Another note, if one gets hit by a RPG, it normally does not survive (along with dead passengers).

While were on that line of thought. Anyone remember when Geraldo had is ""being shot at"" moment when in Iraq? It turned out that the inoming fire that he was supposedly getting--happened over one hundred miles away. Since then--Geraldo has been nothing but a never was-been.

You can bet that at least two people are glad that Williams got caught fabricating stories...Geraldo and Rather. Most people have short memories of those two idiots.

Difference is that Williams can always get a job with Jimmy Fallon slow jamming the news.

I was sitting at objective Rams, about 15 miles SW of Najef waiting for these guys when this happened. My Commander, and some other leadership folks were on the other bird when 099 got hit, and all were pretty happy that it was uneventful. (RPG failed to detonate, punctured the skin, and cleared the rotor system -tell me again, there is no God- LOL).

I am not amused with his storytelling....we had a boatload of shot up AH-64 Apaches waiting for those parts to continue on the attack.... 3rd ID was commencing to whooping the heck out of the few morons who were brave (stupid) enough to face them and preparing for An Najef, which was the worst resistance they faced, up till then.

Those are the guys who went there and did that! I was lucky enough to be a fobbit hanging in the TOC protected by these warriors, and Mr Williams was a rich reporter checking his "war" box..... what a clown....

More telling is the fact that NBC hasn't shown him the door in spectacular fashion. Those that protect liars are no better.

My homepage is MSNBC and they're reporting that Williams probably also lied about his coverage of Hurricane Katrina, dramatizing his role and the damage near his hotel.

They may be working their way up to getting rid of him...I hope.

I'm going to call my local NBC affiliate, Channel 5 in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and offer my thoughts. Of course, this is the station whose own reporter held up what I believe to have been a 91mm (closed) Swiss Army knife to scare viewers into thinking that it'd be legal on airliners if a proposal to allow smaller knives aboard planes had passed. The actual valid length for that company's knives would have been the smaller 73mm (closed) models like the Victorinox Executive. But the reporter seemingly wanted to mislead the public about what was being discussed by the TSA. Coverage at the station seemed to me to be slanted to cause public reaction to crush the proposal to allow those smaller knives. This was true of the studio anchors as well as the reporter at the airport.

Brian Williams is just one of probably many newsmen with a liberal agenda and a desire for self - aggrandizement. Their networks are as guilty as the reporters and anchors.

Anyone see the story from 2 or so weeks ago where he was asked about watching his daughter's very steamy sex scene in her TV show? His answer was just too open-minded for me. To me, any dad should say "That's nothing I want to see."

A lucky shot...and apparently luck is very important in using those things.

A close friend was a ballistics engineer for the US Army in his career. (He designed the sabot round the Abrams tank fires.) He tells the story of a soldier he met who was hit in the chest by an RPG in Iraq...but it didn't explode because it had not flown the minimum distance needed to arm.

Try as I might to understand how this could happen, I can't.

I was never in the military, but I had a number of close calls (several of which resulted in serious injuries) in my 30 year FD career. I can guarantee anyone who doesn't know it already that when you come close to losing your life, you remember that very, very clearly indeed...and there is no way you would ever get that confused with any other event.

I was never a Brian Williams fan, but I accepted him as basically honest and trustworthy...until now. With these revelations, I will never look at him the same way again.

I always thought the best news reporter was Walter Cronkite. That is who I grew up listening to. I haven't thought too highly of any of the rest since he went off the air.

Though I like Cronkite--he too--showed his true colors a few years before he died..At least when he reported--he had the class to keep his beliefs to himself. Same thing with Andy Rooney. Tom Brokaw--is rabid these days BUT--when he wants to--he can still present somehting fairly.

WHERE--are the Walter Wenchells and Ernie Pyles? of today?????.
