They were neat airplanes...I remember seeing them fly around Pax River NAS when I was little. It was really something to see one of these things fully loaded with all the ordnance they could carry...it made you wonder how they ever got off the ground.

My favorite close air support in 'Nam was provided by OV10 Bronco's..They would arm the aircraft to the "teeth"..

FYI - SOCOM is flying OV-10s again. They have named this variant Combat Dragon II. It is tricked out with the lastest avionics including a Scorpion HMD. They plan to deploy in the very near future.

Bit off subject but the BLM Alaska Fire Service had at least 1 OV10 used as a fire spotter and they made passes over a fire ahead of the retardant dumps to look for problems.

I was a "Back Seat" in an OV-10 squadron at that time but never made it to Wespac. The Bronco like the Mohawk was an aircraft that went far beyond its original design potential.

I remember that a Marine OV-10 got knocked down in the 1st Gulf War and the aircrew was rescued.

It sure didn't have the survivability of the Warthog though.

Until they reconfigured the "glow in the dark" cockpit of the OV-10, O-2s were used for night missions.
Talk about guts, strap yourself into a Briggs & Stratton leaf blower and zip between water buffalo horns in the dark.

The O-1, O-2, OV-1 and OV-10 pilots had to have a hole cut in the seat bottom to house their testicles.

On the flightlne, they were more relaxed, more lax on ceremony and treated us nematodes as regular dudes. Can't say that about most other pilots.

I salute you sirs.
