Thanks arjay, it's a kitchen countertop that a client wants to refinish on her own , she asked for some pointers I told her I didn't know but I do know where to ask :-)

if the house is closed up and the furnace and water heater have pilot lights,it could get interesting.

Lacquer thinner, I sell the stuff. Doesn't evaporate as fast as acetone and mineral spirits or alcohol take longer.
Alcohol is for drinking while waiting for the lacquer thinner to do it's stuff.

About 20 years or so ago the furniture company here in town was putting in a new vinyl floor for a customer. They had just finished & went outside to clean the glue they were using off their tools & hands. The house exploded into flames from the glue fumes that ignited when the furnace came on. Needless to say the homeowner was highly PO'ed when he got a call at work his house was on fire. The house was a total loss.

A similar thing happened when I worked as a military family housing manager. We routinely refinished hardwood floors by contract. The contractor had just finished and was closing the door on the way out when he heard a "woompf". He turned around and went back in to find scorch marks up 3 feet on all the walls and some of the cracks in the hardwood were on fire. Luckily there was no further damage and nobody was injured. It then turned very difficult to do this type of work during winter months if furnace and water heaters had to be shut down before work could proceed.
People don't realize how dangerous this could be.

Citrus Stripper if you have to strip. Tung oil isn't very hard and you might be better off just sanding it. What are you going to refinish with??

Try the citrus stripper first. No flame concerns.
