Guns you've sold and shouldn't have
I let a 6 inch 586 go, back to the guy who sold it to me. One side was in horrific shape, as far as finish went, and the other was immaculate. Probably spent 20 years under the seat of some old man's truck. That thing shot like I would never have believed.
My 4 inch Model 28. I miss it almost daily. The only revolver more important to me is a 5 inch 27 that will go with me to the end.
An unusual one for this forum...a 22-4 Thunder Ranch. When I had it, I didn't know why I kept it. Now that it's gone, I know exactly why I kept it. There are few better combat revolvers around.
The last doesn't really belong here, but it's a Springfield Operator 1911. It was an ugly duckling when I bought it, I carried it for years, and made a handsome sum when it left me, but I still miss it greatly. All Ed Brown internals, and with my TLR-1 out front, it recoiled almost like a .22. Back when .45 was less than $15 a hundred at Wal-Mart, I shot a couple hundred rounds a week and, as one friend put it, I was a jedi with this weapon. I shall miss it greatly.

Too many for a complete list.
Colt Anaconda
M15-3 2" bbl.
M66-3 2-1/2" bbl.
M629-5 3" bbl.
But, I still have quite a few that won't be going anywhere for quite awhile. It is funny how you think you can do without, until you are without.

Oh what a sad tale this in going to be.
First was a CZ85 I bought when I was stationed in Germany. No import marks, shot like a dream, not available in the US at the time and when I came back stateside I was going back to my .45. Sold it and regretted it ever since.
Bought a couple of Marlin 1885 rifles at an auction in Northern Colorado. One was a custom model in 40-65 or 40-60 don't remember which in excellent condition and the other was a 45-70 in almost perfect condition. The gun rags I used to believe were a fountain of knowledge said Marlins didn't have much collector interest and wouldn't be going up much in price. I was PCSing again and decided to sell them instead of packing them and moving them. I don't want to even think what they would be worth now.

I had two that I now regret for selling.
1. WW2 issued .303 British Enfield, my very first purchased rifle?, paid $50. For it!
2. Colt Lawman Mk III 4" , it belonged to a friend of mine and it was his Police service revolver. When he gave up the force he get sold me the revolver for $130.
Should have never sold them but I needed the money at the time.

I've only sold three out of all the guns I've ever owned. & I only regret one of them. That would be a Browning 380, the Baby Browning. I still miss it after some twenty years. I didn't know what I was doing, & I'm sure that I didn't get anywhere near what it was worth. Please excuse me, I'm going to go kick myself for awhile...

I once had a Colt Police Positive w/ a 4"bbl. in .22 Long Rifle. that I bought off an online auction for a song. It didn't function properly and the finish was gone. I had a gunsmith take it apart and reassemble it. It worked great after that.
I traded it away only to find out later that this was special order configuration and was never in the Colt catalog! Only 3 or 4 others are known to exist and were all special presentation guns from Colt. When I tried to contact the guy I traded with a few years later , I found out he had passed away.

Man, you know how to start a thread. We're a gun family and we have owned a many of good guns. There's not a day go by someone in the family brings up about an old pistol or revolver I use to have. I was a young man raising a family and the guns was about the only thing we had that was worth anything. It seemed like there never was enough money. But the story I enjoy telling the most was about a little ol' Colt Police Positive chambered in 38 S&W with 4" barrel. I was in junior high school and my mom & dad worked public work and me and my buddy would sneak dad's ol' 1912 Colt out into the garage and shoot it in a bullet trap before we caught the bus to go to school. I was buying shells at the gun shop for a dime apiece to replace dad's ammo supply. Fast forward a few years my mother past and dad remarried. I married got out on my own and was raising a family. About 15 years ago my dad past away and step mother saw to it that I didn't get anything. Funny thing was only thing he had that I really wanted was his pistol. I owned better pistols so it wasn't like it was a collector piece. Fast forward to two years ago I was in a local gun store buying leather pants belts. I wear for a pants belt what most people wear for a holster belt. As I was going through the belt inventory, laying out over the used gun counter what belts I was picking out, set dad's ol' Colt. It's been well over 45 years since I have seen that gun, but I knew ever wear mark and scratch on that gun. Needless to say I brought it home, along with four new belts. I carry this gun everyday in my briefcase or in my inside vest pocket. I have other guns that are more suitable for packing, but this one is special and one that I very much wanted. I think this summer I'm going to put a set of elk grips on it and have a friend make me a new holster for it.

The only one I have sold that I regret was my STI Lawman. I bought it knowing I couldn't afford it at the time. Youth is a pain sometimes. I know the gun has a good home I see it everytime we go to Oklahoma to visit family.

Only one: a 4th Model Safety Hammerless, .38 S&W, blued, 2" barrel, in pristine condition. It was my first S&W, and it didn't get the respect it deserved. It was my fishing tackle bag gun when I lived in Idaho, and I traded that and a Security Six for a brand new SP101 that I couldn't live without.
Most of the others I foolishly traded away back then have been replaced with nicer specimens, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for another "lemon squeezer" like the one I had, at least not at a price I could live with!

Several years ago I sold a very nice 30-40 krag carbine, one of the nicest I have ever seen. That one I really miss. The other would be a 4" Colt Python, should have gotten more money for it.
There's also the two I should have bought, let them walk right by the table.
.32 M&P mint in its number gold box.
A very early pre model 19 NIB.
These guns keep me up at night. LoL

My S&W M1917 that I bought and traded while I was in the Army in the '80s.
Even though I think I traded it to get my 4" 29-2, I wish I still had both.
Try to get an M1917 for a sane price NOW.

There have been several.................
Dad gave me 2 1903 Springfields. Kept one 30.06, sporterized it, bought a stock from Herters, shot a cow moose with it. Had the other rebarreled 25.06, Bishop mannlicher stock.............a real tack driver. Then, read an article about the brittleness of the receiver with the serial numbers I had. Sold them both and bought a Ruger #1 22-250. I had a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in those rifles back in the day.
Browning HP
Browning BAR grade ll
( a regret for my father..........he sold his prized K22 to pay for my first shotgun, Lefever 20ga, side-by-side, which I still have)
Reading these posts makes me not want to sell a gun...............EVER!

Have a 1 inch high stack of 3x5 cards and each of them lists a gun I have owned, enjoyed and sold as a private party over the course of 25 years or so.
Regrets? Not really as I'm content where I'm at now.

Only one, a Ruger Security Six with the 2 3/4" barrel. It looked out of place next to my S&Ws.

Due to a desperate financial situation in the late 90"s I had to sell an FN FAL & a Dan Wesson Model 40, 8" Vent Heavy .44 Magnum. I don't care about the FAL, it was a jam-o-matic but the Dan Wesson was the most accurate handgun I ever fired for the exception of my T/C Contenders.

After thinking about this for a while I can say that I have not one regret in any sales. If anything I regret not holding out for more money.
Each was bought as a test to see if I would like it or for some reason I had at the time to buy them.
In the last few years I've sold...
1006
1026
Glock 20
Glock 17
H&R Garand
M&P 9/357sig/45
German Sig P220
German Sig 226
4506 x 2
Citadel 1911
5946 x 3
Enfield x 2
Browning hi power
FAL
Saiga 308
Saiga 12
Makarov x 2
Polish P64
Glock 23
Remington 870
Kahr CW9
Walther PPS
Mauser rifle x 2
Winchester 30-30
MAS 49/56
Tokarev x 2
Daniel Defense AR
Century Golani
PSL
And probably more that I can't think of at the moment. This is all since 2008 or so. Some of the sales were to purchase other guns on the list.
I have a few that I'll never sell because they fit exactly the role I wanted. Problem is that a lot of these you can't rent to try out first. Others like the MAS, Mauser and Enfields were fun to shoot and feel the history behind. Get an idea of what it was like back then, but then that's done and it kinda becomes been there done that. ...next. while others like the 1006 and 1026 were bought to try out a new caliber. Both were sold when I got the Glock 20. Since neither did anything better than the Glock. Eventually the Glock was sold too because stocking 10mm was proving too expensive. I guess I view guns like cars or computers or whatever. Just stuff that one has a need for but when that need is gone or changes the stuff is no longer needed
In fact I'm going to have 2 on the chopping block shortly and possibly as many as 5

The first pistol I purchased was a S&W 915. I traded it (with $150) on a Browning HP Practical. A good deal for me, especially with today's prices, but little did I know, The 3rd Gen bug would catch me later on in life. I actually prefer the 915 to the 5906 that I currently own.

The only gun I sort of regret selling is my first CCW which was a 2" RB M10 circa 1979 that I purchased NIB at Greenblatt's Gun Store. A few years later I wanted a lighter and smaller CCW which was a M60 and at the time I wanted the money from the M10 to buy the new one.
The other guns I've sold over the years I have no regret about.

I completely forgot my 4" Colt Official Police that I also had when I was in the Army.
It was no big deal trading it at the time.
After all, it wasn't like Colt was going to stop making revolvers...

I might start crying soon.
The list is getting longer
1 A few 2.5 686
2 A 629 ND 2.5" RB, ported, fire breathing Dragon.
3 A pre-Woodsman circa 1926 (and about to do the same with two more)
Heading to the WTS Forum I think.
4 A 640 ND 3" with box and papers.
5 A Glock 19
Only kidding.
6 A 625-8 4" JM
7 A Security Six Snubnose
To be honest I sold all these guns to make room in the safe, because there were duplicates, non-Smiths, to buy nicer Smiths or I was plum crazy that day.

My list is probably as long as Laketime's, I regret selling every one, hard times sometimes can't be helped. Never say never, but I'm in a position now where the the world is going to have to shift on its axis or some such before I'll sell again.

The worst part is I am still doing it.
But then bills need to be paid
Too many to think about.
I did get My HK91 back [which I got NIB in 1984] after 17 years being gone.
Trade and no exchanged. I was lucky.

TNTC. Too numerous to count. I finally matured about 2004 and severely reduced my trading and selling. I so wish I had done that earlier.

I sold a Ruger GP-100 357 Magnum with a 6" Barrel and I wish I still had it.
It had to be the most accurate Revolver I ever had,I used to embarrass My Brother in Law when I would hit the same Target He was shooting at with His AR-15. He is one of those People that everything He has is better than Yours so it is very satisfying to out shoot Him like that.

I will never have any regrets. I will never sell or trade one of my guns. I just can't let go of one after I get it.
So the gun safe just keeps filling.
I could never be a trader ...

I have only sold one gun in my life so far. I wish I still had it. It was a used 66 with a 4 inch barrel. It went to a guy that I worked with. I ended up buying a Colt Defender off of him. I bet he wishes he still had it too.

Mine are already trying to take dibs. They talk about them like I am not even in the room and am already boxed and crated. LOL

I sold these abut 50 years ago and I still wake up in a cold sweat just thinking about selling them:
Mauser Zig-Zag revolver, 10.6mm, almost new condition.
Charola y Anitua automatic, 5mm.
Mannlicher Model 1903 automatic in 7.63mm caliber, not the pistol, but the carbine version.

Lovely pre-B CZ75. Glock 19 and 22, especially the 19. Ruger GP-100. Smith 469. My first Marlin 39A. Remington 700ADL in .243. Browning A-5 Light Twenty. Stevens 311 side-by-side 20 gauge that I took tons of game with.
The last three were sold when I was drinking--always unwise.

OP - If it makes you feel any better, you sold a BHP a few years back that I kick myself for not buying.

Sold
I envy you guys that can list your regrets. It depresses me just
to think of what I've sold. 50 years of wheeling and dealing puts
a lot of good stuff in my wake. I got into it just as every one was
trading the"old" stuff in on the new magnums. Today's collector
Stuff was just old guns then.
Hind sight is 20/20.
