The Equalizer...(not a spoiler)
Denzel Washington has just raised the bar for "get even" type movies. I've always enjoyed his performances he is one of the best actors in the business today. But he really outdid himself in this one. The action is crazy good and he has mastered a look on his face that would scare anyone. It's a good story if a bit of a cleche but Washington's performance is spell binding.
If you like a movie where the good guys win and justice prevails you need to see The Equalizer. I'm going to watch it again at least once more before I send it back to netflix.

I always did like him.I wish he would do a movie with Cuba Gooding Jr. I think those two would make a great acting team.

Washington is willing to play any kind of character, good, bad, or ambiguous. His performance in "Glory" was superb; and as one who remembers Malcolm X, I was amazed by how he became Malcolm.
I also like the fact that he's a devoted family man, married to the same woman for many years, and generally a good, humble guy.
I may have to see "The Equalizer".

If I was asked to pick a favorite Denzel movie, I don't think I could. I enjoy his work and as Mike said, he's a good man.

I like a lot of his flicks.
Ricochet
The Pelican Brief *
Crimson Tide *
Philadelphia
Remember the Titans *
The Bone Collector *
The Siege
John Q *
The Book of Eli
American Gangster
Deja Vu
Training Day
Safe House
Unstoppable
Man On Fire *
And The Equalizer * which I saw at the theater.
The ones with the * are favorites. I probably missed a couple.

The Equalizer is an excellent movie and I own it on dvd, but if you think Denzel "upped" the get-even movie you REALLY need to see John Wick, staring Keneau Reeves!!! Man-0-man!

Malcolm X was truly a first rate job. Another biopic that amazed me was Ali. Will Smith doesn't look anything like Ali, but watching the movie he didn't look like anybody BUT Ali. Another one was "Walk the Line". I kept forgetting that Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon WEREN'T June Carter and Johnny Cash. It could have been them. We have some pretty amazing actors and directors around nowadays. The ones that don't rely on CGI and explosions anyway.

Decent, funny at times buddy flick was "2 Guns" with Denzel balancing out Marky Mark Walberg. Standard stuff but the movie was nicely cast.

If you want to see a truly amazing job of portraying someone famous, look at Jamie Foxx's Ray Charles in "Ray". It was astonishing. If he had overplayed it the slightest bit it would have failed, but he captured Charles brilliantly. The singing was Ray's voice overdubbed; but Foxx, a classically-trained pianist, did all the piano work himself.
The woman who played Ray's mother was wonderful, an unforgettable short role.
