C&R shipping handguns
I have a C&R license and from what I'm reading in the rules of C&R licensees, I can ship a handgun that is on the C&R list out of state to have it serviced to a class 1 FFL to have it serviced and he can ship it back to me via the USPS. Am I interpreting this correctly? Thanks.

IF the Class 1 FFL agrees to, some will not accept C & R licenses.
That is my understanding, your mileage may vary

The answer is yes. A 03 C&R can legally ship a C&R firearm to a 01 FFL in or out of state, and the reverse is true.
I won't deal with 01 FFL's who catagorically refuse to deal with 03 C&R's. There are plenty who will.

Yes, but, you can not ship it to him via the USPS on a C&R. He can ship it back to you via the USPS on his 01 FFL. You are limited to the usual UPS / FED EX methods with a handgun.

And as a C&R FFL,you are required by UPS or Fed Ex to ship next day air and pay a very tidy sum for the shipping.

If you shipped other than Next Day, are you violating ATF regulations or just UPS/FedEx policy?
I realize that if you did that and the gun went missing en route, you'd have no grounds for a claim.

The next day air requirement has nothing to do with ATF laws or regulations. Fedex and UPS have imposed the rule to reduce thievery by their own employees. Apparently, they simply are unable to prevent theft from their employees OR, they can use the excuse to force firearms shippers to pay premium rates. If we shipped our gun FedEx or UPS ground, no law is broken but the item would be uninsured.
Likewise, the USPS refuses to accept a C&R license as qualified to ship handguns. There is no law preventing them from allowing C&Rs to ship. USPS simply decided to make that rule.
BTW no two people on this forum agree on what the laws and rules for shipping and transferring firearms are.

Priority mail, flat rate box. I have shipped a variety of things in flat
rate boxes and never once been asked specifically what was inside.
