Default You're Not Buying Anymore Guns

How many guns have you bought since your better half first insisted that you are not buying any more guns? I count seven.:-)

Uh... not gonna answer that. But, when asked "How many guns do you need?" My stock answer is always "just one more".

Conchita has never told me not to buy more guns. On the contrary, she encouraged my last purchase. If it is a problem, it is self-limiting one. I don't have so much money that my purchases could go out of control by anybody's standards.

Oh, no, my "better half" has NEVER said anything about me buying firearms!

In fact every time I leave the house to go to a gun show she hands me the check book and says, "Hope you find something!"...

If your "better half" tells you how you can and can't spend you're money maybe she's not really the "better" half.

As near as I can figure it the count would be 17. could be one or two more. The last 10 or so she just rolled her eyes slowly shook her head and sighed deeply. I'm pretty sure I wasn't fooling her any more. But she never really minded. It was just that she didn't understand

No problem, no better half.
But he was wondering what was going on when I bought my
first 2 Smiths in one week several years ago.

I lost count 30 plus years ago and she stopped saying no more about 20 years ago. I guess with time things have kind of worked out.

Fortunately, my wife would never say anything like that.

Admittedly, the most recent purchases were the results of a mission to find a revolver that she would enjoy.

Yes, I ended up with a couple of the rejects.

However, in the final analysis the mission was a success.

I just assumed the wife meant long guns - she didn't mention revolvers.

This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with a cousin of mine in Dallas a few weeks ago. He said he had his guns out on the bed and was going through them deciding what to keep and what to sell, his wife walks in and says to him " You do not need anymore guns you have 35 already, he said "No I don't" and she says yes you do I just counted them! He says, " Then you didn't count all of them". I'm sure it didn't go well after that.

Mrs. doesn't concern herself with my guns. Should she ever ask, I'll open the safe, let her look to her heart's content. Point is, she knows I have guns, and she knows there will be more. About the only time the subject ever comes up is if she's watching a TV show and there's a gun involved. She'll occasionally ask, "Do you have one of those?" If I do, I'll tell her. Too lazy to lie about it.

She does not bother me on the gun hobby buying. Heck we are married 45 years and she was out target shooting with me when we were dating, and in late 1970s she got her own unrestricted carry permit.

She will on occasion ask me if there is any more room in the safe as we really do not have room to put in another safe.

Not only does she not bother me about gun purchases she has been asking (hinting) to me that now the C7 Vette is out there when I am going to sell my 07 and get a new one. Yes she has sisters but they are all married!

My wife is actually pretty good with me buying guns. I was admiring a gun on GB the other day and she said "why don't you buy it if you want it". But truthfully now that I'm older I've really almost stopped buying and have sold most of my safe queens. Now unless it's something I know I'm going to shoot regularly or carry, I'm not buying more. I guess I would feel differently if my son had any interest in guns. Leaving a bunch of guns behind for my wife to figure out what to do with them is not what I want to do.

My wife is very cool.

On the Kelly File last night, the story of M855 being banned comes up. The wife asks if we need it. I tell her we have two 600rd cases of Fed and some Xtac too. She tells me that's not enough.

I've got my wife convinced they're investments. Of course she has no reason for all the clothes she buys and they take up far more room than my guns.

If you buy right, it doesn't take much convincing to get the "investment concept" across. My very intelligent wife, who is not a clothes horse, figured out long ago that a $400 gun two years later is a $500 gun and a $300 dress two years later is $25. On the other hand, I have a friend whose wife has never figured that out.

Most of my handguns have a little wheel that spins, and most of my long guns have this lever thingy that loads it. That's what my guns look like to my wife. Thankfully, she doesn't know one from the other.

However, I do have her permission to buy whatever gun I want, with only one requirement: it has to be a good investment.

My wife doesn't complain about me buying guns anymore, she saw a Colt DiamondBack .22 just like mine at a gunshow with an insanely high price on it. She asked what I paid for mine, I told her. That was the last time she complained.

I'm lucky that all my wife cares about is that she has a roof over her head, warm in the winter, cool in the summer and has cable TV. We've been married thirty four years now and if she ever came out with a demand that I not buy more guns or anything else it would be interesting.

We never discuss it. She asked me one time how many guns I own and I told her I didn't know. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I honestly don't know. I find that, invariably, when I have lived with a woman for a while that when she talks it starts to sound like the teacher on Charlie Brown. Thus I try to just grunt occasionally.

Mine has never said anything like that. She does sort of draw the line at $2,000.00+ Colt Pythons and such, but if I really wanted one, she wouldn't say a word.

My girlfriend said I am not allowed to buy another gun until I buy her an engagement ring first. This doesn't include the Sig P229 I have on layaway.

On the other hand, the day we get married her Dad's giving me his entire gun collection (he's practically blind). My gun collection will increase on our wedding day by at least 15......we know he has at least 15 firearms, but probably more.

I just tell my wife that a man's house is his castle and in this castle I'm the King. She's just a lowly serving wench.
What I say goes, her only reply is, "Yes your Majesty." When I send her for a beer she's to present it to me on bended knee, bowing her head and saying, "Here your Majesty."
If I want to buy I gun, she has no say in it. Her only reason for existence is to serve me.

Man I hope she never figures out my password.

If I should ever suddenly disappear you will know I tried talkin' to Miss Pam like that. I don't think she'd kill me but it would be a couple of weeks before the swelling went down and my vision cleared and maybe a month or so I'd be back on solid food.

Pro'lly won't happen though. After 44 years I know how and how not to run my mouth when she is in ear-shot.

And I'm just guessin' here but I'd bet that your wife doesn't read this site.

Some of you guys might benefit from the knowledge that most women cannot differentiate one gun from another. Ruger, Colt, S&W, broomhandle Mauser, they're all the same: dirty, greasy, and they smell.

On the other hand, most women do have a sharp eye for colors, textures, etc.

So if you typically face a game of 50 questions every time you return from the gun show or LGS, here is one possible solution. Buy a half dozen gun rugs, all exactly the same. You leave the house with a handful of gun rugs, you return to the house with a handful of identical gun rugs.

"Find anything at the show?" "No, dear - same old smelly guns that were at the last show. I just decided to keep my old ones."

Not that I would ever resort to this type of deception with my wonderful wife.

I didn't marry someone that would harangue and harrass me, I trust my wife's opinion and value her judgment. She has kept me off motorcycles for the past fifteen years and I have patiently listened to her reasons, she is right. I was nearly killed back when I was twenty-two on a motorcycle and parts of me have never fully recovered, if I had even a simple little slip and slide today at my age I would never recover sufficiently to continue to live the way I do now. This is especially true with all of the innattentive drivers messing around with their cell phones, gps, and mpc players.
She doesn't get involved with my purchases, whether they were for car parts and such when I was into that or whether its for guns and gun parts etc. I think she likes the fact that I'm involved with something that gets me out of the house every other day and has developed into more than a hobby. She was worried about what I would be doing with myself after I retired and never bothers me with alot of questions about what I'm doing or where I'm going, we have a trusting relationship and I like that.

My wife has her hobbies and I have mine. We don't hassle each other over the purchases we make, but at the same time we have enough respect for each other to not go overboard with spending. As long as the bills are paid and there is a little extra put away for a rainy day, any money left over is fair game. Although, anymore I get as much joy out of seeing the money spent on something that puts a smile on my wife or sons face, as I would a new gun purchase for myself.

Just for everyone's edification. All cats complain. What's bad for them but maybe good for us is that we can never know what any particular complaint is about other than they're hungry.

When mine complain I check their food and water and it that's ok then they're on their own.

I have been divorced three times. The current one knows I have limits. And honestly, I have never heard a doubting or questioning word.

I would take that as a challenge... which explains the 0-for-2 in the marital league.
