I just cleaned up my old model 14 and readied it for several months of storage. I like to leave a nice coating of oil on my guns when they won't be used for a while.

Back in the 'old' days, it was pretty simple. Hoppes #9 as a solvent, then any old K-Mart oil.

After an hour or so, I went back to it and found it kind of sticky and splotchy looking. It wiped clean, but already was coagulating in a few spots.

Anyone else find this?

I've never used it. For many years I've used a light coat of Rem-Oil or, with stainless guns, just a good rub with a silicone-impregnated cloth, either one about once a year if the guns are to be stored. I've never had a gun rust, even when they haven't been used for years, and I don't own a safe.

Oh well, what the hell.

I used to use Hoppe's No 9; used to buy it by the quart. Then I tried Hoppe's Elite; bore came clean quicker with Elite than anything else I've tried. I wipe it dry after, and have never had a problem with oil congealing.

Hoppe's Elite is essentially MPro7 both in cleaner and in oil. Works fine.

I got some for a particularly difficult patch of fouling on a cylinder. It cleaned it up pretty well. I just wiped down a stainless Security Six and it looks and feels great. Don't use it often but, I'm happy with how it performs. It doesn't smell either.

Remoil is excellent - but Rig #2 Oil is better. Both dry relatively quickly leaving behind rust protection and lubrication.

Real men use Ed's Red and steal the ingredients.

I use Hoppes Elite it cleans well, I don't like the sticky feeling. I wipe it off and use hoppes gun oil to wipe the down.
