Default CA Required Revolver Markings?

I have one of my S&W revolvers for sale on one of the popular auction sites and today I received an inquiry about special markings required by California.

According to the inquisitor, S&W revolvers are required to be stamped with an "A" under the frame top strap or a "B" on the frame bottom strap.

Can anyone tell me if this is, in fact, a requirement? I am aware of their laws concerning micro-stamping semi-auto pistols but I was unaware of any such requirements for revolvers.

Thanks,
Bob

I don't why the link does not open. California DOJ states if the product code ends with an "A" or a "B" it must be engraved under the top strap.
I have never received a good answer as to why. I've given up trying to use logic with gun laws.
See if this opens.

OK this seems to open. Click on the find tab and it will show the proper screen.
