Thank you and,im glad your doing better. The total time for expected for mine is about six hours spread over three days? Day one is outpatient then ill be one to two nights for step two and then last step is outpatient. Corpus only has two Neurosurgeons left. We had four-but two retired due to current ACA healthcare mess and one is partly retired but still works one day of the week.I got lucky that his day is Thursday-so he too was presant when I was with the Neurosurgeon and my regular Dr. I had three Drs for the price of one. Anyway, they all agreed I needed surgery so--im stoked for it.

Ill be posting regularly on this also because someone several months ago posted needing info about this kind of surgery. I have two spare DvDs on this if anyone is interested in watching one? I have no probs on sending them a copyif wanted?

That is one thing we touched on. Mainly, the one percent chance--is mostly due to the person having poor health problems like--poor heart conditions or diabetes and other majors conditions. Thankfully--im not bothered with anything of that nature-so they both said I shouldnt have anything to worry about. Ive not lost any sleep over anything discussed.

Im going to tell the anesthesiaologist that I want them to make sure I get whats needed. Back when my left foot was being operated on--I did feel loads of pain when they were still cutting into my foot. I wasnt able to speak but,I guess I was starting to squirm about and they must have realized I was prematurely coming about--and I guess they figured I needed more gas--and I dont remember anything else from that surgery.

I think they must have thought that since I did feel pain--that I might sue them? so they never charged me for the second foot surgery. I never thought about suing them anyway but--I kept my mouth shut over it.

I will pray for you Ringo. It most likely sounds worst than it is. Just last week I had my second abdominal surgery in a year for the same problem, they didn't fix the problem and had to redo it. Any surgery is hard. They messed up my throat with the breathing tube this time.

Thank you and,I tried giving a better reply yesterday but wifi was messing up. Anyway, you guys have more guts than I can--ill be sleeping and hopefully not awaking sometime during the drilling.I had both feet operatedon back about five years ago.First one went perfectly--I started waking upwhile I was being sawed intoon the left fot.I wanted to scream and such asI felt every bit of it--but I guesssed they noticed I was squirming a bit and gassed me some more. I noticed I never recieved a bill for the second surgery.I guess they figured Imight sue---but I never gave it any thought.

On the guns--short story. My idiot brother--had a severe case of the stupids and GAVE away all my dads guns--including that Winchester I wanted. My grandfather captured that Winchester off of one of Pancho villas bandits he killed. That bandit took that rifle when they raided Colombus New Mexico. Because of my brothers stupidity--he's permanently off the list of those who will get what I have--so you have one less person to compete with.

Being a Westerns fan,I wanted to go around looking a bit like Wild Bill Elliott. He wore his two revolvers butt-forward.

Glad to hear about his good news.Truthfully, the only other thing im worried about--is my hospital bill. It'll be an expensive over night or two night stay.Last time I was in--I was in for five days--paid roughly five hundred out of pocket. I want to buy another gun in August and hope the funds will be there?

Hi sir,I did.I also had my reular Dr there as well as a semi-retired Neurosurgeon. The semi-retired guy only works on thursdays and I was in luck since I had my appton that day.Anyway, they all did agree I needed it Some of the problems that is happening that I needed addressed are:
Memory loss-short term.
Im losing the ability to hold a glass without spilling its contents.
I can no longer handwrite ligible letters. Just ask Ron--he was the recipient of one of mine.
Im also losing balance and am getting stints of disorientation.

I dont know what all surgery can fix?but do know at least a few symptoms will be gratly reduced. The surgery ill have is of the kind where--at a later date--they can upgrade on.There is another surgery where no upgrade is possible--but I dont know the name of it.

My only question for the surgeon (or surgical team) would be concerning their number of surgeries completed in the past, and their successful outcomes (this should be as close to 100% as possible).

We certainly hope that all of the procedures will be very successful so that you can return to full-time work in your profession. That will also permit you to make more meaningful contributions to your "Gun Budget"!

Please continue to keep us posted.
Hi Bill,im not fully sure yet? They said most likely it will be here in Corpus, but if they think better? then would be in Austin. They said if its here? most likely ill be at either Spohn Memorial, or Spohn Shoreline. Part of the if--is on what date they will actally set me up for? They only have two Neurosurgeons here in Corpus--so that's why Austin is open in case.

That was something I forgot to ask--how many surgeries they have done. When I had my gallbladder removed, the surgeon I had had done fifteen thousand during her time and only lost one patient who had some preexisting condition. She had asked if I had any concerns? I told her I couldnt think of any and she said I was going to be operated on at seven the next morning. All I remember is the trip down stairs and the gas--then waking up sometime later. This lady was fantastic. This operation ususlly lasts upwards to about ninety minutes--and mine was only half that time.I was told I was easily the easiest patient she ever had. Sadly, I dont think she is praticing any longer? Not only did Ithink she did an excellent job--but she had a great sense of humor.

Speaking of gun budget. For now thats down to zero but--I do have a bit of good news. Since I was missing all day Sat and most of Sunday--I was at the gun show. I had brought trading material with me--which consisted of several bayonets I wanted to get rid of-and a few boxes of ammo. Well, I had been lugging this stuff with me but not really trying to sell or trade yet-came across a guy who had about a hundred handguns on his table and I looked about. While looking he asked if he could look at my bayonets--which I handed over. After a few minutes,he asked if I was letting go of the small collection-and I said yes. He said--he was interested in the whole schmoo.

None of these bayonets was worth much in my opinion--which was why I was cutting back on my collection. I still have four or five. anyway,he asked what I wanted--I said I had no set price in mind and just make me an offer. He said he could give me slighly over two hundred in trade for anything on his table. AllI had paid for those bayonets--was about thirty dollars. These except one--were the worst of what I had at home.

I said well,im interested in that Heritage Arms SSA Rough Rider twenty two he had.His was priced with atx--about two eighty-five. He toldme that someone who just left his table before I got there-was interested in a few certain bayonets--all of which were the ones I had with me. This guy was a Marine vet from the Vietnam war--also been in Law Enforcement for thirty-five years. Well,I still had some trade ammo with me and he was interested in it too. I paid about nineteen bucks for the three packs of CCI Stingers, and he said he would give me fourty for the three. The average price for them at this show was roughly sixteen to about twenty five per fifty. He gave me seventeen per pack in trade. So basically,, I got a NIB Rough Rider for less than twenty five bucks. While we were making this deal--the guy who wanted bayonets came back and ogled those blades. Once he found those had been mine--he asked if I had others I wanted to get rid of?I said I still had four or five and could possibly sell them. I told him I had two I would give to him if he gave me an address to send them to? I toldhimI had two AK-fourty seven bayos from Nam--one with brown and the other with black handles. These probably aint worth much--I think I got them about ten years ago for about ten each? These are minty-no dings etc. So,as of Tuesday--these will be going out to someone who can appreciate them more than I can.

Next show is in August and im HOPING all the militaria I want to sell off-is sold by then.I want a Henry in fourty five--or three fifty seven--and in a bad way. Also I "need" another GI fourty five. I found an Auto Ordnance GI.NiB for about four-fifty. The dealer gets them in allthe time-sowill have them at the next show. Im also hoping another member here--will be at that show--because he has a Luger im interested in providing it doesnt sell by then? Ill buy that before I buy that Henry I want.

Prayers and thoughts are sent, your going to be fine.

My son had brain surgery at 10yo, he's 40yo and still a PIA nothing changed. He has two degrees in engineering and is starting to rack up the patents now.

Modern technology is unbelievable now since then. You will be ok.

God bless, bill

I do totally believe in that. Case in point--when I was still living in Austin--I collapsed twice--the second time I didnt passout competely. My brother discovered me laying in the front yard at about nine PM,and called the ambulance. They got there about three minutes later and the guy treating me--took my BP--said it was at thirty. He said since I was on the ground for thirty minutes--that it was more likely at twenty five. He told me people almost never survive BP that low and he has lost many and frankly told me--I should have been dead. I wound up in the hospital for about five days to be tested--and they still couldnt really figure it out? I was taking Propranolol--which is a high BP med--but it was prescribed to calm my shakes. They THINK that that was what causedmy collapse?but never really proved it.Anyway ,they cancelled that medicine and I havent collapsed since then. I still get dizzy when doing exercise walks.

I am.They were originally supposed to set me up for surgery in oh five--but never got around to doing it. I saw two different Neurologists back then. Both agreed on surgery--but the one who wasgoing to set it up--moved his practce to Scottsdale, Arizona. The other--wanted me on drugs for another year. I did for one month then said no more as they were not working. After that,I stopped the visits--wound up eventually moving to Houston-then Austin and back here in eleven. I started up with another Neurologist here-who was the only one who was against surgery, and wanted me on the same drugs I had taken before--and to which he even said--would not help me any. I stopped seeing this guy and he wound up retiring a few months later.

Good luck....will say a prayer for you.

I taped my visits with the oncologist and surgeons ( they didn't like it) but when the Dr says CANCER your mind doesn't focus on much else.

I hear you on that. I lost a brother to it and he never smoked--lung cancer at thirty three. A friend of mine lost his voice due to it but seems to be doing well with his treatment. I wouldnt wish cancer--even on my worst enemy if I had one?

Thank you sir. One thing I am really looking forwards to--is getting back to the gun range. Right now my hands just shake too much to be safe with anything other than a rifle. I have been wanting to test out the last two revolvers I managed to get. One is a thirty eight special--the other a twenty two.

Heh heh,the only thing I can think of is help in choosing something for one of those karma things. I was figuring on some kind of a gift card since I couldnt think of anything else of use to anyone?

BTW--I just got called and now have an appointment on April twenty first. Not sure what this is about yet but--im needing to meet with another surgeon. I guess the process has officially began.

Im glad it did wonders for your wife. My older sister and a Cousin have the samething I do,only mines worse.I remember people telling me as far back as ninety six--that they noticed my shaking--which I nerver noticed myself. It was nine years later when i was diagnosed with it. Even then--I still never noticed anything was wrong.
Yep, that's it. DBS is Direct Brain Stimulation. For her it was a two step process. In the first surgery they install two electrodes in through the top of the head and run the signal wires down the back of the neck and cap them off there until the second surgery. About 10-14 days later they install the control device, kind of like a heart pacer, under the colar bone. They will then push the signal wires down the inside of the neck under the skin and connect them to the control device.

My wife saw immediate results.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

My mum has it to, but she had a medicine pump installed.
Not the expencive type just a budget version.
The doctors wouldnt spend the time and money on her "she is just a'n old woman"
I wish karma would strike back at them

Any way, i'v heard wonders about your type of op. so fear not.
You will get back in the sadle really soon after the surgery

I was thinking of an outcome that could be a little different. A screw loose would be a bad thing. I assume. since you're on the forum and love guns, you tend to be conservative. Let's hope they don't get something cross wired and accidentally change you into a raging liberal. If they do, and you start selling your guns, please keep me in mind!!!!! Seriously, prayers being sent that you come out of this OK. Any surgery is scary and when they start messing with the most important part of the body it's only normal to be very concerned. Hang in there Ringo!!!!!!!

Glad hers is working out well for her. I wonder if there will be any problems taking a shower with those wires before everything is complete? I had a pic line once after I had a major surgery back six years ago,but had no problems with wires getting wet.

Hope hers ended upthey way she needed it. Luckily ive never had any "bad"doctors--even though a Dr did mess up on operating on my left foot. I dont hold it against him as I thought he tried his best. that operation was supposed to stop the pain in my foot--but greatly increased it--so I have to get it operated on again some time soon.

Im hoping that I can keep doing my exercise walks daily--I cant stand being idle. Crossword Puzzles only go so far as entertainment.

Heh heh, funny you should mention that. I was just talking with my neighbor yesterday afternoon and she mentioned that things wouldnt be the same if it turned me anti-Conservative. My neighbor loves to talk about certains like that to see my reaction.However--I think she too needs brain surgery to help her memory out, because--I never change my emotions when discussing those things. I like to keep them guessing.

Thank you for all the positive stuff.

They don't leave the wires hanging out . . . they roll them up and leave them under the scalp. They are very tiny, more like filements than wires.

The radiation for my prostate cancer was faster than nifty lube. Or in and out burger? I dropped my shorts in front of six women I didn't know. With me being very shy it's a curse. But they made me feel comfortable. The radiation techs(nurses) were awesome. After 45 radiation treatments I know what being in a microwave feels like. Lol
But modern medicine is unbelievable. They do this stuff everyday. It's easy to them and a pit stop for us. You have a different out look on life. Another page to turn.
My plans changed,

Fishing
More fishing
Shooting
More shooting
Bikini watching
More bikini watching
Even more bikini watching

That's it, plus watch the grass and corn grow. I don't care about anything life's too short.

God bless, bill

Whew, good.I dont like taking baths--just showers. When I had had major surgery in oh eight--they did have one wire running outside my body--but was only for a medicine ball which had morphine in it. Thankfully,I only had to wear it for about ten days.

Good Luck! My surgery, as I mentioned long ago now was a two day affair, resulting in my early retirement. I too was told I could pass during the surgeries, or wake up a few days later...I took lots of blood and there were fears by family, but I am still here! Good Luck!! Prayer seems to help!
