Default Storage Question!!!

I have what I consider to be a safe queen, and although it might be shot a few times, the majority of the time will be spent in the storage. By the way its a 29-2 8 3/8 in almost really good condition. My question is.... If I have a 40mm ammo can, can I put the gun in zcorr bag, seal it shut, place some silica packs in the can, and be ok? Right now the gun has three coats of ren wax on it and some breakfree down the barrel.

Will this be adequate to prevent rust on the blued finish?

About the only way to do better is to get a 6" goldenrod, drill a wee hole in the can for the cord, put the goldenrod in the ammo can, seal it and plug in the goldenrod.

Seriously, your approach should be sufficient. Take the 29 to the range every six months or so, use, clean, wax, store, repeat

Not quite sure why the ZCorr bag; is your storage area temperature controlled? If so, then a BoreStore, the silica packs and the ammo can would be better. The ZCorr bag locks in the air and moisture; the BoreStore breathes. That said, mine get out every 3-4 months or so for shooting/cleaning... That and the goldenrod in the safe work fine.

I like the idea of drilling the hole, but what would i seal it with to provide an airtight can?

I have a new unfired by me model 27 8 3/8 in nickel that I bought in 1979 and I keep mine in a good case with silica gel bags and I wipe it down twice a year and I have no issues still looks like the day I bought it. I like to keep my classics like new.

Trying to operate some sort of powered dryer inside a sealed environment wont do you a lot of good...where is the moisture going to go??? How will it leave???
I have a pretty extensive collection of safe queens...old doubles, Winchesters, Model 12's etc. I use Rig grease inside and out {keep it off the wood} and go over everything every 6 months. I live in an area with fairly high humidity the better part of the year and I have never had trouble with rust yet. I do not use electric dryers of any kind in my safe.

I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my guns. S/N's, condition, etc. I added a column titled "Last fired/Cleaned". Then it is easy to see how long it has been since any particular piece has been maintained. I don't have very many guns since the tragic boating accident but I would not be able to remember the last time each one was rubbed on without this list. I think this is more important than what product you use.

Here's a tip for those that have a hard time finding silica packs. One or two disposable baby diapers folded inside out and placed in the bottom of your storage compartment really do the trick. They're loaded with moisture grabbing technology .

I don't have any safe queens but if I wanted to store a gun for a few years I'd probably just oil it and put it in a Ziplock bag filled with nitrogen and maybe a silica pack. You can get small canisters of nitrogen from winemaking shops.

Don't over think it.

Wax or oil, (don't want to get one of those threads going again) put in a gun sock and place in a pistol rack so it doesn't get bump or rub marks.

The main thing is use a golden rod, heater stick, etc. in your safe.
Take out and fondle every now and then, re-wax or oil.
