Question Hot Sauce preferences

I like Tabasco (Red Original) and go through several small bottles a year. Another I like is Scorned Woman. It tastes great on breakfast sausage. Any other good ones out there that can be recommended? I have a few others that the labels can't be put in print.

Tabasco is easy to find, but I prefer Cajun Chef brand.

I have a preference for La Victoria Salsa Brava, I am not too fond of vinegar based hot sauces.

El Yucateco green or the Mayan version, Gil's Hellbanero Sauce, Vietnamese chili-garlic paste, and sriracha. My sister makes a habanero/jalapeņo sauce that's wonderful, but she hasn't made a batch for a while.

A young kid I used to work with was gullible in every aspect of his life. One day while eating lunch someone bet him $5 he couldn't drink a 10oz. glass of Tabasco. He did it but instead of paying up the other person wanted to go "double or nothing".The young kid drank the second glass and eventually got his $10.Surprisingly,there were no ill after effects.

I don't mind heat but if it means I can't finish my meal or my tastebuds are shot for the rest of the day then I'll refrain from using it all together.

There are a couple others that are okay, but Tabasco Original has been my life-long favorite. I had some just tonight on my scrambled eggs! Yes, breakfast for dinner.

I have tried quite a variety, but I keep coming back to the original Tabasco.

I like to mix it in my eggs before scrambling or making an omlette. Also good in chicken or tuna salad. On pizza. Those are the main uses I recall.

I've posted a topic similar to this at one of my other hangouts. Running out of hot sauce at the house is like the zombie apocalypse as far as I'm concerned, so I try to be well stocked. Favorite is "Louisiana" brand. Regular Tabasco is good and their garlic Tabasco is fantastic. I always have some Texas Pete on hand as well as Franks. Our Louisiana brethern have it right, hot sauce goes on everything!

Crystal Hot Sauce is the best Louisiana hot sauce, period. It actually has flavor. I preferred Tabasco as youngster, but once I had Crystal I realized hot sauce was more about good flavor and less about vinegar and spice. It might not be as spicy, but Crystal adds flavor to anything.

I have tried nearly every one mentioned thus far in this thread, but I always seem to revert back to Tabasco (Green for oysters, original Red otherwise) and Texas Pete. I really love TP. Probably go through a couple of gallons each year (buy it by the quart). Jalapeno slices are another staple. I often eat a small jar full on a single large pizza.

As I've gotten older, I've mellowed a bit and have come to prefer the milder hot sauces such as Tabasco (red), Texas Pete and similar. I stumbled upon some local made stuff at a gun show earlier this year called "Darn Good Hot Sauce". I tried a sample, liked it and bought a bottle. If I had known then how much I was going to like it, I would have bought several bottles. I use it on damn near everything.

As a Texan, I like all of them. But I do tend to prefer the Mexican style
salsas, picante sauces and such over the Tabasco type sauces..
But any of them will work in a pinch, and also depends on what type
of food I'm pouring it on.. IE: on red beans and rice, I would prefer
Tabasco over a salsa..

Texas baby food..

Tabasco in just about all soups and stews and hot Hungarian paprika on fried foods. Vietnamese sriracha over rice dishes works for me.

My personal preference in hot sauces is towards the hotter side but not so hot as to obscure the flavor of the sauce or the food. This requires different sauces for different dishes. I have tried hundreds of them, and for a time grew peppers in the garden to make my own sauces. I keep 3 types in my spice rack for daily use.

For lighter flavored foods and bulk use like making wing sauce I like Tapatio and Sriracha these are fairly inexpensive, have a nice flavor, a bit of a bite, and come in large use jugs.

For a bolder smokier flavor that goes well with chili, BBQ, red meats, and beef based soups and stews I like one of the many Chipotle based sauce such as El Yucateco. Try a few dashes in your next batch of French Onion Soup, it adds a whole new dimension to a timeless classic.

For just plain heat I use a few drops or more of one of those "nothing but heat" boutique brands, Dave's Insanity is pretty easy to come by, too much of this type of sauce can make the food unpalatable, but the right mix can make the dish special.

Not a big fan of hot sauce, but if I need a little flavor I reach for the original Tobasco sauce.

Tobasco is ok if you're still not allowed to watch rated R movies Tabasco has more of a sour/vinegar sodium taste. No heat. I prefer to taste the heat and the pepper.

I'll buy all kinds to try but I prefer anything with ghost or scorpion peppers. I also buy them and eat them fresh and dehydrate them and use them in cooking

Currently I'm enjoying this. Bought 2 different bottles.

And they even have a disclaimer

" BE WARNED: This sauce contains ingredients 900 times hotter than a jalapeņo chili. Use sparingly. Not recommended for use without dilution.

DISCLAIMER: This product contains the hottest known ingredients on the planet. Please use with extreme caution. "

Forgot to add that there is also a beer called Ghost Face Killah. It's a summer ale brewed with ghost peppers and other peppers. Has a nice burn at the end. Drink the beer and sweat!

I'm a Tabasco man myself but I'll use different sauces for different things. Cajun Power Garlic Sauce is a good one as are some of the private label sauces put out by the Gumbo Shop in New Orleans. I like Crystal Hot Sauce on scrambled eggs and so on. It's all good.

Original Tabasco is my favorite and I go through quite a bit as I dribble it on a lot of things from eggs, sandwiches, pizza, soup, etc. I like the vinegar base and for my taste it's hot enough w/o being too hot.
LOL a few years ago for my birthday my daughter gave me a gallon jug of the stuff, it came direct from McIlhenny with my name on the label! That's a lot of Tabasco and try as I may by using it on almost everything after 18 months or so it began to turn brown and I poured the remaining quart out.

I'll generally prefer to cook the heat into stuff. Give me a good hot vindaloo or curry and I'm happy.

Unfortunately out here people apparently like boring food. Everything that should be spicy's mild.
Mild curry? That's a total waste of time.
I cook meat, eggs and stuff with a combination of hot peppers and when I do use a sauce, it's usually Sriracha.

Couldn't agree more. I have yet to eat anything at any restaurant that was actually hot. Even "nuclear hot" wings at the local pizza shop is grossly misrepresentated imo

I have tried a lot of brands but lately I just pick up whatever is cheapest, I'm not too picky about my hot sauce. A few years ago our local dollar store sold 3 bottles of their hot sauce for $1 and I always made a special trip there to pick up a few bottles. I used to drown everything I ate in hot sauce but these days with my son who is almost 2 eating bites of my food along with me, I have to leave it out of most meals.

My favorite, for flavor, is Cholula hot sauce. I prefer it with meats and on beans, eggs, etc. Imported from Mexico and has less of a vinegar taste than Tabasco.

I like different kinds for different foods. I keep Tobasco and Sriracha at the house, and I make my own hot vinegar sauce. On fried chicken I like Texas Pete. Tobasco for catfish, peas, and other vegetables. When I go to Fire House Subs, they have a rack full of different sauces that they rate from 1-10. I usually pick one that's 6-8. I like the Scorned Woman, it's an 8. I really like sauces that I can use some of. I don't get the idea of an exteme sauce and just use a couple of drops on something. If I really want to get lit up from heat, I bite into the side of a raw jalapeno.

Used to love the hotter, pepper based sauces, but always steered clear of the extracts. Now in my mid 40's, I'm finding out what my Dad meant, when he was my age and I was in my 20's, when I'd offer him something with some big heat in it: "No, I'm sure its good, I just can't eat that stuff anymore....".

Was never an original Tabasco fan, but do like their Chipotle, Jalapeno, and Habanero sauces. Crystal and Franks are go to for flavor, as well as Siracha. If I find something needs a bit of a boost, I have a few different dry blends I can add to "liven" things up a bit.

I am a conneseur of hot sauce and have tried a lot of them. For best taste, I go with Crawdad's Classic. It brings good heat, but the taste is the best that I have had. I take a table spoon and have it without anything, the taste is so good.

I have gone through a lot of hot sauces. Will default to Tabasco if
nothing else is available.

For quite a while my favorite has been D.L. Jardine's Texas Champagne.
It's subtitled "Cayenne Pepper Sauce."
Ingredients are red peppers, vinegar and salt.
Works for me.

I like hot sauce. I'm fortunate to have several grocery stores near me that cater to the Latinos in the area. I also spend winters in southern NM/AZ and hit a lot of small local grocery stores there. Every year I find something new from from Mexico. You might say it's a hobby just sampling made in Mexico hot sauce. I found a good one this year but it's almost gone. The mfg. is Castillo and the label is Sonora medium. A buck fiddy at a small store in Columbus NM.

http://www.mexgrocer.com/24836-00303.html

My fall back is Valentina
Valentina Salsa Picante Mexican Hot Sauce 12 oz

Tabasco works if your stranded.

Another nice touch is chopping up dried red chiles when you need chile powder in sauces. I pick up a ristra when I'm in NM and dry it in the oven some more. I store that in the frig until I need the powder. Fresh ground powder is something special.

Another vote for Cholula, imported from Mexico and readily available at many grocery store chains. Easy to identify with its wooden, ball-shaped top. Adds excellent flavor to foods without turning them into flamethrowers. I had never been much of a hot-sauce fan until I tried this stuff recently and really liked it. Goes into my homemade chili every time I cook it now. Highly recommended!

Crystal over original red tabasco, but I am really developing a fondness for Chipotle flavored Tabasco.

I also eat a lot of chili paste and Sriracha. Every so often I'll find a restaurant that makes their own or favors some off brand that I really like. I don't fix on one.

I like Tabasco as well. I just don't keep it in my house for some reason. I do like Louisiana and i do keep that. The WalMart version is also very good (very similar). Cholula's would be a 3rd favorite.

I have a shelf full in our fridge and use them all, but Frank's has been my go to hot sauce for 30 years. It goes on almost everything.

I like the original Tabasco and Cholula; will try any that's on the restaurant table when we travel. Been known to buy bottles of good stuff when the restaurant would sell some.
I'm way past the stage of proving my manhood by eating/drinking sauce or peppers, but a little 'zing' is still enjoyable. My usual routine for biscuits'n'gravy is to have a couple of sunny up eggs on top; baptize one side (sprinkle, not immerse) with the sauce du jour (whatever's on the table); eat that side first; the second half lets me keep the flavor, but not destroy taste buds.

TOM story: Out to supper with Preacher and some church friends, I was acting my usual young-n-stupid, and put a couple shakes of Tabasco in my glass of ice water. Come to find out, that does something to increase the BTU's of Tabasco. Try it, but have a glass of milk handy...... Acebow

The wife must of got a good deal in Frank's wing sauce, because there's one in the frig and something like six bottles in the pantry. It's pretty good. But I like a salty vinegar type hot sauce. Valentina is also excellent. Tabasco red for certain things, like omelets and Bloody Marys.

That's another very good one. I'll rate that one a 5 star with the two I posted about.
