Default Officer runs down suspect with car.

This happened back in Febuary. Details are just coming out now.
Full Story Here

Be sure to read the entire story and not just watch the video.

Short version: Arizona officers are confronted by a man armed with a rifle. Suspect has already had two altercations with Police earlier in the day. Possably mentally unstable, refuses to obey officer's commands. Another officer runs the suspect over with his patrol car.

Excessive force? In this case I not only think it was justified, but a smart move. What say you?

If that was my neighborhood the guy was walking through shooting, I would be glad to see him stopped by any means necessary.

The "Brady Bunch" is happy he made the Felony Stop without using his gun, however...

The "MADD" bunch has their panties in a wad because he used his Cruiser to.

The video got "two thumbs up" from the Liberal cast of "Morning Joe" this morning.......... course they were also saying the Postal worker in the Gyrocopter should have been shot down. Gotta Love the media....

Two robberies and a carjacking (if I heard correctly this morning)........ stolen rifle....after he fired the rifle into the air...... gloves come off and almost anything goes......... option was to snipe him

The front lawn to the Capitol building is WAY more than 100 yards from the White House. More like a couple miles.

We ask our LEO to protect us from this very scenario. A felon on the loose with a loaded gun (which he fired). In return we owe it to the cops to allow them to conduct their jobs accordingly and do their best to make it home to their families and loved ones.

They asked him to stop. He didn't. I have no issue in what happened afterwards. If I was stupid enough to act like he did, I'd expect the same results.

It takes what it takes. I'm just glad the officer driving (or anyone else) wasn't shot by this guy.

A stray 30-30 can do a lot of damage. Had the LEO pulled up, tried to cut him off and engage him, he could have been at a disadvantage. While he is trying to exit the cruiser, he faces a perp who is armed, on stable ground and has proven that he will fire.

As mentioned, it was a populated area too risky for a firefight.
If the bad guy had stolen a 12 pack, then the officer's action would be abhorrent to us. But he didn't. The chances that someone could be killed or badly wounded (again the 30-30) were obviously perceived, by the officer, to be at DEFCON 1.

The threat was stopped without injury to officers or civilians.

Mission accomplished.

The cop deserves a big attaboy. He quickly assessed all the risks and his options, he acted, and the outcome was the most favorable one could realistically hope for.

Yes! I am pleased to hear of the quick thinking by this local to me police officer. Bravo!

Oddly, I do NOT recall reading or hearing any coverage of the original event.

You forgot to add that he had also set fire to a church earlier that morning.

Personally, in my opinion, the only thing the officer did wrong was that he didn't back up over the guy again. (As you can see, it was probably a darn good thing that I didn't go into law enforcement.)

Wink Nice piece of police work

In criticizing the cop this idiots lawyer stated that her client posed "no threat to the community".

I guess she has no clue what constitutes a "threat". A loaded (he'd already fired one shot in the air), 30 caliber rifle in the hands of deranged criminal certainly qualifies in my book. Nice to know that he has a moron for an attorney.

That looked like an 8mm Mauser. That is not a tool you allow somebody to recklessly shoot in a built up area.

ETA:

Hmm, seems like it was a 30-30. There was another camera angle in another video and it looked a lot like a Mauser M48. Never mind, good hit.

Hopefully this doesn't become standard procedure but in this case a justified use of force. The only second-guessing would be that the officer might have held off just long enough for him to clear that brick wall. Ramming full speed into that wall put his own health in a some danger that could probably have been avoided. I'm nitpicking though.
