Default Mooches I have known.

Yesterday I saw a homeless, vet, will work for money guy at the top of a ramp. Made me think of some moocher/bums I have known.

Moochers come in all walks of life semi friends, co-workers and family.

I don't mind helping someone who really needs it.

And then there are ingrates. My wife has a few strong dislikes, one is lazy or those who want a free ride.

We were going to KC, Mo to visit kids, we left STL early and stopped to get breakfast. Pulled up the ramp and at the stop sign is a fella with the will work for food sign. Usually we ignore them but this morning my wife said stop, I said huh? She gave me a small pack of chips to give him, my wife told him here eat these until you find a job. Tough little girl. After breakfast we saw him and his buddy behind a closed gas station next to our parking lot smoking, drinking something out of a brown paper bag and counting out money they took in.

Worked with a guy who's wife had him on a strict budget. She made his lunch every day. She gave him 50 cents for coffee once a day. He would never buy coffee, someone would say I've got it and buying the coffee went around to each of us. Except for the guy on a budget. His wife would not let him buy cigarettes, did not like them and she felt the money was for bills, kids etc. He saved his coffee money and would buy a pack of cigarettes which he kept on the dash of the company work truck. After lunch he would reach into the shirt pocket of the nearest guy and grab the cigarette pack, light one up and put it back. We started grabbing his hand and said want a smoke, go get some. He came up with a line, whoops forgot my cigs in the truck and reach for someones pocket. One day a guy said where did you forget your cigs today? In the Cig machine. We all busted out laughing. He was embarrassed and quit coming into the office to eat. Shortly thereafter he went to work for a new company. Guess he got free cigs there for a while.

Worked with one guy who always forgot his money at home, when we ate lunch at a restaurant he'd eat and then start his OH MY forgot my money at home speil. We all bought him lunch once each, he made as much money as we did and kept saying gonna buy all you lunch soon.

One day we were at the restaurant talking before he got there. We decided today is the day he buys. After the meal the waitress showed up with the tab, before he could say his infamous OH MY, we said that feller told us he's buying. We got up and left. His wife had to bring him the money before they would let him leave. We never bought him a meal again, but then I think he quit eating with us.

My Bro and I went on a 2.5 day float trip. Left at noon on Friday. There were about 10-15 boats on this one.

My boat had 2 swivel seats, and like the other boats we had coolers of beer and food. And then the town mooch showed up. He started going boat to boat asking if he could ride with them. All turned him down. He came up to us, I said nope. Look at you man, you do not have any food nor beer. All you have is you and a Zebco 303 and one lure. You have a job like us, we are not here to support you, you mooch beer at the watering hole. Get on down the road. Then my brother said let him ride with us I'll share my beer and food with him. I said why, bro said I feel sorry for him. I said that is what he does, *** story, folks feel sorry and buy him a beer. I said if he comes I'm not sharing with either of you. And when he loses his lure he sits.

We pushed off the gravel bar and moocher cast towards a tree hanging in the shoal. Caught the tree, lost his only lure and was down to 10-12 feet of line. My brother gave him a spinner. With the short line he didn't lose that lure. That night all of us were camped on a big gravel bar. Bro shared his food with the bum. Then the bum went to my beer cooler and opened it, I said back off. He then started mingling with others. I watched him drink a beer, and then just like it was natural he'd reach in the nearest cooler and grab a beer. He slept close to the fire with no sleeping bag. Eveyone's wife knew where we'd stop the first night.

While we were fixing breakfast the moochers wife showed up and told him in no uncertain terms, she may have had Navy verbiage training as it was not pretty and Xrated, he needed to come home and why did he go when she needed him to baby sit so she could go to work. Another bum.

As I reflect on this I now wish my wife would have been along, sure you can go on the float trip, how well do you swim????

As I have gotten older, my tolerance level for cheapskates/moochers is at an all time LOW. I simply do not tolerate them.

Most likely it's due to the few close friends I have who are all stand up guys with "who pays this time" or the "I forgot my wallet" NEVER an issue.

I visit my Nieces out on the Coast maybe twice a year. I got one their husbands going on shooting and he has since purchased a few handguns and an AR. When we visit we go to a public range out in some Natl Forest area...an old quarry.

He usually brings along a friend who makes more money than any three people. This guy and his wife BOTH drive Audi A5's, he is always dressed in the most expensive, trendiest outfits, wears $5K watches, etc.

But for some reason he can NEVER remember to buy, or can't afford AMMO.

This went on for TWO range sessions. I supplied him 4 or 5 boxes of 9mm and he shot up quite a bit of .223 ammo as well as other assorted ammo for fun guns I brought along to shoot. NEVER did he offer to reimburse or buy lunch instead. what annoyed me MOST...he never even Thanked me! Apparently he is accustomed to a free ride.

Third trip out I told the Nieces husband to REMIND this guy about ammo. Made a point of it.

Of course he shows up and his Range bag looked awfully light. We drive the 40 minutes to the Range, set up and he had brought maybe 30 rds of 9mm and that was it.

I refused to give him ANY ammo. Told him to his face that the third time was a charm.....but a charm for me not him. I wasn't going to give free ammo to a guy not even polite enough to Thank me for my ammo. Two times was enough.

He of course THEN offered to buy some of our ammo which he did from the Nieces hubby.

Can't stand cheapskates.

I try to help out friends and family when they are truly in need. For us "Never a lender or borrower be" has morphed into "How much can I afford to loose"?

A number of years ago my best friend said he needed a fairly large amount of money "so he didn't loose his house". I gave it to him with a repayment schedule that he generated. The last words spoken to him were "Don't let this ruin our friendship".

4 years later I had a judgment hearing on the day my mother flew from Florida to back to NY with my father's body. I couldn't be there for her because "my buddy" never showed and the judge kept throwing my case to the bottom of the pile giving him an opportunity to show up. I was there all day. I should have been in and out of court in plenty of time to drive 70 miles to the airport to meet her. It still gets me angry just thinking about it.

When I was a apprentice many years back I had to get coffee/snacks for a crew of about 20. I was making a 1/4 of the money a Journeyman made at that time. All there knew this that was how they started their carrier also.

We had this one person from a group that to put it nicely was known to be rather frugal. He knew his coffee and hard role came to .78 That was all he ever gave he carried a small change purse and always doled out exact. The money he gave me DID NOT INCLUDE sales tax so every day I made it up!

Most of the other guys would give you a dollar or more and did not want change, ever now and the one would put in 2 dollars and say hey kid this one is on me!

I took this free loaders BS for a few weeks and like in prison you are watched to see how you handle things.

After I figured out what I was going to do I added up the differences and did not get this clown either coffee or hard role one day.

Hey came storming over very PO and demanded I give him mine or go back to the restaurant. I told him do to sales tax issues we were now even and next week, well I want all the money including sales tax or nothing for him

He started to come at me but when I jumped up with cocked fists he decide he rather did not want to tangle with a big muscular kid half his age and slithered away.

He reported me to the boss who was a fair man and told him you had that coming, and to pay like other people do. My stock with that work crew went up considerable after that!

Ah Yes, the cigarette mooch!
We had several in my unit when I was stationed at Corpus Christi in the late '60's. Anybody remember the "lettuce leaf" cigs they tried to sell about then? I bought a pack just to try. (It only took one......) But they were handy for whenever one of the mooches tried me for a smoke. Wasn't long until they just quit asking.....
I finally just tossed the pack into the in-box on my desk.

The scary thing was that they slowly disappeared....

Usually, I take a few of my neighbors out for a birthday meal. one neighbor in particular,is somewhat of a cheapskate. The last four years--ive taken himout for abirthday dinner. He always says he'll take meout for mine. Well, not happened yet--always makes excuses--which I figured on in the first place. Well, his birthday was last month and truthfully--I had forgotten because of my upcoming surgery thing. Well, for about a week, while we were sitting on the porch talking--he kept making references to his birthday and the meals he expected to get--while looking at me. I knew what he was alluding to but played "dumb" anyway. I think he was waiting for me to suggest a date to go out and eat,but seemed very disappointed when I didnt mention anything. Anyway, I think thats the last of his free meal expectations from me.

If a person pledges to do something but doesnt--doesnt bother me unless its arepeat after repeat offense. I understand if something cant happen because of not having money--or something else going on--and doesnt bother me. What I dont like is--rescheduling my schedule for someone elses--and then what we were supposed to do--doesnt happen. For me--it is the thought that counts, and if a "date"is broken?no big deal.I get take out from somewhere--or delivery.

The mooch that gets me most annoyed is the " friend" of the boss. The guy who shows up and never ever has any cash, especially in a foreign country. Movie stars are the worst for this behavior, (but some investment bankers, too)I guess because they have worshippers fawning around them, scattering currency like rose petals in their paths.
The line gets drawn when they act like I'm supposed to be some gopher, and expect by dropping names I'm going to be impressed...
My boss refers to me as "angry crab" when that happens.
(As in "Don't annoy the angry crab")

At 2 different time, the city council of San Antonio, TX. has passed ordinances prohibiting panhandling. They don't enforce them. My wife is ez and we have had words about this. I won't give in.

Had a feller in my company while we were stationed in Japan. He would come around bumming everything, soap, smokes, towels everything. We asked what he did with his pay and he said he sent it to his wife and kids.

One of the guys worked in personal and checked his file.. You got it, not married.

He was stashing all his money and bumming what he needed After that came out, he led a pretty lonely life.

Default Beggars Can Be Choosey.

A good friend of mine was on a recent trip to New Orleans. While there, a female beggar asked him for money so she could buy a cup of coffee. My friend gave her a dollar, at which time she decried that a cup of coffee was two dollars and she demanded another dollar.

"So buy a half a cup of coffee," my friend retorted as he walked away.

Default In Bad Company

I am not a drinker. I've been in social occasions with people who drink like fish. When it came time to split the bill evenly, I found myself subsidizing the drinking habits of my so-called friends. One time, I think my one beer cost me close to $40.00.

Considering the cost of mixed drinks, a few heavy drinkers can easily double or even triple a restaurant tab. When socializing, my wife and I don't pinch pennies. Split the bill and be done with it. Fortunately, we now have a friend or two who voluntarily kick in extra to cover their inflated bar tab.

During winter we get "drifting moochers" around here. A lot warmer here than where they came from. I used to throw a buck here and there at the stoplights until one guy worked his corner and then went to the Circle K for 12pk, cigs and lotto tix. Done, although recently I was at a local light and there was a black man in dirty clothes looked to be 75 y/o+. I gave him a buck just for being old, on the road and reminding me there but for the Grace........ Joe

That reminds me of back when I was in vocational school, everyone dipped skoal but no one ever chipped in to buy or brought a can to share. A good buddy of mine came up with a good way to keep everybody from bumming from him, while in front of everyone else he would spit the dip from his mouth into a can (which everyone thought was the original can but was really just an empty can) and tell everyone he would chew it again later, we came up with a name for it ABC which stood for already been chewed. After that nobody ever asked him for a dip again.

During my Army days when we were issued C-rations all the nicotine fiends tried to be my best buddy. I made it clear those smokes were for trading, not giving.

I had to pick my wife up from work in downtown St. Louis last week, and was hit up by a homeless woman for $5.00. She actually asked for $5.00.

I had an "acquaintance" who would visit around the holidays. She was a real piece of work. Every year she helps herself to my "Blanton's" that sits on the dining room table. It comes in a nice glass decanter with a pewter sculpture of a horse for a stopper. It currently sells for a bout $55 a fifth. Empties the bloody bottle.... without even asking. After two years of this I went out and bought a bottle of the $12 a fifth bourbon (in the plastic bottle) and filled the Blanton's bottle. I was amused that for the next two yrs , she would come out, help herself, then crow how good "Blanton's Bourbon" was.... Haven't seen her for a decade, nnnnn that's fine with me.

I still keep a Blanton's bottle filled with the cheap stuff, just in case I get another mooch...

SSgt I served with told me when he was stationed in Thailand he would have to go out on the perimeter of the base to service the generators there. Charlie told me he'd be working on a noisy generator and out of the dark a Thai guard would come up and scare the **** out of him and ask for a cigarette. This got old and Charlie soaked a cigarette in starting fluid and let it dry and marked it and put it in his pack. Guard came out as usual that night and Charlie gave him the loaded cigarette. Said when he lit it up it was a huge ball of fire. Also the last time the guy came looking for a freebie too.

My F-I-L chewed since he was a teen. His first job after the service, He worked on a well rig for sample cores. A big money engineer was always bumming chew from him and of course never offering any in return. So he puts a half pouch of fresh chew in the truck glove box, in the afternoon the engineer sees him pull a pouch from his pocket and sidles right up to him, but the pouch from the pocket is about half full of old dried out chew. "Well don't worry I've got more in the glove box." When he gets to the truck, pulls out his member and pees in the dried chew, wraps it up and swaps it for the other bag in the truck saying he "Freshened" it this morning! The Engineer never took chew from him again.

On a very cold morning (sub zero wind chills) this past winter I was "greeted" by a panhandler at the top of a highway exit ramp. I rolled down my window and offered him a "Cliff" protein bar that I'd brought from home that morning.

He told me to "**** off"!

Reminds me of running around with coworkers and high school/college buddies. Anytime we would stop at Burger Chef for lunch/supper my french fries would get picked off by the round table one at a time to the point it I barely got a taste....I learned to really like lots of black pepper on my fries. Stopped 'em cold.

I love those clowns that never take the plastic off anything. They leave it on their new car seats, sofas, everything. One real cheapo couple I knew invited me and my family around for dinner and served up KFC with the plastic still on their dining chairs and sofa. Well Mrs Cheapo had bought a new plasma TV and she had kept the plastic film on with all the stickers in place. Heard about a week later that the TV had caught fire

Yup, gotta sister in law that lost her drivers license. She asked me for $80. to pay her fine and she could pick it up on their way to Virginia Beach for vacation... Told her not to bother stopping, i fell for her stories to many times and this one topped them

My first tour overseas was in the middle east. On occasion, we would get stuck in town and be forced to buy the local brand of smokes but would only smoke one or two to get us back to base. They were stale, smelled terrible and tasted even worse. Then they would go on the shelf of the wall locker. There were several guys that were too cheap to buy smokes so I bet you can guess where these awful local smokes went.

I got home a year later and brought several packs with me. Next door neighbor would come over and
"forget His Smokes". I set up about 10 or 12 of these smokes just for him. Sure enuf, here he comes and he tried one, didn't say much and chained another. Few minutes later he excused himself, went home and got his own. Never bummed another at my folks place. I laughed at that

That's funny JL.

When I was in STL I had 2 offices, one out in the burbs and one in a high rise that you could look down on the Edwards Jones Dome or Busch stadium. We went thru a merger and got a new boss. Real winner he was, some guys wanted to drop him off in East STL.

We walked to lunch on his 2nd trip to STL from the coast. We went by a string of panhandlers, give me, give me money. I was in the middle of the pack of city managers, the ones in front kept walking, 3 or 4 bums came up to me, money, money. I said the guy at the end of the line is loaded, buying us lunch and has tons of money. They encircled him and kept demanding money. He pushed thru and said wow wonder why they mobbed me. I knew why.

It seems that the military brings out mooches, I was sent on a 6 month temporary duty. My income for the entire time I was on station was my TDY pay. I bought my meals, laundry, daily needs and smokes and maybe a couple of beers on the weekend. One of the guys sent TDY to work on the team was a mooch from day one. He was single on a meal card so he didn't have to buy his chow. He was always trying to bum a smoke. After about a week of his bumming, I said to him I would sell him a smoke for a nickel. The other guys in the team started doing the same thing, after a couple days of selling this guy smokes he showed up with his own pack. On the our down time we would hit the club. I made it clear that I could not afford to buy rounds. One of the crew had more money for some reason and would drink a couple of beers and would want to buy rounds for the table. I would drink one thank him and make my exit. I got lucky one week and got picked for a TDY to the Philippines. Because the per Diem was higher I got a weeks of full per diem. I used the money to take the team for burgers and beer at the club. I got lucky and wanted to share and pay back some of the guys.

Then there is my brother-in-law the mooch. Did I tell you about my brother in law the freeloader? You can't top my brother in law when it comes to living off the efforts of others - he makes a procurer look like a hard working, honest citizen. Did I tell you about my brother in law? Dates women, borrows money to woo them, claims to be self employed and rich, marries them and sponges from them until the divorce. I'm sure the girlfriends are often sent to the cleaners too. No Don Juan. A 400 pound 5'5" who confesses to ED and has a heart catheter and pacemaker that we all paid for. sadly, some women will fall for any man who appears decent. I lost count at 5 divorces.

For a VERY long time there was a lady who worked the car parks around Vegas, especially at the utility HQs. She had a very nice camper van in which to count her loot.

Recently, there was a panhandler who thought it was cute to throw rocks at the cars waiting at a light at the end of a freeway off ramp in North Las Vegas. Not a smart move in that part of town. I think the cops moved him on before somebody just up and killed him.

I got this kid, that use to our church. He's got some serious mental issues "similar to down syndrome" only not nearly so severe. He's 100% disabled and lives with his mother. God only knows, what happens with the monthly disability check.

I can't get on Facebook without this kid "hitting me up for money"! For a while, it was every day! I was beginning to feel like he does nothing, but sit in front of a computer, and just wait for me to sign on.

Well one day he tells me that his mothers car is about to be repossessed. So he asks me for $200. When I tell him that I can only come up with $100, He says "Thanks anyway". So he didn't get squat from me, and I spent the $100 getting my S&W model 36's hammer replaced.

Last week, he hit me up for $20, for gas money, at 9:00 pm. I feel kinda sorry for the kid, and told him to get with me tomorrow "while I'm on duty".
The next day I got "slammed" with calls for assistance! I barely had time enough to breath. This kid practically "Blew up my telephone" It was so bad that, he called me via instant messenger three times, while I was on a single burglary call! I texted him "look, I'm very busy. I'll call you when I get a break". It didn't help, He still continued to pester me, until I snapped!

I finally got so fed up, that I sent him this message "I'm sorry, I can't give or loan you any money. Don't call me any more!" Only then, did he stop calling.

My wife told me to never-ever, give him a dime! Because, once you start, He'll pester you forever! Besides that, his family gets a hefty sum every month for his disability, that they drink, smoke, and generally waist, as soon as they get.

I've said it before, so please forgive me being repetious,
Give what and when you can, but don't enable a professional mooch; I'll Give to someone begging in front of a liquor store----always keep in mind that you never know when an angel has been sent to test you.

I know a guy that used to show up and ask for a beer. that usually turned into whatever you had until it was gone.

He was at another friends place drinking freebies when I had to go out to my truck. I walked past his truck and noticed his cooler in the back. The damn thing was sweating so I opened it up. It was full.

I brought the cooler around to the garage. He didn't notice at first but figured it out after a while. He didn't say a thing. He knew he'd get his butt kicked by that crowd.

He quit coming around after that. I say GOOD RIDDANCE.

I can safely say that I never knew people like this. No one of my friends acts this way, no family that I'm aware of. ...no one.

When at a bar with friends someone pays. Sometimes everyone chips in, sometimes it's one guy. Doesn't matter because sooner or later you'll cover a tab too. Everything goes on one bill, no one counts who had what and how many. If at someone's house, the smokes usually get tossed into a pile eventually, cause it's a pain to keep them in your pocket. No one cares who smokes who's cigs.

My wife's company occupies 3 floors of the LaClede Gas Building. I will occasionally meet her and some other good friends of hers for lunch. It's amazing how acclimated these ladies are to their surroundings. They literally take turns watching me.

My wife and I were walking through a city park and came across a homeless guy nodding off on a park bench after a cold night out. He did not look too good. My wife asked him if he had anything to eat that day. He had had nothing. We told him to wait there and we went across the street and bought him a wonder roast chicken, a loaf of good bread, and a couple of apples. We took the food back to him and he looked in the bag and thanked us profusely. I saw a pin on his coat so asked if he had been in the service. He proudly said "Yessir, airborne". We went on our way and stopped to talk to an aquaintance we ran into about a hundred yards away. A few minutes later I loved back at the homeless guy and he was sharing his chicken with two other guys. Those guys were really hungry.
Due to circumstances, I was never in the Service but it breaks my heart to see those that served hungry and sleeping on the streets. The guy was still proud of having served his country and was willing to share what little he had with others in need.
God bless him.

I thought I'd seen low life before when we saw people stealing from the Goodwill drop box (yes, we called law enforcement and reported it), but I was really disgusted last week at our church's annual garage sale. Church members kindly donate their property for sale at this event, and the proceeds are used for our youth ministry program. Because of a shortage of space at the church, they have been operating the garage sale on a donation basis only. There aren't any price tags on anything, and people are just asked to make a donation for anything they take. There were people who loaded their cars five or six times and never left a nickel. One guy loaded his truck three times, and when he was reminded that this was a charity event to raise funds for the youth ministry, he grudgingly handed over a $1, and then asked if we could make change. Sheesh.

Regards,

Dave

These stories remind me of my friend Tom.Tom would get bored and now and then, and call me up wanting to go to dinner. Usually when Tom wanted dinner--I would wind up always paying for part of his meal:::::::::because he """forgot""" to bring enough money with him::::: AND--I would have to be the one to always pay the full tip for both of us--in order to keep from being humiliated in front of the waitress. Oh,Tom would leave a "'tip"" for good service--usually a nickle or a quarter at best--when I always left at eat a half a sawbuck. One time, I left a sawbuck tip for the lady waiting on us at one of those "Chicken wings" joints. I got up to go wash hands-came back and saw three ones on the table.I saw Tom waking out the door.May I was pissed.I dug out another five--all I had left in cash--then dashed for the door

I caught Tom outside and asked: "What happened to that ten dollar bill I left for a tip?". Tom said: "I thought ten was too much so I changed it out for the ones and figured you would let me keep the rest for gas.""You thought wrong. I said, dont ever--touch any money Ieave on a table again."" I went back in--gave the waitress that ten and explained what happened.

Needless to say,I never went out to dinner with Tom again. We had along a mutual female friend--Maryjane. Mary was so humiliated too at what Tom did. End of point--Tom now dines alone unless he is with his mother--who is the all time pro--at mooching. His entire family is that way.

I would differentiate between someone who is homeless, even an out and out bum, and someone who is simply a parasite. Maybe for whatever reason all a bum can do is beg, and if honest about it, then that is fair. I will give what I have. This goes back to ancient times, and I think the Old Testament mentions leaving a tenth of the product of a field for those who need it, suggesting ancient roots to charity.

Parasites, aka mooches, tend to pretend to be a friend. In some cases they will act like they are doing you a favor by their behavior.

The late Realtor Bob was a parasite, but he was an entertaining one. The occasional free meal bought his amusing digressions. Maybe that was not so much parasitism after all, as a trade of sorts. For all that, if he pushed his luck too much, he got the steak that looked a little off and had been dropped on the floor. Shrug.

I have not smoked store bought cigarettes socially since college when Chesterfields were $1.69 a pack. A fine smoke, I still miss. But few people could stand a full length unfiltered cigarette, those who could I was happy enough to let have one.

I don't recall anyone ever asking me for a bowl of pipe tobacco. I suppose if they did, I would share, the nominal cost being out weighed but getting an opinion on my blend.

If I ever decided to try smoking?--it would have to be with a pipe. I like the smell of some pipe tobacco--like the cherry flavored.

Around the Phoenix area there seems to be a person with a sign on every other corner, but, one afternoon as I was coming out of my favorite barbeque place , a lady walked right up to me and said "you got twenty dollars?" Me thinking huh? I asked for what? she said " anything you want". ran away very quickly, she didn't even have a sign

Went on a call near Christmas where a Christmas tree was stolen from a residence. I followed the trail, and thought I had found the thief, but looking at his place, he was dirt poor, I went back to the residence from where the tree had been stolen, and gave the family enough money to buy another, better tree.

Another time I saw a guy standing by the on ramp to the Turnpike waiting, hopefully, for a someone to give him a ride. It was cold and he looked hungry. I went to a fast food place and got him several burgers, some fries, and a large coffee. Took the food to him and when I asked him to come to the Cruiser, he seemed apprehensive. When I handed him the bag, he was very appreciative.

There was a Vet in town who had mental problems, but I always got along with him. He had asked me for money a few times, and every time, he made sure to pay me back as soon as he could. I usually gave him $10.00 or $20.00 on occasion and told him he didn't need to pay me back. He was always friendly and talked to me when he saw me. Don't know what happened to him as I lost touch after retiring.

Back in my youth when I still smoked, I worked with a bunch of guys who were all cigarette moochers. Now this was when I was in the Army and you could buy a pack of cigarettes for $0.25 - yeah, they still mooched. I thought I'd fix that problem by switching to a pipe. This worked for a while until another guy bought a pipe so he could mooch pipe tobacco from me.

I thought I'd fix him by taking the last couple of bowls of tobacco left in the bottom of the pouch and mixing it with bits of cut up rubber bands before I "gifted" him the rest of the pouch. Well, ol' moochy proceeded to light up and was completely oblivious to the noxious clouds of burning rubber smoke he was putting out. It was so bad that he cleared the office. When my boss found out what I did he made me apologize to moochy AND I had to buy him a pouch of real pipe tobacco. The upside was that the boss had an "all hands" meeting and said there was to be no more mooching by anyone as it had a detrimental effect on morale. Smart guy, and a good boss.

Regards,

Dave

Actually, what I did was give him my best smile, and I said: "And may the light of the Lord shine on you as well." The look on his face was priceless - well it was worth at least a buck.
