WHO FEARS DEATH ?
Without getting into theology-----which would be a good discussion----does anyone here have fear of dying ?

Been on borrowed time for years, the only thing that scares me is a long drawn out illness before I die. Right or wrong it is too late to back up now.

Fear of death is normal. It's what makes us human.

Sort of
I don't fear death itself but rather the manner in which I might have to check out. I'd prefer natural causes over violent death.
This question could easily become mired, or drift into a forbidden topic.
My feeling is that being dead is no different than what it was like before we were born. We came from non-existence and we return to non-existence. But, if there is indeed an afterlife, it means that either we get to see deceased friends and family and exist happily ever after or we are gone and have no knowledge or remorse over our demise, a good outcome either way.

As a cancer guy, no one is quite sure why I am still alive. But if I actually die of what ails me, it will be long and brutally painful, so I'll take something else if it takes me first.

Not afraid of death but I am afraid of pain .
Even worse I'm afraid of being hurt to a point of not being able to care for myself or loved ones

Doctors have told me that I'm on the short list.
The reason I'm not afraid IS theological.

One of my customers died when he was 92 years old. He told me a week later that he was standing on the edge of the world, looking into space, just like the young man in the Jeep commercial (actually a Land Rover LR3 commercial). He did not see a bright light, was not afraid, nor felt any sense of doom. He was aware of being unsteady on his feet so he backed away from the edge. When he backed up he came to and had just been pronounced dead.
This man lived nearly four more years before he did pass away in his sleep.

A few years ago my neurologist gave me an initial diagnosis of ALS. I knew what that meant and I knew it meant a 1 to 2 year sentence of a slow miserable death, locked in my body.
I accepted that, I was ready. It was an odd feeling.
My doctor was taken aback by my calm acceptance.
Still, it was a great relief to find out that my condition only affected my lower motor nerves, I may be as bad as I'm gonna get and I'll still live a normal life span.

I don't think I'm afraid of dying. In-fact death is just the start of the next great adventure. I sure hope when it's my time, I have the sense and good graces not to make a long drawn out production of. I can be somewhat of a drama queen at times

I have things to do. Sort of make things right so to speak.
After that, I'm good.
I only hope I have the time.
I do fear suffering and don't wish to put that on anyone I care about.
I just had my will made.
I'm only 55 but I lost my wife 8 months ago. No kids. If I don't cover my assets all could mean nothing to who might get things other than more $$$.
I want to see things go to those that appreciate them for what they are. I have nice stuff.
I ain't gonna let my things go to the pawn shop. Or the bum.

I'll live and die with these words
"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."
Chief Tecumseh (Crouching Tiger) Shawnee Nation 1768-1813

I would willingly die for the right cause (family, country, God), but I'm not particularly looking to check out any time soon. I don't fear death, but I want to make sure I've done all that is possible to provide for my family when I'm gone.

Heart attack back in 2000. I was right on the edge of checkin' out.
I was scared of the doctors, nurses, the ER and just about everything else, but it suddenly dawned on me that I wasn't afraid to die. Weird how something like that messes with your head.
So, afraid to die, nope. But I sure don't want to.

Years ago I was all of 19 years old. I was in a mortar attack; my body was hit by the blast and a bunch of shrapnel. I was told I was knocked out. I was dead, but send back. So I am not afraid of death I am just not ready. I just want to go quick. I don't know what is on the other side but it will be fine.

Not afraid to die. God is on the other side. Just want to stay here as long as possible and enjoy the good things he created for us.

Just been through a bout of lung cancer, now I'm suppose to be cancer free? Had three heart attacks and one should have killed me? I'm still here, and for what reason I don't know. Must of done something right?
I guess being on the edge several times now, what shall be will be! Am I afraid no not really but I'm not ready!
When my Doctor who is a close friend called me with my cancer biopsy he was having a hard time telling me I had cancer, I just ask him, Well Ed what's it going to be, I got cancer, now is it cure able or am I looking for a funeral director? after a brief silence he responded your curable!
I just want to go to sleep some night and not wake up, now that's all I ask!

Not at all. I've done some crazy stuff and seen the elephant a few times, I sometimes marvel that I made it along this far.

No fear of death. I do pray my death is meaningful in some way. I hope I get to accomplish my lists. I hope I am missed.

Afraid? No
Afraid? No. But I'm not ready to go. Nature has a way of telling you that you are finished regardless of how you feel about it.
PS I hope it's peaceful and easy.

Fear is an interesting word. I don't know if I'm afraid to die. I probably fear the loss of my loved ones more than I fear my own death. I know there is more, and I hope I have done enough good in this life to have a good next life.

Fear dying? No.
It's the where, when and how.
But don't think about that much either..
That would be a waste of time and live.

I'm kind of a talker. Well, not 'kind of'. I downright talk too much. So when I was writing my will I put in there that I wanted my tombstone to read; "He finally shut up." But when I told my wife, she hated that so I changed it.
Afraid? No. But it DOES make me nervous. Not in the 'is that strange dog going to bite me?' sense, but...
You get the idea.

No fear of death. I know who my Lord and Savior is. I'm ready when he is. Ripped my rotator cuff of the bone (right shoulder). Had surgery Veterans day, Nov. 11, 2014. This Friday I will finish six months of physical therapy. I have lung disease (never smoked) they found a growth in my lower left lung. Holding pattern right now. I have four nephews and a son that severed. My son the Marines, two nephews Marines, two nephews Army. Two are now LEO'S. One Marine is a Naval Academy graduate. Three of them did Iraq. One did Afghanistan. One did two Iraq and two Afghanistan (career Army, SFC). All have received a 1911 and some S&W's. Four have received battle rifles. I refuse to call them "assault weapons". What's in the safe is marked with their names. Very proud of them and their service. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

No fear at all...I have at least 16 of my very best friends who have gone before me and they are waiting at the Bridge to show me the way. They all will have tennis balls or sticks or maybe an old sock. They will want to play and jump up and slobber all over me when I show up. It will be the best day of my life.

At ninety you are kind of expecting it. I just don't want it to drag out over a long period of time. My daughter and grandson know my wishes and I have signed all the papers that I can to keep that from happening and now it's up to God.

I am not. Never have been. Ready when HE is. Just hope it's the quick deal however it happens. However it happens I'll do almost anything to die as a free man...

Afraid of dying? No. Afraid of being the last one to die? Absolutely!

I'm not afraid of dying. I expect it'll be unpleasant and even painful but I'm kind of used to unpleasantness and pain. I am afraid however of being dead. We will all find out for sure one way or another which is what but no one that has already found out is able to come back and tell the rest of us what to expect, and uncertainty is not my long suit.

Many men die before their wives. The reason is that they want to.

Tecumseh was an amazing man. His history is fascinating.
For four years the best pulmonology firm in town told me I had an untreatable lung disease with an average life expectancy of 2.4 years. Two years ago they told me they could no longer find any trace of the pulmonary fibrosis, just a lot of bronchiectasis and COPD. I don't know if it was a miracle or a missed diagnosis, and don't care. Either way seems pretty miraculous to me.
I don't know that I'm afraid to die. I am very fearful of incapacitation, especially the loss of my mental faculties. A nice massive heart attack would be preferable. Or going like my dad did: a massive abdominal aortal aneurysm blew out and he was gone in seconds. No pain, just gone.
