So I have a few guns for sale
On a few different forums. I get a P.M. from a guy interested in my S&W 64, wanting to know what "options" it had, as there was no dash number.
I tried to explain that dash numbers denoted changes, not options. He isn't buying that, as he carried this same gun, but with a blue finish and adjustable sights in the Air Force.
I snapped a photo of the engineering and production changes for the S&W 64 on page 225 of the SCSW, edition 3, and sent it to him, stating the Book could explain the changes more precisely than I could to a newbie. He flipped out on me and called me names, and promised he would leave negative feedback for me as I was rude, obnoxious, and condescending. Huh? All I did was answer his questions as briefly as possible in a way I thought would work best for someone with little knowledge of the subject.
I directed him to this site, where there are hundreds of people with way more knowledge of S&W products than I have.
You folks can thank me later.

Sounds like a blessing in disguise. Can you imagine the problems you might have had if you had actually done business with this character?

Options? How about the fold-out scissors and collapsible steak knife? Corkscrew? Or, if it is a really good M64, the little magnifying glass under the front sight?

I think that's the M-64-CH version, only available from Swissman on this board. He sends a basic M-64 to a company in Ibach-Schwyz to have the custom touches added. It's only sold to stocking dealers with a minimum order of 500 pieces.
Now, who knows what the CH suffix means? You won't win a gun if you get this right, but I may buy you a Lindt & Sprungli chocolate bar if we ever meet in person.

Of course, he's basically right. These were Model 15's, all of which I saw in the USAF having the wide target hammer and trigger.
The only real option in the actual M-64 were either a std. or heavy barrel. The heavy barrel was soon the only one offered. However, the stainless hammer and trigger were eventually replaced by flash-chromed std. steel parts. This was to provide a harder surface that wouldn't gall and which wore better.
I had a M-64 that was uncannily accurate. They'll shoot every bit as well as their target guns, if the fixed sights are "on."

Colby,
Aren't we supposed to be rude and obnoxious?
My Grandchildren call me "Grumpa"! I wish I was dealing with that "Pilgrim",compared to me, he would have thought you were most gracious and a true gentleman

I deal with idiots on armslist and auction sites like gunbroker all the time. Don't take it personal. I'm sure he will buy something over priced and it will bite him.
This site has been the best as far as dealing with knowledgable individuals who are honest and quick to pay.

The problem must have been me...
Too bad he was highly confused because he had something I would of taken in trade. I reckon that ship has sailed.

You called him a newbie and pricked his pride. Simply stating what you "thought" the dash meant may have worked better. Just telling him how it was equipped (for lack of a better term) and let him be the "expert" may have worked out better. I have found that people like this can be a very easy and profitable customer by letting them be smarter than me.
If you want to do business with him and aren't worried about feedback, apologize if you offended him and make an offer.

Look at it this way, Colby: idiots like that have Karma (which I am a staunch believer in) coming to them when they treat nice, upstanding people in the manner you described. Rest assured Karma will bite him in the arse. You won't see it happen (probably), but know it will come to him!!

Yes he did.
I didn't actually call him a "newbie"; I asked if he were familiar with S&W revolvers. He never stated his age, a lot of young people do not know much about revolvers. It was a valid question.

He had a Remington 700 VLS in 7mm/08, something I have wanted for years. I have a CZ 527 Varmint .223, and Remington 700 HB Varmints in .223, .22/250, and .308 in various configurations. I really don't NEED another one.
I meant no offense to him at all.

"Apologize if you offended him"?
I wouldn't. He was churlish as well as ignorant. I fail to see how you did anything offensive. But then I am not a nice man.
You'll find other good trades, with reasonable people.

My experience with internet gun trader/sales sites is that rudeness and stupidity are all too common. I think the medium allows some to feel they are able to display their ignorance and lack of social skills with impunity.

I do not need the Internet to show my ignorance! Just ask my wife. I been doing a fine job without it for years.

Some people mis-interpret written words that, had they been spoken, likely would not of bothered them at all.

You left off the "n" at the end. Confoederation Helvetica.
The Helvetii were the tribes through whom Julius Caesar fought his way to conquer Gaul. Later, these tribes formed a confederation to become the modern Swiss nation.
This is why you see those CH bumper stickers on Swiss-driven cars here.
BTW, a neighbor once had a couple of Swiss guys in their 20's as guests. They had quite limited English, and my French and German barely managed, but we conversed briefly. They confirmed that I had the right knife in mind as the official one, but both had left theirs at home with the rest of their militia gear. But both had the commercial red-handled items, one a Spartan and the other had either an Executive or similar model.
A survey among the Swiss people confirmed the Swiss Army knife as the best known representation of the nation, the one that foreigners would know about. I suppose that Swiss cheese was runner-up.
But their chocolate is also famous. If you can find the Lindt & Sprungli bars, I highly recommend the orange-filled bars or those with hazelnuts.
But I've even seen Swiss chocolate made in the shape of Swiss Army knives.

You know, I've been wondering if by "options", he may have meant like target sights, hammer and trigger, stocks, etc.
Of course, if he wanted those, the Model 67 would be his goal. And it'd be the stainless version of the M-15 that he carried in the USAF. I've never seen any of those on a M-64, other than replacement grips. I think the only likely options were std. or heavy bbl.
I just put Pachmayr Presentation grips on mine and put orange nail polish on the front sight. That's all it needed for its intended role.

I think he wanted target stocks/hammer/trigger, AS, RR, WO and the blue finish. He has not left any negative comments so far. I also pointed out there was another one for sale on this forum.

Just imagine what he would have done when he discovered that you removed the safety!!!!!!!
Reminds of the "expert" who was educating me about the new Marlin bolt action rifle in .30& that used AR15 magazines last month. Yikes!
