"Laketime" entry is pretty much how I feel. I don't frequent many other of the gun forums except this one. There's a reason for that. The Colt forum is just too small. At least it seems like. The topic page is ok but not exactly what helps me. Not really criticizing that particular one but it is not like this one...(obviously)... The Ruger forum is like the Colt forum for me. The one mrchuck speaks of is one that I haven't visited in over a year. I got just a little filled up with the rudeness of many of its members, the sycophant nature of many members and the rather over-the-top opinions of the owner. Now, having said that, IT IS HIS FORUM and he has the right. He invited many members to exit if the "conversations" were not something to their liking. Reading some of the entries and the snotty responses and back and forth bickering, the snide and disrespectful nature of many members and, as said, rudeness of many members put me off and I left. No regrets.

Here, there seems to be none of that. Members here seem to be much more in control of themselves, the keyboard and their human nature. There is little controversy in spite of controversial subjects. Members are not outwardly rude to one another and the tone is consistently civil and free of the rancor that is very noticeable on other forums.

The reason(s)? Can't really say. Just that it is what it is and I like it and that is why this site is visited by me every day, and sometimes several times per day.... Example: A few day ago, I made an entry in the Historical section about General Patton's sidearms. I made a mistake which was pointed out by one of the members. That member simply noted that I was wrong on one point of the barrel length of Patton's SAA. The correct length was noted (which is correct) and the discussion moved forward. There were no insults, no nasty private messages, just facts and on-going discussion. That is what these internet sites are supposed to be about. Unfortunately, the anonymity of the net permits some persons to be idiots, as has been pointed out.... But, not here. Which makes this site my favorite. Now, I need to get off my soapbox and contribute some of my spendable income to this site.

The difference here is that this a gun specific forum where you don't get **** for owning an S&W. I stay away from the ultra 2A and Anti forums where rants and idiocy run rampant. I am also hesitant to take advice from people that would have to be at least 200 years old to know and have done all the things they have.

I started the internet and gun forum thing in about '94 with Prodigy as the ISP. Seems like it had a catchy name like "Prodigy Gun Forum". Things have changed on the intrerweb, and not for the better. Except for the porn.

Just had to add my 2 cents worth. As most know I am fighting a form of cancer and haven't been on as much as I would like, having said that, my doctors have said it would be a good idea for me to get on a support group....I said "are you kidding me, I am already on the greatest support group a guy could wish for, Smith-Wesson Forum! Always there when you need them, good advise, lots of knowledge and of course a kick in pants when needed. Thank you all! By the way, doing well to chemo and radiation, went ahead and joined the ranks of the retired so I now have way too much time on my hands to reload and go to the range, spread cheer and drink the free coffee which by the way is way overpriced!

Ron, you just started to figure that out. Other than being a Seahawks I thought you were a fairly sharp guy

P.s. It's not just the Internet. All the internet does is allow them to amass in one central location.

I know that some think we are just a bunch of goofy dolts (and they may very well be correct), but I have found camaraderie in the drift thread that is a source a real encouragement through some difficult times. One person's idiocy may be another person's "support group." Cancer sucks. Good friends help.

I sure hope everything works out for you, and you come out stronger when you beat cancer. Prayers for you. Keep us posted. You aren't alone.

Not admitting one is an idiot is like buying a car. Everybody thinks they got a great deal. OK, that was kind of stupid

I once saw an interview with Jay Leno who was asked about his "Jay walking" segment. The interviewer asked Jay how many people did they have to interview to get the few that were aired, showing grossly ignorant Californians. Jay answered that it was scary how few they had to do. For six funny segments, maybe eight or ten interviews. And more recently, I read that after the death of Supreme Court Justice Scalia, college students were polled and asked how many members of the Supreme Court they could name. An amazingly high percentage could not name any, and of those students who gave a name, about 20% said "Judge Judy". I rest my case.

Sad to say the real idiots can't figure out how to get on the internet. You are seeing the upper crust of the idiot category. And sadly as someone already pointed out their vote counts as much as yours.

Sites populated by the more truculent 2A and open carry types are like bad TV. Civil debate or argument is impossible. Change the channel.

I've visited a few myself and find this one to be the best by far. The Glock forums can get pretty rude IMO.

Glock makes a good gun, dependable, accurate, and pretty much soulless. Some Glock owners actually believe Gastons propaganda. Some treat Glock as a religion, and those are the ones who seem to frequent their forum.

I just recently bought my first Glock, and joined their forum. So far I've found them as friendly as here. Part of the worship of Glocks seems to be their legendary reliability. I was swayed by a video on Hitchcock45 where he said the only gun he would consider as a carry gun without ever firing it, right out of the box, is a Glock. Pretty powerful endorsement. As to soulless, I think they are no more or less than any gun.

Glocks may be soul-less, but IMO they have as much panache and style as a brick. If all you want are functional tools they fit the bill very well.

If you want style AND quality, then S&W is for you.
