Default I was going to PM Cajun.....

I was going to PM Cajun Lawyer about this, but I'd like to hear what the story is all over the country.

We used to have super dense growths of Spanish Moss all over SC here. In my local, about 30-40 years ago it started dying off here until there was none left. I didn't hang out at the rivers, creeks and bayous all that time, but you used to see it everywhere. It gave a sign a few years ago that it was coming back around here, but I don't think it took off and I haven't noticed it in a while.

How is the Spanish Moss growth in the rest of the country? Is anybody else seeing this blight or whatever it is? I think the stuff is gorgeous and I really miss seeing it in our locale.

I suspect pollution may be the problem, but there wasn't a problem through the 60's when there were LOTS of it, everywhere.

I had to Google that. I don't know if Pa has it but I'm not a horticulturalist.

The way I look at it is if it's woof it's a tree. If it's smaller than a tree it's a bush. Anything smaller is grass!

Virginia is about the northern limit but there may be some in southern PA.

I was hoping Caj could look into the controversial Moss Laws of 1894.

Do you know what the closest relative to Spanish moss is???

The pineapple.

Spanish moss is not moss, but a flowering plant.

Do NOT wipe with Spanish Moss. The redbugs are murder.

I noticed that it did diminish in the 70's, but I see more of it today.

You might like this.

In the 1800's it was used to stuff mattresses. I do remember the redbugs.

I haven't seen any in Eastern PA. However, I also have terrible allergies and tend to avoid the outdoors during the Spring. My girlfriend lives in South NJ, and I haven't seen any down there either.

What Louisiana Joe posted.
Down here it's chock full in some places and non existent in others. I was always told it was the polloution. Last summer I was on a moss craze and after a storm I picked up a lot of it on the ground and tried to populate my two live oaks in the back yard. Well, the pieces I got to stay in the tree are still thee but that's about it. I don't know how lokg it takes to spread. Same thing with the resurrection fern-I'm trying desparately to get it to colonize my oaks as I really like it when it is green.

I've never seen any in Virginia I don't believe. Maybe down around Back Bay, but I've only been there once.

My wife remembers it from when she lived in Louisiana but that was years ago.
