Default Security Window Film

Aloha,

Have those of you who live in rural areas and have problems with trespassers and the like, ever considered the use of security window film?

Some of which are almost bullet proof.

I have seen it demonstrated locally for home & car.

The only catch is that it must be applied Edge to Edge and the frame must be strong enough to not let the entire sheet pop in under impact.

3M? Safety & Security Window Films - Safety and security window film for commercial, industrial - 3M US

It also requires a special adhesive to hold the glass to the frame.

Of course this goes with improved doors, door frames, locks, etc.

Some of the films have had a poor record in areas with high UV exposure, some scratch and all are hard to replace or remove if needed. Working as an engineer on a military installation film has been our last choice for fragment retention caused by blasts.

The mirror film that is applied to curtail sunlight coming through a window works in reverse at night, as it is brighter in the house than outside and it becomes a one-way mirror into the home. Always pull your curtains at night, so no one can see your activities or place you in the house.

With the newer type of double paned vinyl windows, the entire insulated glass unit is sealed into each sash by glazing beads inside and out. The film is applied to the inside glass pane. An impact will not be able to extract the entire pane out from the glazing bead since it goes into the sash about a half inch and around the entire perimeter . No special adhesive would be required on these types of windows.

In the south, these windows also have low-e glass which eliminates most of the UV light and the damage associated with it.
