Looks to me that they were expecting trouble. I think the gang never showed up & I don't blame them.

Yeah there's something about looking down the barrel of a Thompson that really doesn't appeal to me either.

That was obviously before the "no finger in the trigger guard" rule

So he broke out using a fake gun he fashioned and was driven by a fellow inmate right past all those armed men in the sheriff's V-8 Ford.

I think both do not have fingers through the trigger guard. Their trigger fingers are not extended along the side of the guard, like we do today, but they're not in the guard either.

I think that back then they were taught not to pull the trigger before they meant to.

If you choose a higher zoom level you will see that neither man has their trigger finger on the trigger.

Some believed Dillinger had help, that 'the fix was in," but there's no denying that he was a very daring, nervy individual.

Correct. If you zoom in you can see their trigger fingers are behind the trigger guards

it's a shame he wasn't killed long before died... He was a murderous psychopathic thug who thought only of himself.. The stinking movie folks have glamorized him & turned him into their version of a hero...

Wondering how long it is before we see Hollywood do similar movies on Saddam, both of his murderous sons & Osama bin Laden & Khaddaffy

Me think it is a posed picture.
Nervy----Hummmmm, what was there to loose ?
By the way, he conned his way into their confidence.

I hope you don't really believe that.

Actually in Dillinger's time much of the country had good reasons to hate and distrust the banks, and Dillinger especially was regarded, wrongly, as a bit of a Robin Hood and charming rogue.

On the other hand, I got up and walked out of the theater twenty minutes into the Beatty-Dunaway "Bonnie & Clyde", which glorified and prettied up two cheap, unattractive punks one of whom, Barrow, was a murderous psychopath.

But those other guys? Just try to get money to produce a movie making Osama, Saddam or Gaddhafi look like glamorous, lovable rascals. Or try selling tickets to it if somebody was bloody stupid enough to bankroll it. And good luck finding an actor who wanted to kill his career by playing bin Laden that way.

Doesn't compute.

There's a bloodthirsty old dictator on an island in the Caribbean who's a beloved hero to many in Hollywood. And to some in Washington, too, apparently.

John Dillinger was an outlaw.

He live as an outlaw and died as an outlaw.

The Tommy gun and the pump shotgun are good tools.
