Did you ever buy a gun..
and find out you not sure you like it? I bought a S & W model 66 combat magnum 4 3/4 inch barrel. I don't like the feel of the grip, trigger is still heavy in double action, the hammer thumb is small. while it has good sights an are adjustable (rear sight) it still shoots low right. I have a 4 inch 686 and really like it. It has a smooth trigger both single and double action. The 66 has about 1000 rounds threw it so I feel I have given it a honest try.
On the other hand I bought a Ubriti 45 colt clone in 357/38 I didn't expect it to be much more then some thing to plink with; I was surprised, the fit and finish are very good, really impressed with the trigger, is flat and wider, not alike the 45 colt clone I have; that trigger is like a heavy wire.
the trigger pull is about 2 pounds, shoots to point of aim from a rest, group 1/2 inch looked like the third shoot was stacked on top of the first two shoots this was at 15 yards; offhand it opened up to a 1 1/2 inch group. I was shooting 3 shots test with home loaded 38spl.
I am thinking of taking the model 66 to the next Gun and Knife Show and trade or sell it.
anyone else have a problem similar to this?

I know this is blasphemy, but I didn't like the M&P 9 after I got it. Even after installing the Apex competition parts I wasn't too thrilled. I sold it to a buddy who loves it, so I'm glad he is happy. I eventually replaced it with a Sig P320 Carry. I'm much happier.
I also bought an AR-15 from a buddy a few years ago. It was a last minute deal because his NG unit was shipping off to Kuwait and he wanted to take his then girlfriend on a last minute vacation. It sat in my gun locker for 2 years until I sold it to fund a Sig P229. That was another good move on my part. The guy I sold it to got an AR package at a great price and was happy, and I was finally able to get a Sig P229 that I wanted for a very long time.

In the olden days I the choice of carrying my 686 are the City issue 66. I kept my 686. I now own one of the 66 PD marked weapons. It's not bad but my old 686 is just better. But I shoot high rightwith both. Many hours of training trying to change that. We finally just decided to aim low left. All is fine. Biggest part of problem the other is me the rest is the gun!

Yep... Ruger P85, Mini-14, S&W Bodyguard 380. The latter is heinous... tiny, hard to grip, squinty sights, nuisance to clean, eats batteries (laser) like candy. Already went back to Springfield once, now banished to the safe. Pity, that; I liked the concept, but tiny guns are not good for me. Bought a Sig 938 a couple weeks ago; far superior in all respects. (given the price, should be...but you often do get what you pay for.)

A few years ago I was on a quest to find the perfect Country
Western Loafing Pistol in 22 Lr. Buying mostly the 32 frame
size 22 semi autos with adjustable sights. I bought all kinds
most were either novelties or prone to jams or breakage. Never
found a good one. Ended up with S&W 422, a bit bigger than
I was looking for but it works flawlessly and is accurate.

Colt M4 or any AR platform.
Just not an AR guy I guess.
Still have the Colt....likely married
to it since Walmart was selling them for about
Three dollars last week or so.

Such a gun does exist. The Beretta 70s was made with adjustable sights for a while back in the 70s. It came with awful thumbrest grips that can be replaced with plain grips from earlier models. This size of 22lr Beretta is so accurate and reliable that the Israeli operatives use it.
They can still be found, but tend to be a bit spendy.

Standard barrel lengths for the Model 66 included 2.5", 3" (moderately rare), 4", and 6".
If you have a Model 66 with a factory-installed 4-3/4" barrel it would be a very rare and probably very valuable find.

Yeah I had a few but most were impulse buys. An AMT Backup in .45acp and NAA Guardian in .380 acp come to mind.
I have both a model 66 and 686 snubs and find both comfortable guns to shoot. You might want to try other grips and maybe an action job on your 66 before giving up on it.

Sounds like this could be new mfg, maybe? Read the bbls are 1/4" inch longer to allow sales in Canada. I've heard of balky actions in these, but in other models as well. Would an appraisal by a gunsmith be in order?

P.S. To keep on-thread, Glock 23 Gen 4. Can't get 100 rounds out of it without some type of jam. Tired of hearing I'm holding it wrong. It's gotta go.

I wanted a .45 so one day at the LGS it just so happened he had just taken in trade a CS45. I took a look at it, examined and handled it and I bought it!
My son and I took it to the range twice, I shot it and couldn't stand it! It was too clunky, too fat gripped? I didn't like it but my son did! So I gave it to him as a birthday present!
I eventually got it back though in the form of a Glock 33, turned out he really ended up not liking it either! But we both do like the Glock!

Yeah, OP is surely talking about the new production 66 with 4.25" barrel. My 69 trigger is nowhere near as nice as my 686. If I had a 66, and it felt very similar to my 69, I'd be unhappy when comparing it to my 686.
But I still love my 69. I enjoy shooting it more than my 6.5" 29-10 despite the latter's better trigger.
I haven't bought but a fraction of guns compared to many here, but I am not unhappy with any I've bought. I rarely shoot my Walther P22, but the 22 ammo shortage is mostly to blame; however, I wouldn't buy it if I had it to do over again.

I bought a Glock 21 and after the second magazine, I packed it up and took it back to the gun shop and used it a down payment on a SIG 220. Best deal I ever made! I liked the SIG 220 so much, I now have three of them: One in my truck, one by the bed and one in my workshop.

I brought up the subject of guns when chatting with Sabrina yesterday. Sabrina said she would love target-shooting. Hopefully I'll have her with me at a range soon. I'm looking forwards to instructing her. She mentioned being afraid of them but I told her I'd start her out on a .22.

I had an open bolt Mac 10 in .45, semi auto. Looked cool, but it was nothing but a bullet hose. Couldn't hit a target at 25 feet with it. Traded off post haste.....

I'd have to say yes To the OP's question, but fortunately I've only done once(so far!). I had two guns at the time, a model 686-2 & a 9mm BHP. I decided I wanted a newer semi, & at the time, S&W had a deal going where if you bought a SW40VE, you got a fifty dollar rebate & two extra magazines. This was back in 2007, I think. The pistol just flat didn't work for me & had the worst trigger of any firearm I've ever owned. I managed to sell it a couple of years ago for more than I payed for it. I included a laser sight with it & the guy was happy, but nearly as happy as I was to see it go!

I had a classic 44 mag Redhawk with 7.5" barrel. The grip was just too wide and big for my hands and even though I loved the way it looked I could never shoot it well enough to keep. It happens.

The Ruger 22/45 was a frustrating ownership experience for me, so it got traded.
While it pointed well and shot accurately, the takedown/reassembly procedure was such a pain that I didn't clean it as often. This bothered the old OCD to a point that the gun often sat in the safe.
Oh, well...it went as part of a multi-gun trade for something I really wanted and will shoot often !
Life is too short to own guns one doesn't like or shoot.

Well THERE'S the problem! EVERYBODY knows that a proper handgun is made of metal and has a hammer!

Grips seem to be a deeply subjective thing; there are many different shapes and preferences, some based on biology, some on habit.
The good thing about your issues with the M66, is that most of them could be solved with a bit of work. The front sights are pinned, so perhaps a different height blade installed along with some persuasion with a hammer could remedy the "low right" shooting.
A reduced power mainspring may provide some double-action relief.
The grips may be the hardest problem to solve, but there are enough offerings out there that it WILL happen, eventually. I like the X-frame grips, FWIW.
Good luck, and don't give up on a good S&W !

I don't exactly know. I found out she has been separated from her hubby for quite awhile-so still married. However, she isn't wearing any rings and mentioned he wants to talk but, I don't think she wants him back. Sabrina likes the attention I'm giving her, so?????? Anyway, I'll know for sure if she is divorcing him and will know by mid-October for sure. From our talks, she isn't interested in giving him another try.
I think she wants to concentrate on becoming a full time chef---and has agreed to my company. I'm taking this very slow. I'm enjoying one of her double chocolate cookies just now. At the rate I'm enjoying her cooking, I'm seriously thinking of joining a gym.
I'm not usually interested in dating a woman with tattoos as she has three but, none are very large and none in areas that are noticeable unless you really look. I'm not against a person with tattoos but, hers are decent ones so I'm ignoring my imposed preference.

I have a very nice Star Firestar in 9mm that fits this scenario. I shoot it great at the range, but I bought it as a carry gun and I cannot draw the thing and get a proper grip no matter how hard I try. It comes out of the holster pointing every which way. Problem seems to be that the grip is too short front-to-back for my long fingers.

If I met a woman that I liked and would tolerate me and feed me double chocolate cookies, I think I could overlook a little body art.
Any woman that could make an old dude want to join a health club must be pretty much worthwhile.
Good luck with your new adventure.

An Auto-Ordnance 1927A5, the pistol with no stock. Nothing but a big awkward mess, to me. Only thing it did good was hang over the fireplace. the spring was so heavy it nearly turned primers inside out, badly dented brass. It's not an SMG, so it's really not good for anything. A 1911 is lots better. I swapped it for a SAA.
A M66-6 2 1/2 barrel. It was in excellent condition, but I never liked the short barrel, when I love the 3" K frames. Plus it had the worst trigger of any stock S&W I've ever tried. Swapped it for a nickel M15.
Colt Diamondback .38 snub. Just a pimped up, gaudy DS, with that stupid vent rib. Kept it a couple of years and sold it for $150 more than I had in it.

I have been through several guns that either get traded off or sold for something else, to me half the fun is finding what suits me best. It is also the best way for me to try several different guns. Been through many Glock pistols that i just don't shoot well and wind up trading away. For me i prefer S&W and Beretta. I wasn't too sure of the M&P 9c when i bought it but now i really like it and use it as my main carry gun.

Kel-Tec P32 I thought might be a backup. Tiny thing just didn't fit my hand and I couldn't hit with it worth a damn.
Smith 411 was a perfectly decent pistol but for some reason didn't feel right. Traded it.
And one that will sound strange to many of you: I bought a Mossberg 500, 26" 12ga., after shooting side-by-side doubles and one Browning A5 Light Twenty for many years. It was the first pump shotgun I had owned since the '60's. I quickly realized that I didn't want a pump. Side-by-side with double triggers was what I wanted. Returned the Mossberg to the LGS, unfired.

I hate admitting but, Sabrina is the first gal in twenty years, that makes my heart beat like a jackhammer.
Her body is nice enough to not need any extra art added to it. The largest tattoo has her mothers name in a rose. Her mother passed away back on 2013? The others are of flowers but have no special meaning.
I needed a gym anyway and its located a block from where she works. I may start going as early as Tuesday morning.
