Default How many firearms are enough?

Gotta ask...
Just how many firearms are enough for you to be happy?

I know my collection is nothing compared to most. But I'm not a collector, I'm a novice shooter and all mine serve a purpose.
Thinking about getting one more 9mm (Canik TP9-SA).
Had the original TP9 and hated it (trigger)

So, what's your number and why? Guess mine is 18 or soon to be 19.

What I have...

6 - 9mm pistols
3 - 22lr pistols
1 - AR15 (.223)
1 - 9mm carbine
4 - 22lr rifles
3 - 12 gauge shotguns.

You'll probably get a lot of replies such as, "just one more". Take them with a grain of salt! I don't like to reveal how many firearms I own on an open forum, but suffice it to say that I have all I care to own at this particular time.

The "enough" number is a mathematical function, and is represented as being one firearm for every digit to the right of the decimal point in pi.

I don't understand the concept, truthfully.

It's like asking, "How many books is enough", or "How many DVDs is enough".

I've got X-amount of books. I see a book that I think I'd like to read. I buy it. Do I need to immediately sell one of the ones I've already got, so I stay at X-amount of books?

Same thing. I have guns. If I see a particular gun that I'd like to have, and I have the money to buy it, then whether I already have five guns, or twenty guns, or two thousand guns, is irrelevant. I want THAT gun, and so I get THAT gun.

Some things I get ENOUGH. Dishes, for example. I have enough dishes that, probably, 20 people could all eat at the same time. Maybe more. I live alone (well, me and the dog). I have ENOUGH dishes.

But movies? Books? Albums? Guns? Ain't no such thing as ENOUGH.

What happens if "it" takes over your house or life. There's never too much of something? Have you ever watched Hoarders?

To a collector they never have enough. 100?, 200?, 300? ?????????

To a target shooter a limited number his one gun is very expensive.

To a hunter probable a few.

When does a person stop buying? When they die.

When the SHTF or we face TEOTWAWKI.. or Zombie apocalypse..... Handgun, assault rifle... short barrel shotgun and maybe a small back up...........

but the "**** ain't HTF".... so we think maybe this one is better than that one....... a backup to our primary..... remember 2 is better than one...... so why not a 3rd of 4th......... and 100 mags .......... ammo fort.......

bug in ..... or ...... bug out.... MREs or Mount House.......... I'm so tired..... think I'll go watch......"The Last Ship"

Got it....... I need a 5" rapid fire..... naval gun...

If you know how many you have, you do not have enough.

My needs and wants change with time as new models come out and my interest change. I've competed at a variety of shooting sports, each requiring different firearms. Also my interest in various firearms evolve over time. I'm not limited by economics as I was in my youth, but I only buy to fill a particular need/want. The numbers are meaningless in and of themselves. Storage can get to be a problem however. I don't have a overwhelming urge for something new and shiny at the moment, but who knows what tomorrow may bring.

You asked about ENOUGH. Now you're speaking of TOO MUCH.

There is a difference between ENOUGH and TOO MUCH.

And no, I've never watched Hoarders.

I actually have too many. As I get older, I see fewer hunting seasons and time to shoot them all. Although, I would like a Smith Model 41 again.

Enough? 3! One quality semi auto handgun chambered in a modern self defense round. One modern semi auto battle rifle and I'm leaving room for one more of something just in case I didn't think of it.

You will Know when you get there, but that is a pretty good start you got there. You might want to know it is kind of unpatriotic not to have a least one 1911 in .45ACP and I don't see any 40S&W listed there either. Where are your deer rifles, and pig rifles, and you never know when a buffalo is going to run at you. And what kind of a wimp does not have some .357 Magnums, and some .44 Magnums. Now I can understand that some don't have both a Ruger Super Redhawk and a Model 29 or 629, but to not have either? Yuk!

I don't see any S&W revolvers in that pile, so you will NEED 30 or 40 more Smiths!

I've gotten to the age where I realize I never will have enough. I do have lots of fun ones, but there are so many more out there. Like:

Weatherby MkV
Browning Superposed
Winchester 21
Sig P210
Krieghoff Nitro Express Double Rifle

What dreams! Damn, this thread is going to cost me money.

Condensed all my needs to 3 calibers (and of course added 4th -.223). Got rid of 45acp, 40sw, never liked 357mag or 44mag. Besides another 9mm, I'm looking at 308 next. Btw I've only hunted a couple of times in my life and that was the last 2 seasons (deer). And if we were one of the 38 states that had feral hogs - I'd be all over that, but that's a no go in Indiana.

I've found a point to where I have all the airguns I want.

The firearms, I'm not so sure as there have been many "last" purchases.

One (1) double barreled 12 gauge shotgun. 2 blasts is all you need.

RJJ, I'm about at the same place you are, and I've regretfully sold off maybe a dozen or more in the last 3 years in order to make ends meet while I was out of work. There's ALWAYS another one you see that you think "gee, that's a neat one - I'd like to get it". I think I'm following something like 40 auctions on GB right now, just seeing where pricing goes so I know what to plan on the next time I see a "gotta have it".

So I guess that's a long-winded way of saying what makes you happy is different for all of us, and sometimes that means "finding the next one".

I have more than I need, but not as many as I would like. I have guns for every possible need, real, perceived, or imagined!

The nice thing about not needing any more, is that I never know what's going to pop up next! I like almost all firearms to a degree, but like a lot of the guys here, I favor older S&W revolvers, and after that anything designed by John Browning. I also like Colt and Ruger. I'm always on the lookout for a screamin' deal, and every once in a while I find one.

A couple nice additions to your collection would be a nice high-powered hunting rifle, and a large bore revolver.

Some of my friends have 1 gun, another has 115. It's an individual thing.
By the time I have 10-12 I will be satisfied. I think.

You sir are mistaken. You simply buy some because they are good deals even if you dont need it. Thats what I did tonight!

I don't know. You'll have to ask someone with more than I have.
