Default Hunting season off to a good start

Went out small game hunting at a new spot I had never been to before, on state land looking for grouse. Heard one drumming, saw one behind some brush but never got a shot at it, but a ways farther I spotted nice grey squirrel on the ground. With my bad left arm holding a shotgun is tough and I haven't used it much and today was a bit of a let down. An easy shot 5 years ago that would have been it got one pellet into the squirrels leg and it was enough to hobble him. When I got to where I could see it again it was too close for the shotgun but I carry a handgun for a reason, he started to move and I got him through the vitals at 7 yards or so and that finished him. Not the most auspicious way to get stew meat but it's only day one.

Nice shooting! Glad to hear you are still recovering well, and you are able to do some hunting despite your impairment. I've been searching for years for a place where I can take my son squirrel hunting. I keep telling him about hunting them with a .22LR handgun - challenging and fun. Would that work for you, or is handgun hunting squirrels not allowed where you live?

Best of luck,

Dave

Nice shot! You're off to a good start on that stew. Keep after them.
