My collection is tending towards "Range Queens" -- A term I just coined
Over the years I have gravitated to guns in very good to excellent condition that will not lose value if used carefully at the range on a dry day.
Noticing that I did not have any mint condition "Safe Queens," I decided to call these high condition collectable shooters my "Range Queens." I googled the term and did not see it used in this fashion.
I suspect I am not the only member with a nice gun or two that is not too nice to shoot. On the other hand, I suspect that a faint turn line will get more pronounced after a few boxes of 38's or 357's.

I like it and can relate. I like to shoot my guns but also believe life is too short to shoot ugly ones. I'm not a collector but I like to collect nice shooters. If that makes any sense....

I like it. I think if 10 or more people here start using the term, it will be an official "gun guy" word. lee

Aptly put. I have a few range queens...and there's a politically incorrect joke there as well. <must...stop...typing>

That pretty much describes my accumulation. I shoot my very nicest, and all the rest.
I only have one right now that I haven't shot. A Colt DS from 1933 in, except for two tiny little dings and a slight turn line, pristine condition. I was waffling on it becoming my first safe queen, but I've known all along I was going to have to shoot it.
I'll use the term, but not if I'm near SF!
(Sorry, I had to)

I've been using the term a long time.
All my guns get fired from time to time but I don't drag them to the range behind my truck to give them "character." On another forum I go to they regularly discuss ways to artificially age guns and how cool a certain high end 1911 looks when the thin bluing quickly wears.
Mine live in socks & rugs when they're not actually being used. I don't own many that were bought new but those that were tend to stay looking that way.
That would likely change if we ever had any use for a holster in San Diego.

I don't think "Range King" cuts it. It's the similarity of Range Queen to Safe Queen that makes the term Range Queen informative and not perjorative.

...but queens are babied and protected and never get out in the world. Kings conquer the world, or in this case, the range

I laughed at first, thinking it was a contradiction in terms but, the more I think about it, I realize "range queens" describes most of my guns.

Yea, call them what you want. I do believe I will keep calling my guns "shooters" and let the looks speak for themselves. The good, the bad and the ugly alike.
Don't want a "safe queen" so the collector folks have no competition from me. More power to 'em and to each his own.

As I understand the term....NOS....... are older guns that have never been sold/transferred by a Dealer... to a retail buyer.
Example: In 2014 I bought a brand new/still in the box CZ 453 dated to 2008 that had been in a Dealers storeroom since 2008/9..... New old stock.

I'm not disagreeing with you BAM-BAM but I've seen quite a few nearly worn out "NOS" guns on gun show tables. Of course nearly all of them were "rare."

Ya funny how that works................................especially when you can tell it's been refinished.........
When a Gun Show seller says "No it's not refinished!"....... it means ...... No I didn't refinish it!!!"

I have several very nice guns that really should be safe queens. But I just can't resist. They don't get shot much, but they do get shot occasionally.
Range Queen works for me.

The term "Range Warrior" doesn't embody the high quality and condition -- and that it would be a Safe Queen except that you shoot it.

Not taking guns to the range for proper exercise is firearms abuse.

Re: OP. Understand your thinking! Have occasionally gotten my hands on some really wonderful firearms, the sort that you don't even cock or really get to enjoy handling. Sold them off to folks who wanted them. The rifles I now own are very nice, but they are the type that I can take out and enjoy handling and enjoy taking to the range. I can take them to the woods for hunting, etc. What a joy! I have a few very nice handguns. They are all without exception the type revolvers/pistols I can take to the range and enjoy shooting ... hard. Sincerely. bruce.
