Picture Puzzle Update, We Have a Winner
Mrs. Snubby likes doing puzzles. For her next Birthday I'm planning on getting a custom puzzle made.
Today, I took a 5 mile hike and brought my camera along. I'd like to know which picture y'all think would make a good puzzle.
I'm kinda partial to #2.
#1 The entrance to the Paw Paw Tunnel
#2 From a mountain ridge. Shows the local river and our little town in the distance.
#3 A shot of the sun dappled trail I was hiking on.
#4 Off the side of the C&O Canal Towpath showing a wide part of the canal.
#5 The back door of a walk in foundation left from a lock house.
#6 A picture at river level.

I am partial to No. 2 also. No 1 is next in line on my favorite list. Good pictures.

No.3 will keep her in a nice calm pleasant mood all the time she spends on the puzzle. There are many benefits in that. :-) .........

Personally they all look tough to me. There's not many contrasting colors and shapes. Lots of green and brown. The one with the building has some nice edges though.
But I also don't do puzzles.
Ever.

#1 & #5 seem to have more color and shading variations.
#2 would be interesting to do, but there is a lot of the same color on the mountain in the background.. That would be a challenge.

It depends.
Do you like her? Then, number 3.
If not, then number 1.
(You know I'm joshing you, Wayne. Couldn't resist though.)

Cool pix snubby. Great idea.
Strictly on what would make the best puzzle, I would say # 3 or # 5 (in that order). They would be most challenging because of shading, light and subtle contrasts.
Of course if one has a special meaning to you or your wife, then that's the one for you.

I know you and she love to hike, Snub. I chose the sun-dappled trail. Maybe not the best puzzle, but a peaceful, happy scene.

1 and 2 are specific to our area, I kinda like them.
Thanks, having a video channel kinda makes you think in terms of framing a scene.

I'm kinda thinkin' #3's a bit too much of a generic sun dappled wooded trail. It'd make a nice puzzle but I'm thinking it's not specific enough.

That's the thing, there's lotsa greens and browns in nature shots.
I don't do puzzles either. I just sit there and get a headache.

2,000 piece she recently finished. I used the wide angle lens.
Or as she put it, "It's just a 2,000 piece."

Another 2,000 piece puzzle. She did the edges last to make it more of a challenge.

A blonde calls her husband at work one day and asks him, "Can you help me when you get home?"
"Sure," he replies. "What's the problem?"
"Well, I started a really hard puzzle and I can't even find the edge pieces."
"Look on the box," he said. "There's always a picture of what the puzzle is."
"It's a big rooster," she said.
The husband arrives home and tells his blonde wife, "Okay, put the corn flakes back in the box."

I'm partial to #5, Back Door. Reason being, all the others have so much foliage in them, most of the puzzle pieces would be similar looking, increasing the difficulty of putting the puzzle together.
It's okay to have a somewhat complicated puzzle, but you don't want to make it so hard that the person will get frustrated and/or bored with working on it.

For a puzzle, I vote 5. Has contrasting shapes and colors, but will still be a challenge as a puzzle.
But as picture on the wall, 2.

I voted for #1; they're all very nice photos. #6 is a definite no-go with anything more than about 15 pieces; all of that water with little reflected in it would probably get you called a few names

I voted for number 1 but 5 would be my second choice. That building foundation would be difficult due to the large mass of one color.

My wife assembles them in our basement. Since there's a pool table down there, it's a cat free zone. She put a big hunk of cardboard on the pool table and uses that. The puzzle pieces don't slide well on the felt.
She'll assemble a color then take it down stairs. That's for the larger puzzles.
We have a table her Dad made in our living room that's 22" tall, about 33" wide and 26" deep. It has a Lexan cover. For 1000 piece puzzles, she uses that table and covers the puzzle with the Lexan. So far the cat's haven't figured how to get under the cover.

The Mrs. definitely has a talent Snubs.
I think any of them would be a worthy challenge but I voted for #3 because it reminds me of some wonderful walks with my dogs. If heaven is a place like that, with them, I'll be happy.

Snubby,
Since she's so good at this, and you're do devious...
make it a montage of all of them.
That'll keep her occupied.

Looks like #1's in the lead. I'm kinda liking it because it's specific to this area. #3's a nice pic of a sun dappled trail but it can be a trail from many other places.
Hey, I just thought of something. I've got at least 6 years of Birthday's covered. I can also get some winter scenes and fall scenes.

They all have aspects of their composition that would make them fairly simple to solve. It seems to me that number 4 would be the most difficult as it has fewer features that are outstanding. Miss Pam also loves these puzzles and prefers a "challenge" so for this reason I picked number 4.

I'm wondering what Zachary and Natayo are doing when she is engaged in assembling a puzzle. Has to be a large board/table/work area.
Could not help with picture selection. I'm not familiar with those types of locales. On what planet(s) were those pictures taken?

No, devious is same one, front and back; rotated 90 degrees.
Gave one like that to my wife. She sold it in a yard sale for a quarter.

Hey Snub, where do you get photos made into puzzles and how much does it cost. I have many a great image that I wouldnt mind being made into a puzzle. I think it would also be a great gift idea.
A hard puzzle to solve would be a rather huge pile of twenty twos some surface.

Miss Pam once did a puzzle with 3,000 pieces. It was a picture of a field of ripe strawberries. She also did one with 2,500 pieces that was a picture of a bunch of beagle puppies.
Me? I'd rather pour molten steel up a wildcat's behind in a phone booth than do one of those. When the kids were little I put one of their's together ONCE. 25 pieces each about the size of a Zippo cigarette lighter. it was a pic of a bunny rabbit in a cabbage patch. This is how I found just one of those pesky "limitations" that Clint Eastwood talks about.

Could not help with picture selection. I'm not familiar with those types of locales. On what planet(s) were those pictures taken?

P.S. Any spaghetti/meatballs recently?

Miss Pam got her mother and sister hooked on those things. Her parents had an old ping pong table in the garage. My FIL painted it and brought it in the house and put it in the game room. My MIL would buy the huge 5,000 piece puzzles and they'd all work on it together when we were over for Sunday dinners.
I'd be out in the back yard looking for my wildcat.

We have a pool table in our basement. That makes it a no cat zone.
My wife puts a large piece of cardboard on the felt since the pieces slide easier on cardboard.

Gave one like that to my wife. She sold it in a yard sale for a quarter.

My wife doesn't like the two sided ones either.

I'm not good at puzzles.....
I'm not good at hard puzzles, so I like ones with features I can identify. Therefore I'd pick #3 and 5. If she likes harder puzzles, don't pick one of these. I like all of the pictures though. The canal looks like something I would paint, so I like that one. The tunnel is really interesting but TOO MANY TREES.
