Default No plans for Thanksgiving

Without family, it's just another day. Perhaps a turkey TV dinner will be appropriate. Is anyone else spending the day this way?

Enjoy.

With 9 kids living up north and us down here, we will probably just find the best turkey dinner around town and call that celebrating. It's just sort of the holiday deciding the menu, that's all.

Thanksgiving will never be "just another day" for me, family or no family.

I can't imagine letting the day go by without giving thanks to our Creator, even if it's only for still being around to observe another Thanksgiving.

For a Pilgrim, A feast with our friends that were already here to be remembered.

It's about a new beginning and thanking the creator for a chance to be free thinking men.

It kinda fell apart from there.

I'll have probably have some seafood.

Even if it means duct-taping the kids and putting them in the big freezer, I'm going to put together the reloading bench while the wife makes the turkey.

Quite possibly. It depends upon whether friends are visiting family in NY.

Otherwise, I'll probably watch some movies, sans giant robots and people shooting while flying through the air.

Talking

I have spent many a Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthday alone. I don’t get bothered by it. However, this Thanksgiving I am eating with my brother and his lady friend. Just makes it more difficult to stay on a diet.

I long ago stopped making holidays more important than any other day. For me a good day is a good day. Being retired, I don’t have to work any more or any less, so a holiday is no big deal.

Get those turkey roasts, mash potatoes in the fridge section. A can of peas and carrots. The turkey roast will be eats for a few days.

After dinner some will go Xmas shopping.

Don't want to overdo it (overeating). On the first of next month, I'll be one step closer to "the end". Why crowd my luck?

Anybody reading this who doesn't mind little kids
and a bunch of crazy women laughing all day is
more than welcome to join us at my humble little
abode for a Thanksgiving meal and good fellowship.
Probably be some old men laying around breaking wind
while watching football then take the kids and dogs
to the park for a little walk.
If any of you want to join us there is always room at
my table. Especially on Thanksgiving Day.
PM me and i'll give ya' directions how to get here.
God Bless

Chuck

Without family here for the Holidays also (divorced 20 years ago, still single). I try to make the best of it. Food? Thanksgiving.. Cornish game hen with rice raisin stuffing, green beans or asparagus (steamed), mashed taters, & gravy. XMAS I always go for seafood. This year it is a big lobster tail. Probably throw in some BIG peel and eat shrimp for an a appetizer. Really nice baked tater with all the fixings. I have to have homemade oyster stew.

Activities. Reload ammo for the next year on my Dillon, get inside stuff done, take a nap when needed, Etc. It's for me time off of work. I love it!

Life is good!

Just another day for me. It isn't really the holiday that causes misery
for people. It's the expectations that people have regarding holidays.

Penny and I make it a point to invite all the single folks we know to our house for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Eve and other holidays. Next week Penny is taking the week off from work to begin cooking and baking.
You all come.

Thanks for the offer, but 2900 miles is a bit far for me to hitchhike.

Well I am eating on Thanksgiving Day. There will be food here that I don't see most of the year. We only have 8 coming for the day. Last year there was 17 here. Me and Missus MD do all the cooking, so we'll be busy.
Y'all have a great Thanksgiving.

It will just be the two of us this year.

Last year, everybody was at our house. This year, all the kids are going to their in-laws'. It's their turn. My mom will be staying with my brother's family for Thanksgiving. My sister will be traveling to Montana to spend the holiday with her kids.

This is the first Thanksgiving, that I can remember, in 43 years where it's just been Judy and me. The kids have all invited us to their in-laws, but Judy is adamant that we're spending this Thanksgiving by ourselves. In fact, she's pretty excited about it. No big dinner to prepare. No messy kitchen to clean up.

We've already made reservations at a nice restaurant, and then we plan on taking in a movie.

However, being the sweet lady that she is, she promised to make a pumpkin pie for me.

The bottom line is, no matter what the situation is, we're just downright thankful for the many blessings we've received over the years.

We live in a free country. Oh sure, it has its problems, but, by golly, it's way ahead of whatever country is in second place.

We have a roof over our heads. We have food on the table. We can go to sleep at night without fear of having our house bombed or having police or military bust in. And when you think about it, there are a heckuva lot of people in this world that can't say that.

Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends on the Forum.

Family is 2000 miles away.My best friend and family is 80 miles away.Could go there but traffic is murder and I don't like dealing with the possibility of hitting multiple DUI checkpoints on the way home.

I'll probably grill a ribeye and watch some football.I might even go all out and have a glass of wine instead of beer.

Been single and living alone for 36yrs.If I could store up enough food and other items I wouldn't leave the house until after New Years Eve.I just cant stand the craziness and impatience that people will be exhibiting for the next five weeks.I don't need the stress and wont contribute to others.

Thanksgiving and 4th of July are the only two holidays I really enjoy. My older son is hosting this year-we usually do dinner at mine-it's nice we both have the day off.

His mother in law, bat-you-know-what crazy, is handling the turkey, he and his wife are making the sides, still waiting on what I'm supposed to bring. The grand munchkin (2 now) handles the cuteness detail lol.

My younger son works in retail and has come to hate the holiday as he has to be at work for job 1 at 5:30p until 1a. On Black Friday he has to be to job 2 at 6a. Works until 2p, then heads to job 1 from 3p to midnight lol.

This will be the third year that I go to my ex mother in law's house for thanksgiving. My ex sister in law & her husband my 2 daughters & 2 grandchildren & ex wife will be there. I have a nice time with everyone except my ex wife who acts like I'm not there. I never could figure her out.

Several military bases in our area that have an adopt a service person for the holiday. Every year since my mom passed my sister and I and our spouses pick up a few and go to a nice dinner in Williamsburg. Always have a great time.

This year my wife lost her grandmother (old age) and her mother (stroke), my brother's wife's brother died (cancer), and my mom's on hospice. So we're hosting this year and my brothers and their families are coming in to visit my mom on her favorite holiday (next to Christmas), possibly for a final time. A year of loss, but grateful for one more year with Mom, and togetherness with lots of family and kids.

Pretty much the same here. All my immediate family here, is going to see my BiLs dad and feast with him. He isn't expected to make it through years end as he has Alzheimer's and is 85. My lady is also still in Arizona for treatment, and all I can hope for, is our nightly chat.

What a thread - never thought of spending Thanksgiving by myself and I am very grateful for that. I should think of others and all the different situations we face. Its really neat with all the offers by forum members to invite others to be part of this holiday. I hope I can do the same someday. To me this is the best holiday of the year. I am going to my in-laws, basically just 5 of us. I look forward to it as I get to relax and get waited on, what a break from the hustle of DC. Be safe everyone, enjoy the holiday no matter what you decide to do; what a great forum this is.

I've been alone for the past four years. The landlord told me that he had his wife would make dinner for the entire household. I told him that I appreciated the offer, but didn't need a reminder of the people in my life that are now gone. I'm not much of a "holiday" person. I won't be with people and ruin their "good time".

Thanks, just the same.

I didn't married until I was early 30s of age. While I was single I would volunteer to work Holidays so the married Officers could be with their families plus being busy kept me from thinking that I had no one waiting at home.

Thanks, just the same.
You should rethink your actions. It's very nice that people invited you over to share the holidays. To me it means something.

I am in a "rooming house" situation, and the landlord/landlady are bringing over food to the house. They do not live here, but about 55 miles away.

I have no interest in "hobnobbing" with the people that live here, nor do I have anything in common with them, save for the same roof over our heads. I would prefer to cook my own food (meager though it may be) and be left to myself. It saves a great deal of headache, conflict and bother. For me, it is just another day. As far as I am concerened, it is "much ado about nothing".

By the way, why do you feel that it is important to tell me how I should feel? I'd be willing to gamble that if you were told how you should be feeling, you would be quite annoyed by someone telling you what to think. If someone thnks, feels or lives differently from you, yet it doesn't impact you life, do you think it is your position to "tell them what they should think or feel"? There are times when I think that people should mind their own business. This is one of them.

I wish no one any ill. If you are celebrating, enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm playing golf with friends in the AM, then watching football and drinking beer PM by myself. Looking forward to it.

I am a dugga boy, quite comfortable with being alone. I am not lonely. Loneliness is an emotion of the recently separated.

This will be my first Thanksgiving after being divorced. We had family the past 25 years or so and seems weird not to this year. I always deep fried a turkey or smoked one as everyone wanted that.
My niece though has invited me to her house as she's cooking her first turkey this year. Her fiancé shot his first wild turkey this past spring and we're having that. My brother is going there early to show her how to cook a turkey and help with sides too.
It should be a good time with family and for once I don't have to deal with my former bat crazy in-laws. They were weird though as some years they would participate with holiday get togethers and some years they wouldn't. I also will be allowed to enjoy a beer or two as I could never drink around the in-laws as they were all former alcoholics. I never could figure that one out but went along with it.

I typically end up working most Thanksgivings, this year being the same. Last year, the family decided that instead of just cooking a ton of food and hanging around the house, that everyone would cook and provide hot food for the rest of my crew that is at work with me. Sort of a "if you won't be at home with your family, might as well still enjoy the day with your 'other' family".

It was quite the hit with everyone, so now it's turned into a group effort that everyone participates in. In between calls, I'll be deep frying a few birds in the back lot, the LT has pitched in ham and everyone else is bringing in assorted dishes. My wife and kids will be tending all the other dishes and hot drinks. Once all the food is ready, the troops can stop by when they have down time, get a hot meal, socialize and even make a to go box if "duty calls". At the end of the night, we send all the leftovers home with the new kids that don't make as much, yet have much higher metabolisms.

10-4, inspcalahan. When I worked at the plant in Richmond, I always worked the Holidays. Best time of the year - all the bosses and nosy day workers were off.

Pity? I'm not asking for anything of the sort. People read things as they wish through their own emotional filters. You are projecting what I am feeling through your own personal historic perspective. I just don't care.

I don't "delve into" the holidays and refuse to be "brainwashed" into "doing what everyone else does because it is expected". Children and the mentally feeble get into trouble by bowing to "peer pressure". I am not a member of the "sheeple" masses that does what it is told because someone on television (or society at large) says so.

The "fart and belch their way through the football game after turkey dinner" crowd leaves me cold. I never could go for that. This is why I can't stand being around the "bleating crowd".

As the final line in 'Gone With The Wind" reads, "Tomorrow is another day". Who cares what day it is? It's just another day. Since I don't care for team sports, I'll find myself watching the contiuing saga of an old "Cop Opera" on Amazon's "Firestick".

Enjoy Thanksgiving as you wish. That is entirely your business. I hope that you do, but I am sick and tired of people reading their own meaning into the reason that I do not.

Thank you.

Last year my doctor put me on a diet. One thing on the bad list; No more pizza. So last year I had a large pizza with extra pepperoni and extra cheese. I haven't had a pizza since then. This year I am going to commemorate last year's Thanksgiving by having a large pizza with extra pepperoni and extra cheese, and I'm going to eat it all myself. Then my son and I are going to watch the Packers beat the stuffing out of the Bears.

You only live once. Enjoy the day and eat an extra slice for me! (Add some Frank's Red Hot for a bit of "pizazz"... believe me, you'll enjoy it)!

You misunderstood my post. I feel you are responsible for your lot in life as I am for mine, its what you wish to make it. As for me I enjoy all the holidays as I do every other day of the year.

A turkey roast cooks in its own container. Get some of those mashed potatoes cranberry jelly,

I think next year we might do this or buy a complete dinner.
