Talking Ahhhhhh.....family

Siblings Gather Around PowerPoint To Hash Out Off-Limits Topics For Thanksgiving - The Onion - America's Finest News Source
Funny stuff! I'm looking forward to slinging a few bombs today myself at the table I'm hoping to be able to sit at the kids table again this year-the topics tend to be a lot more freewheeling that at the stuffy grown up table.

Thanksgiving in the early days were so much better when we had the forgetful grandmother, the crazy uncle and the drunk aunt and dad calling mom in the kitchen to complain about her kin and making sure your cousins didn't steal your stuff .

It's funny listening to my wife talk about how much shopping is going on during and right after Thanksgiving. I told her it's just the way it is now. Gives people an excuse to get away from their family for a lil while. She said - I think that's only the way you think. On que (no lie either) Walmart commercial comes on tv for sales starting at 6pm on Thursday. I literally couldn't stop laughing as she walked out of the room.

Fortunately, he had a sense of humor.

I was told that by a young pup once, I told him I use his type for target practice just in case a bad one does show up. He dated my daughter once and never came back.

It was easier for us. Except for my mother, everyone was crazy. We used her as kind a calibration device.

She always nearly hurt herself, alternately shaking her head in bafflement and trying to look disapproving.

Being normal is over rated.

I usually defang the dinner table tension by announcing no religion or political discussions allowed. I know "boring" but we all get along and I don't get into trouble with the wife...

We keep several TV's on different football games even when the "buffet line" is open, keeps them focused on something else. Since my wife's brother was banished from family gatherings there is little controversy and the wife of the year pageant is ended (he has been formally married 5 times in 10 years that we can confirm). Only the competition between parents between whose kids are the second best. Can't compete with my kids as I do their taxes and know where the bodies are buried.

Tell you what, you guys with beautiful families, be very grateful...this Thanksgiving was a corker.
Went to my little girlfriends family. She only visits them on Thanksgiving.
Three generations of drug addled drunks, zoned out teenagers with infants crawling around in a houseful of filthy furniture, mangy little dogs and broken appliances and worn out toys....but plenty of beer in the fridge (out in the garage filled with junk).

My gal and her mom both said "...this is the last time", I concurred.

There,but by the Grace of God,go I.
Talk about being Thankful, yes I am.

I dated a woman whose family was so dysfunctional that it was beyond belief for even a reality show soap opera ...

Note PAST tense of "dated" ...

Insanity did not run in her family; it GALLOPED!

"The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well." - GC

We get to know our family a little too well at Thanksgiving.

Mom is 95. In deference to her, we keep the lid on politics. But we all know it is seething below the surface.

Default YOU CAN'T PICK YOUR FAMILY.

And I thought my family put the funk in dysfunkshunal. My wife spent a week alone with my family shortly after we were married. When I picked her up at the airport she was still in shock, babbling something about me being "the normal one"

From the original linked piece:-

The presentation reportedly concluded with a reminder not to ask Uncle Tim’s girlfriend anything, a slide that has been carried over from the last seven straight PowerPoints.
ROFLMAO!!!!! Priceless stuff.
