The stupidest question ever asked on a gun website
I saw a question this evening while visiting a firearms website that answers questions pertaining to many makes and models of guns and firearms in general. This question left me scratching my head.

" I live in the city and have never fired a gun. Which xxl loudenboomer magnum do I need for self defense/ plinking and Alaskan bear attacks" ? ( even though I have never been to Ak, or have any intention of going). Sound familiar? OR Here's a pic of a gun I just acquired/ stoled, in a paper bag, how much is it worth, and when was it made?

Cutting off your finger.....
If you cut off your finger, jam it in the barrel and drive it home tightly with a hammer that MIGHT be sufficient obstruction to stop the bullet but there are no guarantees. It may just spray your finger out of the barrel and continue on until it hits something else, like your head.

There is an old myth about pushing your hand or body into the muzzle of a cocked Model 1911 held by an opponent to force the slide out of battery so it won't fire. I doubt if that trick works very often.

I have a new saying....
"Just being an American doesn't make you a gun expert".
That question shows just how far from an expert some people are.

About 45 years ago I worked with an old man from Mississippi who told me he'd had a friend who'd heard about that trick when he was in the army. Sometime after his discharge, he got into some squabble with a guy who pulled a gun on him at fistfight range. Of course, having been in the army, he knew just what to do. He pushed his palm hard against the muzzle of the other guy's...revolver.
He lived, but his guitar playing was never the same.

There was a scene in "Support Your Local Sheriff" Where James Garner puts his finger in a barrel of a gun and convinces the gun holder it will cause the gun to explode if he shoots it. This movie was of course was a spoof and a very funny one. I would guess that is the source of the question.
Whoops. I should have read all the posts before posting. Someone already beat me to it.

No you put your finger in the barrel, better to lose a finger than your hand. Lmao
Maybe he was thinking of a 1911 if you push the barrel towards the rear it won't fire. Would I trust doing that nope.

I believe you can push the slide back far enough the disconnector won't let it fire.
I fear these are the new first time gun buyers today. Be afraid, very afraid. Hide below ground.

While I was CMC of the Navy detachment at Dover AF base Port Mortuary during Desert Storm and on the Mid watch till 08:00 in Command Control Center received a call of one HR coming in.
At 07:00 the AF Captain comes in with the secure mail.
He reads it and starts laughing.
Says "Master Chief, read this."
The report had that a 1st Lt, National Guard was showing his men the safeties of the 1911, that if you pressed the muzzle on a 1911, it would not fire by pressing it on the side of his head and pressed the trigger......

I don't know for sure, but I think it just might work, UNLESS the gun is loaded with Plus Pee ammo.

In this book, which I've had for thirty years or so, there is an article about twirling a SAA.
In the article it says that, for the author at least, a 7 1/2" barrel 45 is the easiest to twirl. The extra weight sticking out balances it better than a 4 3/4".
The twirling itself is kinda stupid, especially with a Colt (ye gods, they is expensive). But if you already plan to twirl it, getting an idea of which barrel length twirls better ain't a bad idea.

I don't see any problem twirling a SAA (unless you do it with the hammer cocked ) Sammy Davis Jr comes to mind.

If you were to carpet the state of Florida how long would it take you to vacuum it and would it have to be a +P vacuum? Would it take longer if you were carrying concealed or open? I like hickory spam.

Sure the OP's example is a dumb question. However I see a lot of people new to guns and shooting that post legitimate beginner questions and get insulted for their lack of knowledge. Not so much on this forum, though. Thank you mods.

Well, it just stands to reason that it comes out the back, 'cause the front has a muzzle on it.

Hey now,my brothers are 10 and 9 years older than me so I was on the receiving end of a lot of things I needed someone to explain. I still get angry when I see birds roost on the electric line because I ran like heck in and out of the house in my formidable years (4-5) turning on electric items to zap them darn birds every time I saw them. It never worked but I was constantly reassured that I "just missed".

My favorite question is, what does Ctg. stand for?
Considering that it's there on the S&W barrel right after the caliber, I would think that the answer is obvious. Not to some people.

Not really.
Many non-gun people have never heard the term 'cartridge' used with firearms or ammunition. TV calls them 'bullets'.
Cartridges are for putting toner in your printer.
