This just happened yesterday at a man's residence on Greenwood here in town. A 69 year old Vietnam vet, who was at his home and was OPEN CARRYING his weapon, shot a thug twice while thug tried robbing him and his wife, while they were at home and in his yard. The couple are all ship shape, thug is unfortunately alive but not feeling as good as he had been before he tried robbing the wrong folks.

I love positive stories like this with happy endings too!

Reminds me of the first high profile self-defense shooting after Ohio got "shall-issue" concealed carry.

Arthur Buford and a pal decided that they'd rob a guy on his own front lawn. Little Artie was on probation for <wait for it...> ARMED ROBBERY.

The intended victim drilled Artie who, as the Brits say, "snuffed it" forthwith.

Artie's mutant family and posse thereupon tried to mobilize public support for the deceased. They were outraged to find VERY little support, in or outside of the community for armed robbers who can't take a hint. They resorted to threats and vandalizing the victim's home, which then got a rotating guard of Cleveland cops and Cleveland NAACP.

Apart from one or two left-wing weeklies, the general consensus was, "Don't want to get shot? Don't try to rob people on their own front lawns while you're on probation for... ARMED ROBBERY!".

The Addams Buford family didn't even bother to try to sue as I recall, being statutorily barred from recovery.

But as they say, I love a happy ending...

Too bad he's not toast. Now the couple has to deal with "you killed my baby" "he was such a good boy" "he would never do anything like this". Civil this and attorney that, retaliation, etc. Not that it wouldn't be that way if he was dead but at least he couldn't speak.

If it just happened it may not be entirely over yet. Was his gun confiscated? Any charges?, Any possible civil actions? It may be too soon to sound the all clear just yet. I sure hope the homeowner has NOTHING in his past history that could be dug up, because it will be whether it was "sealed" or not, no matter how trivial or relevant to this event. If the Thug should unfortunately survive he needs to find a new line of work, he's not too good at this one.

If I could get the guys address I would gladly sent him a box of ammo for whatever caliber he used. Kind of a Karma thing.

If the "thug" was a young one he probably had the mindset that "old" means worthless and helpless.

How about, 'mess with someone over 55, punk don't survive'. Where it would be legal to reload and finish off the wounded and urine soaked punks cause our eyes ain't what they used to be.

Yes having grey hair can mark one as old a decrepit. An easy mark. I abhor crime and do not like having to use, uh, correct methods to deal with robbers. When I was a young grey haired guy, 64, 2 times in one month 2 fellers looked at me and started counting the cash before they got to me. Classic cases of over estimating their ability and under estimating the grey haired one's. Today every morning when they swing by the church they say I am alive because the grey haired one let me live. Well maybe not.

The part I liked was when the tables were turned their eyes registered pure shock. You could see their drug laden brain trying to reload. It is sort of like trying to move the cursor with your mouse when the computer is locked up. To live you must go is a powerful game ending checkmate.

This makes me happier than a Mickey d"s happy meal.

Fight crime shoot back. Get off my lawn.

Well, kinda sorta, more like blood running red in the vets driveway or yard. I heard protein is good for vegetation.

They probably wish so but, I doubt even the aclu would touch this case. The vet did nothing wrong, was on his property and defended it and his wife. Incidentally, that area of town has had bad problems lately. About ten or so days ago, some gangbanger wannabe, was high on some drug, and went through the neighborhood breaking windows and injured I think two people before it was busted.

I heard he was handed his gun back and no charges. Highly doubt any civil case would fly here? Here the authorities have something known as common sense.

I think its in its early 20s?

A short update. Just yesterday, said thug was released from the hospital and is now residing in the Grey Bar Hotel, hosted by the Nueces County Sheriffs Dept Country Club and Resort Spa.

I'd love to watch that thugs trial if thug doesn't go for a plea bargain?

Being here in Texas this will likely be handed to a grand jury. The good guy will undoubtedly be no-billed, though. A coworker's cousin owns one of those check cashing places. A young thug tried to rob the place at gunpoint. Owner pulled his own gun. The thug ran. Owner chased him around the building and into a vacant lot where he shot and killed said thug.

When it happened she asked me if I thought he'd go to jail. I was afraid he might since he chased the BG and shot him after the real danger had passed . . . but I was wrong.

Her cousin was not arrested. It was referred to the grand jury. The shop owner was no-billed a couple of months later. Never even missed a day of work.

A very similar thing happened when I lived in Houston. It was Sunday around six pm, I was watching the Great Race on cbs and heard: pow pow.....pow pow pow. I learned it was the owner of a nearby cell phone store who shot a guy trying to rob him. Guy ran out of his store when owner pulled his gun, owner chased him outside and fired those five shots. I don't know how many hit the creature? but the creature ran out onto Kieth Harrow, got hit by a car doing about 55 bounced off the cars hood and landed on both feet while running into the parking lot of a nearby bar, collapsed and expired. That same now dead guy, tried breaking into my house two weeks earlier and, had I been able to get the back door unlocked fast enough? I might have shot him myself. Anyway, that store was about seven blocks away and I heard the POWs, asked my brother if he also heard the gunfire? and the idiot said it was only some kid popping firecrackers.

BTW, no charges at all put on said store owner. Turns out the dead guy had a rap sheet, as long as a football field.

The first one happened in Corpus Christi, the other was in Houston circa mid to late 2009.

Great happy endings on both. Also, no aclu or al sharpton on the 2009 incident.
