I've been snooping to buy a new truck too....Just for laughs, I called the local tax man (A woman answered the phone)...HOW MUCH, For the sales tax, property tax, and lic plates.

2 pure bred Angus bulls.
1 Sow
2 Roosters, and 3 laying chickens.
8 Bushels of wheat.
2 Horses 15 1/2 hands, less than 7 years old

First born..(Don't know if my daughter will go along with this one?)

Holy Moly....The sales tax and property tax on a new one is about 1/2 the national debt....

Anyone got a bicycle they no longer need? (One with good tires would be a plus) I might even settle for a old tire, so I can make my own sandals for walking.

It was an auto. The moose antlers were only temporary - sort of a last F.U. to California when I moved away. Left them on there while I wound through Los Angeles traffic just so I could offend a few more on the way out. They had to come off before any serious hills anyway, as they diverted enough airflow that it warmed up the engine quick.

I have an F150 which I love but that new GMC Canyon with the 2.8 liter Duramax looks like an awesome rig. I just can not see 40-42 grand for a midsize truck. That is just crazy craze.

I've owned Ford, Chevy, Toyota and (unfortunately) one Dodge. In 2012 I was truck shopping and checked out ford and chevrolet, test drove both. IMO the ford supercrew blew the chevy away. Bought the 5 liter V-8 Supercrew 4X2 XLT. Loved it. A year and a half later I needed to bump up my towing capacity. I went straight to the F150 XLT Supercrew 4X4 ecoboost with max tow package. Sticker was 46K, in an hour they came down to 35K. It pulls my 9,000 pound camper without breathing hard, rides and handles with a lot of comfort. The only thing I miss is the sound of that 5.0 V-8. I plan to keep this one a long time.

It's difficult to haul 100 steel fence posts, barb wire, corner posts and post cement in a Taurus in one load. Besides the F-150 is waaay more cool.

Wonder if a Vette is within a few bucks of a Volt?

I have a nice 18 speed. I'll take a weaned calf and one chicken that is laying. And no kidz....

Taxes is on price. Insurance is for a specific vehicle. Insurance on my 2015 F-150 SuperCab is $10 per month less than my wifes 2014 Mazda that cost ways less.

Another vote for the Ram.

But in all fairness I'd suggest that you go to a dealer and drive both. Then you can make a much better decision before taking the pen and signing that paper

Maaan, I hear ya. I like their Filson edition Brute and Wrangler as well as their Prospector.

I went to the car show last night and sat in all of the trucks and SUVs, plus a bunch of luxury cars. The nicest one there, hands down, was a new F150 Lariat. It may be the most comfortable vehicle I have ever sat in. It was also $63k and one of the most expensive vehicles (including Mercedes, Audis, etc.) there. I would love to have one, but for that kind of money they would have to throw in a divorce attorney.

In order to get that large towing capacity with the F150, they re-enforce the frame, add a heavy duty suspension plus all the regular towing stuff. When I loaded out the F150 to tow >10,000 lbs., it was $1000.00 more than an F350.

I have nothing against General Motors vehicles, but [there's that "butt"] the way GM treated the stock and bond holders during the last meltdown made me somewhat mad [and poorer]. Ford, on the other hand, stepped up and said "no thanks" to government bailout. For that reason I'll always be a Ford guy and will never buy another GM, or Dodge vehicle. And they all make good vehicles. If this sounds politically un-correct, then that's just a bonus to me. [hope it doesn't get me barred from this fabulous forum]

Aloha,

After posting about my Wife's Tundra's rubber roof strip's metal rusting,

I washed it during the weekend.

It is her daily driver and she travels to/from work on a quarry road.

Yep, both rubber strip's metal is rusting and an inch or more of the rubber

is lifting up.

Toyota is no longer what it used to be, neither is the local dealer.

Just retired from body work, this is my first week off. I'm on my 3rd F-150. I've repaired aluminum parts in the past and they were hit or miss. If the repair traveled into the panel from heat, (even sanding by hand, very soft metal) there was an option to finally replace the panel by the ins co. The shop I retired from bought a welder and equipment to repair aluminum. At this stage there are lots of shops that did the same thing. There are schools to teach how to repair the trucks but fixing them is the real teacher. I like the looks of the 150's but wouldn't want my F-150 to be an experiment to someone. If hit hard, the welded on parts, there was no real explanation of how to separate the damaged pieces (inner structure) from the good ones and let alone how and where to weld them. As years pass the repair procedures will be easier as everyone learns. ALUMINUM DOES corrode or rust like steel.

Not sure yet what truck I will buy. A close friend is a painter at a GM dealer and painting the bottom of doors (rust) is a common warranty operation with GM products. I'm not a Mopar person but who knows!!!??? Larry

I was told by my insurance agent once when looking at a new Dodge that their insurance is higher than Ford/GM due to welded on fenders.

Muley, go drive a Ford F-150 with the ecoboost V-6 with dual turbos. You then will have a seat of the pants test to compare to other vehicles.

Again I bought a 2015 F-150 super cab XL that had the XLT options and it was much cheaper. I did have to add overload springs. It was rated for the weight I wanted to carry but the springs let the RV tongue down too far. Works fine now.

Yes I drove a Dodge and it was quiet with the real difference being responsiveness and gas mileage. Another Dodge hit for me is, my SIL has a pretty new Dodge 4WD half ton Crew cab, short bed. Quiet, nice yes. But there have been too many FC recalls.

FYI, I've owned many trucks over the years, Ford, GM, Dodge and a japanese import. Overall quality and durability for my personal ones have always been Ford and GM with Dodges falling further behind in the rear view mirror. My Dodges were 1/2 ton ones. I think the Dodge 3/4 or 1 ton Cummings is a different beast.

As a city manager for a large company purchasing seemed to buy more Fords and Chevy's. Fords in the city environment seemed to incur less maintenance. Due to over all performance and perhaps personal preference the Purchasing folks did not buy many Dodges. I had up to 17-18 vehicles in our fleet most of the time.

Whaddaya mean, "maybe even a Ram"?
Why does a Ram seem like such a stretch? I have a 2014 Ram Bighorn with their 4WD/All WD system and a 5.7L hemi. I just love it!

I've had a couple of Fords, a GMC and a Chevy. In 2006 I bought a new Tundra SR5 just prior to the body style change. They had a lot full of them that they wanted to move in anticipation of the new model style so I got a pretty good deal. It has a smaller V-8 than the new ones but it does everything I need. My only regret is that I didn't get a 4WD. I get about 15 mpg in town and 17-18 on the road.
