Default My turn in the barrel I guess

Had a colon exam Wednesday, doctor just called, not good news at all. He took off two pollups that were non cancerous, however one other one, a rather large one he couldn't remove but did biopsy came back positive for cancer. I guess the next step is surgery and chemo. Wish me luck. I have a feeling me and my friend in the upper room might be talking a bit more these next few days. Telling my "other" family here did seem to help. Thanks for listening.

Thinking good thoughts & sending wishes for a good outcome.

Had chemo yesterday & going in this AM for an injection to boost my white cells.

You are far from alone on this forum.

If it has not gone through the wall of your intestine, you may have a very quick recovery. Prayers for the same.

My brother is recovering from the same thing. He is doing splendidly. So will you.

Cancer moved in with me twice and got the eviction notices. I hate squatters.

Prayers up Joe.

Joe,

Hang in there. I've got 21 more days of a treatment to resolve problems created by a cancer treatment, so I can understand.

They took a chunk of my colon about 10 years ago, but it is pretty much old news for me now.

Ask questions, get into a local hospital survivor support group, and vent as needed. It makes the process of healing a lot easier.

Will be putting in a good word for you.

Good luck and prayers for you, Joe. Stay positive and hang in there.

About one in three of the rest of us will have to deal with cancer some day. Skin, prostate, plumbing, etc. The key is catching it early. Some types don't give any clues they're at work chewing on you, but a lot do. Don't put off seeing your doctor if you develop an odd mole or sore that won't heal, a change in bowel habits or blood in stool, or other unexplained changes. And follow your doctor's recommendations for colonoscopies and other screening tests.

I've known too many people who would be alive now if they had followed this advice, instead of just hoping "it" would go away.

Stay on top of it and "git 'er done" as quickly as you can. The Big C isn't anything for which anyone should delay treatment. Thoughts and prayers are inbound from Tennessee along with a hearty Semper Fi!

My mother-in law has had surgery for a malignant large intestine growth removal on two different occasions when she was in her 80s and again in her 90s. She lost a little of her large intestine in the process, but had no complications and recovered quickly. She was never placed on chemotherapy. And she is still alive and in good health at 106.

Joe, Please consider yourself lucky.... They caught mine at the ER when I was experiencing bad stomach pains. I had complete blockage of the large intestine and the ER Doc said it had spread to into my lymph nodes. Had emergency surgery, and a 1/3rd of my large intestine was removed by two great Surgeons. The ER Dr was incorrect as the Cancer had not spread and was Stage 2b. I am praying that yours is Stage 1 or 2, if so, their will probably be no chemo. Since mine was 2b, I choose to go through chemo as it gave me a 5% increase of it not returning.

For anyone 50+ or 40+ with Family history, and not had a colonoscopy, you are playing Russian roulette. I had no history and less than 50. Don't fear the procedure as you wont even remember it.

Good luck my fellow Texan and PM me if you have any questions!

Joe, I gave you a "Like" for letting us know...Some of the others above my post have given some of their history, that the Big "C" can be conquered, so take heed from their posts. I too have earned the louped swirl for being a survivor..So please take some comfort, you are not alone.
It's scary not knowing what lies in the future, so feel free to express those fears with us...If it's our prayers that help, then you're going to have a bucket full of them from all of us here on this forum.

Best wishes, and a early Congratulations on your successful triumph over winning the so called battle.

Joe and Fish, best wishes on all.

I gave some other fighters a like too, it is for your positive spirit.

Remain positive, do what is required an don't get inpatient as it takes time.

Last September I got a little sick and spent 8 or 9 days in the hospital. They found lots of stuff besides the worst case of pneumonia they'd ever seen. Today I had my last follow up with the Internal med Dr. All is clear for those issues. All readings are back to normal.

I do have to get a clot filter removed and stay on thinners for a while. In 6 months they will shrink the veins in my rt leg so the valves will work properly.

BUT, the Diabetes, the high PSA, the bad cholesterol, and several other issues are back to middle normal.

No probs with the last GI check. For me it took Sept 12th until today. That is 4 months. You are fighting a tougher element. Remain focused and you will win. I've had 2 friends and one relative put the C into submission, I think will power was the most important tool they used.

May your toughness, family support and God be with you.

Joe-while talking to your friend, be sure to mention Is 53: 4-5 Mat 8:17 and I Pet 2:24. He already knows these, but He likes to hear them from His kids. Make sure you are one of them, and pray, meditate, and stand on these. We will pray for you tonight.

You are not alone, I had my colon cancer diagnosis at the end of 2012 and radiation/chemo, surgery, chemo and a 2nd surgery in 2013, spent 2014 and into 2015 recovering.

The surgeon is the key, the radiation oncologist and medical oncologist will most likely be following a standard course of treatment. The surgeon brings the real skill.

Send a PM if you want, I am very open with my experience. And realize that people are very serious when they say they are praying for you.

Best wishes. Colonoscopies are neither dignified nor fun, but they make a huge difference in finding and beating the Big C.

Default Keep your chin up...

My Father and my best friend are both fighting colon cancer. I just hope that you caught yours in time, the treatments are effective and you end up well.

Your right. No they aren't fun but they have improved so much that it's hardly more of an inconvenience. The prep is easier, the procedure itself takes a couple of hours with wait, prep, and recovery. Somebody has to stay with you. As soon as you're finished you go get something good to eat and that's about it.

There's no reason not to get a colonoscopy and if you don't you may be sorry. I had some pre cancerous polyps and they cut them out during the procedure, no problem. My friend had bleeding but put off the colonoscopy for more than a year. He's not expected to live long.

So JoeinTexas REALLY did the right thing getting checked out. If caught early enough there are surgical possibilities and the chemo isn't nearly as bad as it was a few decades ago. My Dad did fine for 10 years until cancer erupted on his kidney recently. He's almost 90 and if it weren't for that he'd probably live to 100.

Just remember. More than three colon exams per week is against the law in many states.

Try to keep a good attitude, I really do think it helps and I do hope all goes well for you! I got lucky with mine but the waiting for the results was a bit worrying.

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back on with the group. Wish I had better news to report but it appears the cancer has gone into stage 4, it has developed a liking for my liver and adrenal glands. The docs are giving me daily chemo and radiology. Everyone has been so wonderful in this treatment and the support of the S&W group has been invaluable. Still clowning around and keeping folks laughing and I do still plan on messing up all the statistics they keep giving me. LOL. Good news is I have had lots of time to do a ton of reloading so I have got a lot of shooting to do. Seems like a whole lot of folks have this nasty disease, smiles, laughter and good wishes for others seem to help a lot. My heart goes out to all.

Keep us posted. And in the words of those t-shirt guys, "like what you do, do what you like". And keep laughing. See below.

A Proctologist had been in practice for 20 years and had settled into a very comfortable life with his future being very secure. So he decided to fulfill his REAL life’s dream and become an auto-mechanic.

Having entered mechanic school, the former physician received the results of his first test back with a score of 200%. Confused, he asked the teacher why such a high score?

“Well”, said the teacher, “The first part was taking the engine apart and you did that perfectly so you got 50%. The second was to put it back together again and you did it perfectly and got another 50%. The other 100% was for doing it through the tailpipe.”
