Merle's still sick
Merle Haggard is still down with double pneumonia, I had to cancel a trip to New Mexico to catch a show. Keep him in mind, love his music or not, he's one of the last of his breed.

Sorry to hear that.
Not only is Merle one of the best singers,
He is absolutely one of the greatest song writers ever.
Among the Country Writers, I place him second behind the legendary
Hank Williams.

God bless him; hope he recuperates. Okie from Muskogee and Mama Tried are two of my favorite country songs.

Merle is a national treasure. As a writer, musician and performer he has few equals.
I've spent most of my adult life messing around with guns and guitars. i have only one autograph among the many greats I've met in both worlds...and that is Merle.
I wish him all the best and hope for a quick recovery.

They're all good, but Silver Wings is a favorite.

My wife and I will pray for him. We saw him several years back at the Ryman. He took a break in the middle of show and went down the street to a awards show.He recieved a life time achievement award and came back and finished show. But when he came back he brought a stage full of his friends .Only one I can remember offhand is Bobby Bare. But they all sang with him and it was a wonderful show.

I'm sorry to hear Merle is sick and hope he gets better soon. He certainly is a legend in country singing and song writing. I really have only appreciated his music in the last five years or so. When my mom came down with dementia, I played a lot the old classic country songs for her and they grew on me. They are easy listening.

Yes, he is. What's sad, though, is like so many other great singer/songwriters, (and other famously talented folks) you don't hear about them any more until they die. They get old and sort of disappear from the public eye, from public consciousness. Then, here comes everyone talkin' about how they loved him and he was such an inspiration and they're sure gonna miss him and blah blah blah quack quack quack.
Folks need to honor and recognize the great ones while they're still alive...let 'em know they're appreciated.
He's mostly not here any more, but Glen Campbell went out the right way, and people loved him for it.
I hope Merle pulls through.

A national treasure, that is. There are no better words to describe him. Other than maybe genius.
Some years ago there was a tribute concert for Merle, and Emmy Lou was one of the first to perform, and those were her exact words.
Rest easy, Merle, and sing more for us.

"Mama Tried" is one of my top two or three favorite country songs ever.
I love Merle's work. I hope we have him with us for a while longer.
Pulling for you, Mr. Haggard.

One of the best concerts ever.
Merle Haggard and George Jones 1981
Front row seats in a theater setting.
Back stage passes.
My thoughts are with the Hag

Saw him in Ft. Worth back in the 70's . He did a show to honor Bob Wills. He was on stage with a big hat a white electric fiddle and his belly pooched out. Took the bow and pointed toward Mr. Wills and said Bob this is for you. They were recording that and my brother got me the album. Ole Bob was in tears most of the show. Merle did about a forty minute encore. The convention was sold out.
