I have only one friend in this category, whom I've known since 1964 when we were eleven years old. We have been through a lot together. It's never been said, just understood.

Yes I agree with alot here. With 54years on clock. I have only had two feel the need to say it. and bolth didn't. have my back.Far from it a freind , and a family member.I guess it may be a guilt think for some that feel the need to say it .I agree those that got yer back never needs to be spoken you know.

I don’t do either. I have my own back and have since I was old enough to go out on my own. There is currently no one I would trust to have my back in a serious situation, and the good side to that is I won’t be disappointed when it counts. It makes me careful and diligent, and a few other things as well.
If you are lucky enough to have someone that you can truly count on then great, but many of those you think you can count on,......, well don't count too heavily on them. It is best to always be prepared to fend for yourself.
