TOTO Toilets
Watched a segment on Sunday Morning about Japanese toilet technology .
A toilet that automatically raises the seats as I walk into the bathroom seems just a little too eager for me. (Plus just what all that automation is going to do to me when I am in no position to run.)
I also wonder how it recognizes the difference between a man and a woman. Or how it can tell which configuration a man may need……… scary

Seen that as well! Their toilets $5,000. to $8,000 apiece!
They had a lot of options though!

I just remodeled the bathroom and installed a new American standard toilet that can flush 15 golf balls in one big woosh.
I need to make sure my 5 yo grandson doesn't seal it or he's going down too.lol

My cousin has one with a remote control and it flushes automatically without touch.
I have 3 TOTO toilets but aside from a controlled descend of the lid, so it doesn't just fall, they are normal toilets

I cannot begin to imagine what those guys in Japan are flushing that requires a 8000 dollar piece of equipment to handle it. Wow! They must be putting a little too much cheese on their sushi.

On comment in the story was about the TOTO electronic control panels. Some are so complex it's difficult to figure out which button does what. Beats me why any toilet requires a button to do anything other than flush it.

We had our current house built, I altered the floor plans to accommodate standard bidet fixtures in the baths of the two largest bedrooms. At the time, the electric all-in-one motorized toilet/butt-washer/dryer was the rage but I stuck to my guns because I know standard plumbing done right can last for decades with no maintenance whatsoever.
10 years later, our Kohler bidets, Delta fixtures, and Kohler toilets are still going strong. The only part so far needing repair was a toilet handle which I was able to do myself for 9.99 ebay.
Pay once, buy once.

Does the rest of the world require low flush toilet fixtures?

The rest of the world doesn't seem to suffer from the "Great Water Shortage" that the United States suffers from. In Canada they still sell full flush toilets, just don't get caught smuggling the across the border! It used to be illegal to sell a used toilet in Ohio, and a hardware store/plumbing contractor in Columbus had a basement full of all the un broken toilets they had removed after WWII! The family retired and was selling the business, The first turn over was just for the "Gold Mine" of toilets in the basement. I had heard dollar amounts of 1.25 to 1.5 Million dollars just for the "Vintage" toilets (not one of which was "Low Flow")

I have a $350 Toto toilet that is better than any other brand I've ever had. It's just a plain, simple model that has the "dual" flush system and works perfectly ! It's the only brand I will ever buy from now on. They are worth every penny!

My brother made a road trip to Canada a few years back when he remodeled his condo. He had no issues.

Ah, to be young again...
so when I visit the TOTO Museum I could don an "excrement" hat and get flushed in a giant toilet.

Toto makes regular porcelain toilets like every other toilet manufacturer, and they make the fancy high-tech seats called “washlets” that replace regular toilet seats. Amazon sells them starting around $600 or so. They have different features, but they all have the basic wash features, air drying, and deodorizers that work like magic. The Japanese are smart - 70% of homes in Japan have a washlet, and they’re worth every penny. Yup, I have one in my house too. They have a little control box with different buttons; when you’re done with “your business” one button selects a solid stream of water, two other buttons allow aiming the stream of water, two other buttons allow you to adjust the temperature of the water, and two others control the power of the water. Or you can select a spray stream. It remembers the setting from the last time you used it. It takes no time at all to learn to use it. It also has a deodorizer that works like magic – you can’t stink up your bathroom when using one of these things. And they get you clean. The Japanese have the right idea; western bathroom hygiene hasn’t changed much from a monkey grabbing a fist full of leaves to finish things up. I guarantee anyone who uses a Toto washlet for a day or two will not want to go without it. I sound like an ad, I know, but they’re good. We westerners are a bit weird in that we generally refuse to acknowledge that maybe another society could have invented a better mouse trap for a basic need, but the Japanese did. Look them up Toto washlets at Amazon – you’ll see nothing but glowing reviews from every American owner.

After those years of one gallon flush toilets I'm just glad to have one that works.

too much power?
This is one of the old abandoned houses around this part of the country. Looks like when they flushed, the vacuum pulled the out house back on its heels a bit. Or maybe a reclining seat of some kind?
Peace,
Gordon
